Blogger Joe Albero Gains Access To Bank Of Delmar Safe

The Bank of Delmarva on Line Road in Downtown Delmar, Maryland recently moved but not completely. The Bank of Delmar recently completed their new Bank next to Rite Aide on Rt. 13. Their Downtown Drive-Thru will remain open until they feel everyone has become used to going to the new location. The photos above is the second location for this Bank since it was established in the 1800's and the last photo was the very first location, which is now a Barber Shop. I'm told their original safe is still hidden within the Barber Shop but not many people know where it is and it hasn't been used in in more than 50 years.

When I came upon the move I was instantly interested in the building but I'm told the Town of Delmar is actually interested in purchasing the building. I'm sure they're considering a new City Hall or perhaps a new Police department, which they desperately need. The current Police Department doesn't even have a Cell in it. They actually hand cuff prisoners to a bench.

Anyhow, while I was touring the inside of the building I came to learn that it's actually 3 buildings in one. The Safe was custom manufactured in the early 1920's and is quite a sight to see, especially the door. Oh well, onward and upward as they say. I could see a pretty cool jail cell where the safe now sits.

Are the Bank of Delmar and the Bank of Delmarva one and the same?

With the exception of the asphalt tile and the light fixture, the vault in the M&T Bank branch in Snow Hill is an exact copy of the of that one.

Joe, the safe in the barber shop is not hidden. You should have walked in there and taken a look.

Since the late 1970's the bank has grown alot. Houses were knocked down on E.East St. to make a parking lot, and as you say, there were originally three seperate buildings on State St(we don't call it line road in town).

Do you have to get on the highway to get to the bank or is there a back entrance?

Obviously never attended the town meetings when the new branch for Bank of Delmarva was being approved.

Thanks to a couple of members on the Joint Council and in P&Z, yes there is a back entrance as well.

The police department is supposed to build a new building in the field off of route 13 near NAPA and the fruit stand. The building is supposed to be dubbed a public service building and combine with the fire department so that it may have a sub station serving the new communities to be built in that area and the busy accident prone intersection just to its south.

um no thats not entirely true.
the new public safety building is to be located on foskey ln, not with the fire dept either - they want to be near the tiger mart.

How many times can Mike Lewis bench press that safe? My bet is at least two times!

All kidding aside that's a beautiful piece of work and bet it's literally worth it's weight in gold.

You don't know what you are talking about.
The town purchased land on Foskey Lane for the Public Service Facility.
They are not doing a joint building with the fire dept. because the FD wants their additional location to be further South.
Do your homework next time and get it right.

That is the Humphrey's Property of which the portion along Stage Road "may" become a car lot and the rest "may" become Delmar Gateway Shopping Center.
