Fruitland Police Officer Arrested For Theft

A 20 Year Veteran of the Fruitland Police Department Sheila Johnson was arrested yesterday by the WCSO for theft. Sheila allegedly went out to purchase gifts for Fruitland's "Adopt A Family" program. She was given cash to purchase items from K-Mart and other local stores. When she went into K-Mart she put $140.00 worth of items up to be purchased and allegedly, rather than paying for the items she asked K-Mart to put them on the City of Fruitland Account.

K-Mart contacted the FPD in which they immediately started an investigation and found that when the Officer returned with the toys and receipts, everything seemed to be fine. However, K-Mart claims the items were never paid for, meaning the Officer was allegedly short the $140.00.

To make things worse, the FPD reviewed the video and audio from K-Mart and could clearly see the items were allegedly not paid for, yet the Officer is in complete denial. She was arrested by the WCSO and processed yesterday. A Press Release has not come forth as of this time but after this gets out I'm confident one will follow shortly after.

Im not trying to make excuses for this kind of behavior, but are we under-paying our police officers to the point where this could happen? On the other hand if your going to make a stupid choice like that and throw 20 years of work, your pention, your reputation down the drain, something else must be in play here. Thats "stinkin thinkin" there.

Anonymous said...

Sooo... The K-Mart clerk did NOT charge the items to the City?? And, I guess the cash was not returned to the person who gave it to her? How did she get out of the store if the clerk didn't get paid?

Anonymous said...

She is not a 20 year veteran of the Fruitland Police force. She has only been with them for about a year.

Anonymous said...

It says that she came back with the toys and receipts. How could she have a receipt if it was not paid for?

Sounds like someone should also be investigating K-Mart? Where did the money go and how did she get out of the store? Most of the clerks are seasonal and are only there for the season. They wouldn't have much to lose. Sounds fishy!!!!

She has a lot of years with different police depts.Only
been at the Fruitland dept. for a
short period of time.Watch this
one very close.

Anon1:30 - Com'on... it has nothing to do with the pay (that someone agreed to when accepting the position )

Simply put... it was a chance for free money.

Anonymous said...

isn't she a corporal?

Anonymous said...

She shopped at K-Mart because she thought they were slouches and she could get away with it. Wal Mart is just down the street. Hmmm???

Anonymous said...

now that is funny

Anonymous said...

She has not been with the City very long, but already has used more sick time,(advanced to her) than most any one employee has ever accrued. She knows how to play the system, that all she has done since she has been there.

Anonymous said...

Wait, if she said to charge it, they called and she assumed it was approved, then how did she steel, seems there are far more details forthcoming. lets get more before convicting her

This is not going to look good on a resume.

Because if she charged it it the Fruitland account she should have returned the 140.00 in cash she was advanced. That was not her money.

Great point Jim, you beat me to the punch. Because Salisbury News exposed this before anyone else, some people like to aways come back on the defensive in the hopes of belittling our Posts. That's OK because we all know who the real #1 News Source on Delmarva is. You'll see it on the #2 News Source at 6:00 PM, perhaps word for word from our Post.

The question is did the Kmart worker get fire. It sound to me that the Kmart work knew who the police officer was. If not then why would she let her walk out with $140.00.If I was a Kmart worker I would had at least ask my manager.

Anonymous said...

sound like a inside job between kmart worker and police officer

Anonymous said...

5:36 you sound like the Officer mentioned in this article making excuses, I could be wrong. as for the other comment, if a Police Officer in uniform comes up to me and asks to charge something and they have done so in the past, I'm going to believe the officer. I'm glad she was arrested. I heard the worked at the SPD and was let go and UMES. I wonder what they're missing.

Anonymous said...

Give em some phsycology Joe, they need it.

Anonymous said...

She worked for SPD, UMES, Crisfield, and Fruitland, not her first time being charged with something either. I believe she was charged with assaulting a student while working as a SRO.

Anonymous said...

steal is the proper spelling of the word

I think she used to work at UMES.

