Muir Boda Sends Salisbury News His Goals For Running For City Council

So here are my positions on some of the major issues that face our city:

North Prong Revitalization Plan: I am against the plan put forward by the
group of people that didn’t show up. No doubt the North Prong area is not the
prettiest thing to look at, we all know that. This Strategic Revitalization Plan
was simply another waste of money that we sent across the bay to Baltimore. Do
we not have qualified people here in Salisbury who could do this work? I feel it
needs to be zoned light industrial and we should respect the rights of those
businesses to exist that are there. I am still befuddled as to why there is a
Marina in the plans. With all the controversy over the Bridge, that must have
private joke by Gary and the Mayor.

Unfinished Business: 1.) We need to figure out the deal with downtown. 2.)
We need a maintenance plan that is effective and stays on top bad streets and
sidewalks. We shouldn’t wait until they are crumbling. 3.) Once this lawsuit is
over on the Old Mall lot, it needs to be dealt with, done, finished. No more
lawsuits, let’s get it finished.

Fiscal Responsibility: The amount of debt this city is carrying needs to be
the number one fiscal priority, right now! We have no business carrying that
much debt. People often brag about their big degrees, all the committees and
organizations they belong to and we still end up with large amounts of debt,
wasteful spending, and poor organizational skills. We keep electing these people
and hiring them into these positions and we keep getting the same old thing.
Also, what is John Pick doing? As the city administrator, how could he let this
get out of control.

We need to immediately freeze all discretionary spending. We need all to look
at the budget and there may have to be some sacred cows sacrificed. The other
thing I don’t understand is what antiquated system are running that we can’t
look at our figures when we want? At Wal-Mart we get monthly reports showing us
a breakdown on everything. We get weekly reports showing us where need to focus.
Home Office can look at anything at anytime. I don’t understand why it takes so
long to get answers.

Crime: Well, I haven’t figured what Gary means by community policing. I am
not sure what the purpose is of the Crime Task Force or what effect it has had
on crime. Hookers are still flagging down johns on 13, drugs are being dealt in
various hot spots, vandalism is getting bad, and the gang situation is a growing
concern of citizens.

1.) I believe our crime situation reflects a national problem. Authority
needs to be returned to the classroom, there is no respect for teachers. Parents
also need to take responsibility for raising their children, so many parents
think their kids do no wrong. I was always I told growing up if you get in
trouble at school, you’ll get when you get home.

2.) Lack of involvement of Churches and civic organizations is a much needed
element. We need community leaders to step up and daily fight for the hearts and
minds of our children. Developing a strong Neighborhood watch system in all
neighborhoods.

3.) Aggressive patrols and investigation. Staffing patrols much heavier at
times of higher crime periods. Thinking like a business would - you want to
schedule the people and the best at peak business times.

Empowering our investigation units to break up gangs and drug dealing
organizations. No doubt the drug issue is a national issue because of the failed
policies of the War on Drugs, which has only resulted in more drugs and more
crime. We worry about the political correctness with doing this but what choice
do we have? We need leaders from every community in this city to stand up cry
for change in our anti-crime policies.

4.) Before we can appropriate additional money for hiring more police
officers, we need to institute a detailed, serious crime policy with the
staffing we have. We need long range planning that is clear and concise to the
community. This planning must include the City Government, County Government,
MSP, local Churches, civic organizations and citizens. A unified front against
criminal elements must be clear and the line must be drawn.

Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility: Proactive reactions to
serious environmental problems and potential issues require immediate attention.
We are called to be Good Stewards of all that has been entrusted to us.

Encourage and promote recycling efforts to all citizens. Educate citizens on
location of all Recycling Stations.

These are some of my position on several of the issues we face. A little
about me. I have worked for Wal-Mart for a total of 15+ years. I have held
management positions, worked in Loss Prevention, and now I currently work in the
Connection Center where we sell cell phone services. I am the Store
Sustainability Captain, where we worked to get a Recycling Center in the parking
lot.

I attend Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Salisbury. There I am a leader/teacher
in the church’s student ministry that averages over 150 students a week. I am a
member of the Board of Advisors for the Java Hut Cafe. Also, I am involved in
HALO Ministries, where we serve the homeless on the streets among other
services to the homeless and near homeless.

I know I don’t circulate in certain social circles. I understand Debbie has
more experience and connections than I have. I am an unknown to most in
Salisbury, however many will remember my Grandfather, Rev. Alex Boda, who was
the Pastor at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Salisbury. My father, John
Boda, also ministered at Sharptown and Mount Vernon - below Princess Anne.

I appreciate your time and would like to get together with you at some point.
I am focusing right now on organizing my core volunteers and raising funds. I
have website up that I am updating several times a week www.boda4salisbury.com .
After the first of the year I will begin campaigning aggressively.

Keep up the good work Joe.

Sincerely,

Muir W. Boda

I want to thank Mr. Boda for making contact with Salisbury News and sharing his vision. It's refreshing to see others looking out for the City's best interests, rather than making excuses for what we already have and then asing the Citizens to do their job for them. He's certainly earned my respect.

If you help Wal-mart drive this country into the ground then your part of the problem not part of any solution. Go back to your corporate devil bosses.

This is a leader? This sounds like it was written by someone running for student class president.

