Mayor Barrie Tilghman, Chief Webster & Gary Comegys NEED TO GO!

Last Monday night Mr. Trader stood in front of the City Council discussing the $1,900,000.00 EPA Facility/Building. We have provided the audio from that meeting so you can clearly get an idea as to where I'm going with this Post.

Mr. Trader NP EPA.mp3

As you can clearly see from the photos I've provided above, the EPA is going to be PISSED OFF! Not only is the location wide open and not secure, vandals have broken open the door and stripped the facility of every wire and valuable piece of metal inside and out of this building. NO ONE NOTICED except Salisbury News! One of the key factors here is the fact that NOTHING has been working here for months. As you can see from the chains and security, they haven't been secure for God knows how long.

Now here's what I've been told. Last Monday night was the second time Mr. Trader has confronted the City about this facility on Lake Street and they have yet to get back with him on it. I've been told that the property owners want to donate the property to the City but one has to ask what the liability would be on the taxpayers? It was claimed years ago that a alleged 12,000 gallons of oil leaked into the ground and 4,000 gallons made it into the River. So IF the City were to accept this offer, YOU would be liable for cleaning it up and that's not cheap.

Now I have a lot of friends of mine who own properties with the same kind of conditions and I'm told there are new processes available today to clean it up that are much simpler to do and far less expensive as it was in years past. However, no matter what anyone says, it won't be inexpensive to do. I'm confident the Mayor and Comegys are chomping at the bit on another free piece of property on the North Prong.

One of the other main issues I saw on this property was the DANGER to anyone, (especially children) where someone can be harmed or even killed instantly. If someone walks that property at night, there are wide open tanks to fall into but even worse, one of the pictures I have provided has overgrown grass but you can see a hole there. The man hole cover was stolen, leaving it wide open for anyone to fall into day or night. I'm glad I walked this property with someone who was familiar with the surroundings because I swear to you, there's a very strong chance I would have fallen right in.

When I arrived at the property on Lake Street, there was no, "No Trespassing" signs and the one gate was wide open. The second gate, (photo above) has a lock and chain on it but you can clearly see how the cut the latch so you can take it off instantly, yet the Police wouldn't notice it from the road as it looks secure.

One thing I can assure you of this morning is that the Mayor and Chief of Police are reading this article and sending people to this location right away. However, before they arive I'd almost bet that WBOC, WMDT and te Daily Times will get down there right away to get some of their own shots of the vandalism. One way or the other, this property will have a ton of attention as this is not only a slap in the face of Mr. Trader, it's a slap in the face to ALL Maryland Taxpayers.

The paragraph below is a direct statement from the EPA on this property.

"The Maryland Department of the Environment and the City of Salisbury recently praised the cleanup efforts and the improvement of the shoreline near the Dale Enterprise site in Salisbury, Maryland. Along the shoreline of the Wicomico River and near the site, EPA installed a new bulkhead that will contain and capture leaching oil from the ground due to years of onsite spills. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to build an oil/water treatment system for the site."

GO HERE to see the actual article from the EPA. The Salisbury information is on Page 3.

Joe, is this an abandonned building, or is this building supposed to be functioning?????

joe albero said...

Yes, the facility should be operating. Inside the building is a very special oil/water seperator tank that should be operatio0nal 24/7. If you listened to Mr. Trader's MP3 we added you'd hear how it cost te taxpayers $1,900,000.00 to install.

Isn't this near the police station? How could they have missed this while patrolling. I'm pretty sure I know which lot this is on and the gate has been open for quite some time now. I never knew there was something so important on that lot. I guess you learn something new every day.

THIS is the kind of thing that Joe does best. Keep 'em on their toes, Joe....there is no one else who will.

Ke up the excellent reporting Joe. This is the type of info we all need when we go into the voting booth.

The Mare should be arrested for this. Again, the good folks of Salisbury and the county need to be aware of how this wonderful city that we live in or go to on a daiy basis, has absolutely been run into the ground. We need leadership in all aspects of this city. We need people that live in the city, who are honest and care about Salisbury. They need to have the leadership skills to find the right folks to run the departments.

People comng from NY o Balto do not care about Salisbury. They are here because they are getting close to retirment and are trying to build up their portfolio. They are just putting in time.

Salisbury also doesn't need anyone on the good ole boy network. We have seen how this leads to corruption.

If you care about this city, vote to remove anyone that will keep the same old, same old. The good ole boys and girls will keep Joe busy with the things like this post.

Joe
This is nothing new. There are several areas in that vacinity which are on the superfund list for clean up. The dangers are real and years on neglect are coming back to haunt the City. They have known about this area and have done nothing to fix it. They didn't make the mess, but have failed to make the responsible parties clean it up. Now the cost will be passed on to the taxpayer at either the Stae or City level.