Kmart management are a bunch of a$$holes. They are most likey the ones that messed up. If something is not paid for, then you do you get a receipt?

Question:

K-Mart is in the City of Salisbury and the Salisbury PD has full jurisdiction so why was this case handled by the WCSO?

Don't get me wrong, I think this was a good move to solve any criminal case in the County. LMAO

Anonymous said...

Isn't it great how things work out...The corrupt ones are almost out the door, now with Truitt almost gone and Sheila Johnson on her way out. Better days are ahead for FPD.

Anonymous said...

It's a bad year for officers in this county.I'm glad they didn't sweep it under the rug.

Anonymous said...

So many levels of thinking, time consuming

Anonymous said...

And just who was responsible for hiring this moron to the FPD? Another moron perhaps?

Anonymous said...

Its all economics, I was thinkin why dont they screen these people better, you know why, economics. Its just a matter time before the tumblers crush us. Were so out of sink as a species with everything, umm.

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:22 here is your anwswer. Captain Bradley (FPD) left SPD as a Captain on bad terms after a failed sexual harrassment battle with Webster. She and FPD would not ask Webster and his department to assist. They went to a neutral department (WCSO) where Sheila has never worked. Secondly Sheila has been a huge POS since day one. She was given every cushy job at SPD and PROTECTED by Bradley but still continued to F*** up but was eventually forced out. She still could not hack it at Crisfield or UMES which are not the hardest places to work. So her good old budy hired her back at Fruitland she was there a month before going on sick leave for months, got a senior Corporal Taylor demoted for critisizing Sheila's poor performance on a evaluation and now the truth shows itself again. Thats most of the scoop. THE BIG QUESTION IS WHERE WILL SHEILA END UP NEXT WCDC?

Anonymous said...

If I had to guess, I would say the Salisbury Police Department didn't investigate this because she was once a police officer there and left on bad terms. They already investigated her and probably didn't want to seem biased if she were found guilty of this too.

Anonymous said...

Great work Joe. It's unfortunate for Fruitland Police but I think Chief Phillips is doing a great job. I guess the rest of the story will be told when she has her day in court.

Pocomoke PD is hiring and it sounds like this lady is a perfect fir for Boss Hogg and his crew.

7:36 you are wrong on so many levels. Get a life. Its not about Bradley or Taylor or other agencies. I guess you would say the same about the judgement concerning SPD's Tracy Sparpagliona and Sheriff's Jason Chance. If Johnson was such a friend to everyone then why would she be charged? They would have kept it quiet. You are not as intelligent as you think you are, idiot.

Anonymous said...

She did not leave on bad terms at any agency. For your information, the rumor mill does not qualify as a realiable source. If that were the case, none of you SOBs would work anywhere. Oh those darned glass houses.

Anonymous said...

8:07 - Sorry, she did leave on bad terms from everywhere she has worked, this is a fact - no rumor mill. FPD is better off without her. This is very unfortunate, but the dept will benefit from her departure.

Anonymous said...

So if the Sheriff's Office charged for something that happened in the city, the Fruitland Police Department must have known first.Right? So who cracked this case? Must be the new Detective Howard Taylor. Good work.

Anonymous said...

This so called officer came to Crisfield from UMES where she was brought on by her...ummmm....shall we say supervisor, Clarence Bell. The word was she was about to get the pinky slip at UMES and Bell saved her backside and hired her in Crisfield.

This isn't surprising at all.

Anonymous said...

If she is such a bad cop, why does everyone hire her?

Anonymous said...

Who cares, they are all crooked. This should be expected.

Sheila has been a liability at every agency where she's been employed, (notice I did not say work, because she never did much of that). I was an officer at SPD when she barely made it through the police academy. Her field training officer refused to sign off on her because of her poor performance. She should have been fired from Crisfield P.D, but they allowed her to resign because she threatoned to sue the Chief for sexual harassment. When she finally is fired, it will be no great loss to the Law Enforcement community. It's just a shame she's been allowed to make the rest of us look bad for so long.

Anonymous said...

