Joe,
I was returning to the "East Side" after having lunch up north early this afternoon. I traveled 13 South to 50 West and got to N. Division Street when I saw that the draw bridge was up. I turned right and went to the intersection of Isabella and N. Division. Traffic was backed up in all four directions at the four way stop. When I was finally able to get to the three way stop at Mill Street, there was traffic also backed up in all directions. The traffic on W. Isabella Street was backed up from the light at Lake Street. There are just two lanes, and no shoulders. My question is...... HOW IN THE HELL COULD A FIRETRUCK OR ANY EMERGENCY VEHICLE GET TO THE EAST SIDE OF TOWN IF THEY ARE NEEDED? Maybe the Mare or the "wannabe" Mare can answer my question.

Dispatch the required emergence equipment from the two fire houses on the east side of the Wicomico river at Naylor Street and Beaglin Park Road.
Contrary to the believes of the creator and administrator of this blog, I always thought the primary reason why the fire house was built on Cypress Street was to better serve the parts of Salisbury west of the Wicomico river.

farm boy, you do know that there are two (2) other stations in Salisbry Fire Department.
They would respond same as if the station on Cypress Street was already out on a call.
Station 16 is not the one & only station in the world.

You couldn't be more right; there are 2 other fire departments on the east side of the bridge. Finally the city has one on the west side of the bridge (closer than having Hebron respond)!!!!
I have always stated this was a drastic mistake. The new Fire Dept Hgts was not centrally located. It should have been located in the center of the population and a smaller Station located on the Westside. Who ever planned this is not familiar with procedure of quick response. With that said, how come nobody is talking about the EMS [ambulance] services. This concern is a life and death matter most of the time. Why does the ambulances always ride around? Does this not signal poor planning? What is the added cost for these ride arounds? Does this not create a major concern for the Publics access to ambulance service? With this type of leadership how can the City keep asking the County for financial help for Fire / EMS services when they have alienated 2/3 of the County with a quick response EMS.
It doesn't matter if Station 16 was in the middle of the river, Hebron will be on the scene before them anyway.
they are called "sirens". They make people get out of the way. Did you try it?
