CAN GANNETT GET ANYTHING RIGHT?

The Gannett website contains a discussion of the Daily Times that --
unbelievably -- is posted on it for the purpose of attracting new employees.

Let's hope that they don't mail their application to the Salisbury address
given: 115 E. Carroll Street. The Daily Times has vacated that property, which
Gannett sold to the hospital a couple weeks ago, but its address and a picture
of the building there still appear on Gannett's website as the location of the
Daily Times.

And under the heading "About Salisbury" it lists the population as 163,180.
Most significantly, it states there are 275 employees at the Daily Times, but
there are now less than that after what happened earlier this year and again
yesterday.

Here's the link to that webpage:

And here's a link to an interesting aspect of the workforce reduction plan
adopted by Gannett last summer, which was apparently leaked by the top
management at the Daily Times:

Comments that bear repeating (from yesterday):

To the person who said this:

"and a city newspaper the doesn't partcipate in charcater assassination"

Bullsh*t. That newspaper reprinted every lie Barrie Tilghman said about Tim Spies. The have printed editorials slamming Debbie Campbell as not playing nice with others when Debbie Campbell functions just FINE with others outside of the bullsh*t inner sanctum of the Tilghman administration. That newspaper went with online comments to compete with those NASTY blogs...and now has a commenter who refers to councilwomen as C's and B's while spreading lies about them.

I do not delight in ANY one losing a job. And I appreciate the defense of Joe's blog. But let's not artificially elevate what the Daily Times is as a newspaper.

It's terrible and getting worse.

With Salisbury's lousy TV local news reporting, the Daily Times has squandered a golden opportunity by becoming a house organ for Barrie Tilghman and Rick Pollitt.

How has this latest round of firings helped Gannett's stock price?

Wow, buy some now!

Gannett shares soared yesterday - up 38 cents (2.2%) to $8.87. That's over 10% more than the recent all-time low of $8 per share.
And if you buy a big block, the Daily Times is free.

I'll bet the post office can find them. On the stock prices, still higher than NY Times and the other bog boys.