Several years back there was a major leak from this facility. A faulty valve had leaked hundreds of gallons of used oil into the river and on the land. It was occupied by a fly by night operator who could care less. The MDE spent more than a week on sight cleaning the mess.

I feel sorry for the firemen who work at the new station. When I heard they had chose to build on that site I was in shock. Why the City would choose to build anything on that site is beyond me. The products that leach into the ground are spread throughout the entire neighborhood. It doesn't just stay on that property. The existing properties have no choice but to stay or take a huge loss.

I know for a fact that soil samples were taken about ten years ago that revealed contamination on the site where the new firehouse sits. Did the contamination just go away ? The City should begin clean up efforts TODAY and prevent further damage to the health and property of the neighborhood residents.

You can thank Gordy for that firehouse being built where it is. He has connections with MDE and with the Mayor. They can sell ice to the eskimos. That land didn't suddenly get better since the last soil sample. Bill Higins had the good sense not to build there. The Mayor agreed with him back then. Of all the places to build, this was not it. Why doesn't Gordy or See build their house near there ?

MEMO

From: Chief David See

Subject: Contaminated Soil Around Firestation 16

TO: All Personnel

All personnel are hereby directed to cease any communication in regard to the known contamination of the soil around and on the property of Fire Station 16. Anyone found guilty of such verbal content will be terminated immediately. Furthermore, any personnel found to be communicating with Joe Albero will be terminated immediately. I am retiring in a few months and wont have to deal with it so quit your bitching. Why ? Because I'm the damn far chief and I said so.

You gotta love those firemen. At least they still have a sense of humor after all the crap they have to deal with.

How is this the City's fault -- that source you quote makes it sound like an EPA project --

"Along the shoreline of
the Wicomico River and near the
site, EPA installed a new bulkhead
that will contain and capture
leaching oil from the ground due
to years of onsite spills. The U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers plans to

anonymous 11:34,

Or should I say Barie Tilghman?

Let's start off with this. Mr. Trader has asked the Mayor and Council questions about this facility two times and hasn't received a response.

That being said, they would have checked this out and found the facility vandalized.

Secondly, the gate was wide open and not secure for quite some time. This is NOT a lot in which you would let anyone travel through, hence the photos of just some of the danger areas.

This didn't hapen overnight. People had to be coming and going and again it went un noticed. Perhaps we should check each and every property owned by the City, (like Mr. Trader had suggested in the past) to see the condition of every one of them. He had stated that the City has a team of Engineers that aren't being used and instead the City hires Engineers by outsourcing them instead. Mr. Trader asked time and time again if they have inspected these properties and while all this attention is going on within the North Prong, one would think this would have been noticed.

Finaly, the property owner is trying to GIVE the property to the City. Don't tel me no one has been on location to see the condition. You better believe I blame all THREE people mentioned in this article and so should YOU.

Maybe I should start walking over there and if I "slip" into one of the pitfalls I could own the city . lol Or the truth would be I would be charged for tresspassing. But let a theif get hurt entering your home and "POW" they own you.

Anonymous said...

Doesn't Bubba Comegys drive past going between the SHA office and either his home or the Parsons Cemetery?

Anonymous said...

Who owns it now?

I have performed electrical wiring all my life as a profession.

I can tell you first hand, this facility is an abomination to the professional standards provided by NEC, BOCCA, SSBC, UBC, and all others. In fact, I'm saving these photographs for the next code session I'm going to be teaching.

Where is this place located?

So you had Mr. Trader do your dirty work? If no one noticed but you, you must have had him address it to the City. Do your own dirty work Albero!

I just notice the middle picture with the lock and gate. The chain is just latched onto what is now a hook. Pathetic.

anonymous 1:58,

Have I upset someone, Barrie?

1:58. 140 DAYS AND COUNTING.

This site is not owned by the City, but they do have an obligation to the citizens around it. They should contact whoever needed to get it cleaned up. The longer it sits there, the worse it gets. The Mayor cannot ignore the facts. Thanks to SBYNEWS for bringing this to light.

It gets a little old to hear every day about something like this. Salisbury is falling apart and our Goverment seems to be asleep at the helm. I know they can't find everything, but Mr. Trader has told them twice. There is no excuse. Do something about it.

Anonymous said...

Let's ove it to Parsons Cemetery in Bubba's state owned vehicle.

Anonymous said...

Can this be brought up at the City Council meetings by requesting it be put on the agenda. These pictures are worth a thousand words. Where on earth has the accountability gone in our country?

Anonymous said...

The funny part is the city will fine the hell out of you if your grass get too high and if you don't bring your trash can in on time.

Anonymous said...

INTERESTING, you own a rental house, the tenant leaves some crap outside and the Neighborhood Housing Services is all over your ASS! to clean the crap up. Maybe we need to move some people over there to live and the City will get on the owners ASS to clean this Shit Hole up. Just a thought, maybe call Tom Stephenson and tell him you saw people living there, don't tell him it was the homeless though.