Observation:

You can take any decent police officer's name and put it in the Maryland Judiciary Case Search and you will come up with numerous court cases they have been involved in.

Now on the flipside if you put this so called police officers name in you will come up with no police case involving her, none, zilch, nada. If she has been on the job for 20 years WTF has she been doing on while on the clock. The only case listed is her criminal charges? Who was involved in investigating her work history? They should be fired with her as well.

Anonymous said...

7:36 you sound much like one of demoted George Truitt's thugs or even the defeated Mark's gang members or even better "Ralph" who can't hold a job or pay rent.

This isn't the first time someone in uniform has done something bad and it sure won't be the last time.

Fruitland did the right thing by calling an outside source. Yet no matter what Fruitland does it's never right, is it? I'm proud to be a Fruitland resident and proud of those who protect our streets.

The sad part of all of this is how those who donated money and gifts will view it in the future. The families who are on the receiving end of these gifts would have nothing if it weren't for those who donated. I for one have donated in the past and will continue in the future.

10:29 PM

Hey Goofball 10:29 PM,

What part of 9:59's post said she worked at the FPD for 20 yrs! Can't you read you big dummy? Why the capitals? You must be a product of the Wicomico County School System, LMAO!!

Anonymous said...

Ever wonder why she has been traded to every police force for 20 years. SHe knows how to play the system. The Fruitland dept would never have called in an investigation if the money had been returned. I never saw where Kmart called to get approved. THis is something that close county aganecies can do. Now she thought she could get away with pretending to work all these years and now she is caught stealing.

Chimera said...

Wow!Was she one of the officers in Crisfield who appealed their dismissals a few years ago?

Anonymous said...

Is George Truitt still part of the FPD ? What did he do to get in trouble ?

Anonymous said...

No, she was at CPD and left after that.

8:02 PM

Ok anon 8:02, Obviously you are an idiot. Spagrlione is a pos I said that when he was hired. Jason was a good deputy who made a mistake that he has been punished for. Shelia was a pos and incompetent from the begining. She was charged becuase there is a new Chief at Fruitland, and he came from MSP with no connections to any of them and he is honest. You want me to clarify some more so here you go IDIOT. I worked with Sheila Johnson "Griffin then" for ten years in CID at SPD. She was taken off of the road after freezing up and almost getting killed by a suspect. She racked her Glock nine times while telling the guy to freeze. Note she never fired she just kept racking fully charged rounds onto the ground. She was saved by other competent responding officers. After that she was placed in cid for her own safety and was assigned all of the follow up cases dealing with juveniles. So SPD cleared alot of cases with bs juvenile suspects, that would not tie up other detectives and officers. Sheila stayed busy and was not in danager. She then got into trouble and was asked to leave. I didnt work at UMES OR Crisfield. But we all know how corrupt those places were. Apparently she could not make it. I do know that she was arrested for striking a juvenile who got mouthy with her "why because she knew she could not handle herself so she overacted." She was told to resign and the charges would go away. She left with no charges and not being fired. Her buddy Captain Bradley "who was her main supporter at SPD". hired her at FPD. This is the ONLY reason she was hired by FPD. FPD is full of competent and good officers. Not like the past. The last of the incompetent officers "Truit" is on his way out. Bradley is a competent smart officer, but she has a soft spot for Sheila. Hopefully with the new Chief this problem will go away and Fruitland PD will continue to flourish. So who is the idiot now, dumb ass I worked with Sheila so I know first hand that she is not cut out to be a police officer.

Anonymous said...

The fact is this: She subversively stole money that was raised to buy gifts for children. She was given the chance to come clean and would not. What else is there? She deserves what she got.

Well Jackson and Johnson, that only leaves one more, that went from Sargent to Captain under Jackson so fast it made our head spin.I like Chief Phillips and although he was handed a huge pile of Jackson`s leftover crap is trying to get the respect back that FPD should have. There are a lot of good officers there, frankly I`m amazed we were able to keep as many as we did.

WOW! Is there one non- corrupt agency in this county? damn.