His thread is way too long. All of that could have been condensed into a paragraph or two. Don't know anybody that has the time to spend reading long disertations about whats wrong around here. Need to do some editing here, big time! However, I do agree with what he has said.

I agree with him on some matters -- especially the North Prong nonsense -- but urge him to withdraw as a candidate. We have an excellent person in that council seat, who deserves to be reelected, and Mr. Boda needs to get involved in the City's policical affairs.

Where has he been for the past three years he has been a City resident, after living in the area for four years before that.

And if he feels that way about the North Prong, why hasn't he spoken at the meetings, even during the public comment.

all his ideas are the same as mrs campbells..ill stick with her since we know she is truly on our side

Wow - the literacy level of this author is waaay low. Too many sentence fragments, run-ons, etc. to be taken seriously as a political candidate.

Mr. Boda:

By the first of the year, the North Prong could be a "DUNN DEAL" so why didn't you say something at the meeting this week?

Consider spending your time in this election working to keep Comegys out of the mayor's office, and trying to get Debbie Campbell (with whom you seem to agree on major matters) reelected, then run for Comegys' and other seats on the Council in the following city election?

anonymous 12:16, so what. Healthy debate is a GREAT thing. You're not even attempting that. And EXCUSE ME, but didn't you Idiots vote Comegys back into Office? Cut the crap and stick to the issues.

Is he a Louweasel foot-soldier?

Do we need a Christian Conservative on the council -- he's not for me.

Joe, here is something that I would like you to investigate.

Last week as I was driving down Eastern Shore Drive I noticed a contractor taking down all the small trees that were lining the street and grinding the stumps. I wondered what was going on so I thought they were running new water and sewer pipes.

Today as I was riding down Eastern Shore Drive I noticed there were new trees replacing the ones that were destroyed. Each of them were standing with supports and loaded with mulch.

I don't recall any problems with the trees they destroyed and they were small and certainly not overgrown.

As a taxpayer I would like to know why the city decided to replace perfectly fine trees and I would also like to know how much this outrage cost the citizens of Salisbury.

Joe, please ride down Eastern Shore Drive and get a picture of the new trees. You may even have a pic or two of the old trees in your collection from previous Christmas Parades. There was nothing wrong with the older trees and they were not overgrown. What the city has down is criminal.

Mr. Boda, you seem to share the same views as Debbie Campbell. No doubt she will get more votes as she has already proven herself as a fine representative of her constituents. My suggestion to you is to start going to City Coucil meetings (I've never seen you at one yet) and give the concerned citizens a chance to know you. Then run against Louise Smith or Gary Comegys in 2 years.

There is a HUGE issue when a candidate is barely literate.

Hey Anon 12:41
These new trees were arranged for and donated by an anonymous person through the hard work of Pete Cooper, our past public works director. I rode down Eastern Shore Drive this morning and thought they looked great and can't wait to see them in a few years. See the real answer is ASK and YOU WILL RECEIVE and now you know. By the way 12:41 maybe next time you will send Joe an e-mail instead of putting this in a totally unrelated post, unless you just want to see your handy work that's unrelated to post

Hey 4:17 PM,

I saw the trees last week and today as well. Like the poster I don't know why the city would waste so much time and money on that. The old trees which weren't really old looked great. These new trees looked great. By the way which Bozo are you from the city. I noticed you didn't sign your name either.

Anonymous said...

Wow. What a moron. YOU ARE NOT A LEADER. You certainly won't be elected as one. If by some failure of the vetting system you are, count on me working hard to ensure you serve no more than one term.

Anonymous said...

HEY 5:57
I have nothing to do with the city except pay taxes and run my business. I just thought you would want to know the truth about the trees, but its more than apparent that's not the way it is. Oh yeah my name is Mark.

"Muir Boda Sends Salisbury News His Goals For Running For City Council"

A potential Candidate for city office and criminal activity of the city stealing tax dollars. I think it is totally related.

By the way Barrie, go blow smoke up someone elses ass, your days are numbered as mare.

IMHO,
A lot of the comments here demonstrate why Salisbury pretty much deserves what it gets.

I no longer live there, but when I did ( Eastern Shore native, lived in Salisbury '95-04) it was obvious how things were going and most seemed happy with every encroachment.

Now years later, things seem worse. And if anyone who is not involved in a certain clique ( mostly criminal cliques) and dares have a thought about anything, he is ridiculed. Happy to see the level of maturity. Idiots picking on someone else's literacy? Hilarious.

Despite sharing some political affiliations, I don't agree with Muir Boda on everything. The main difference being that he appears to still have some hope for politics. I recognized the futility of electoral politics long ago.

Like everywhere else, Salisbury politics is run by a mob of dunces who offer the "choices" of 1a and 1b. Candidates who fit nicely into the one party system have a shot. If you have any actual ideas, you are outcast.

Yep, this is what we need. Another deadbeat on the City Council that refuses to pay his bills.

So if you are a real tax payer that runs a business in the city of Salisbury and you are happy with your taxes then sign your real name and the name of your business otherwise we will assume you are the mare herself.

If it was only a student in the Wicomico County School system, one of the worst in the state of Maryland.

Since an anonymous poster wishes to keep posting info about a judgment against me, I do feel it necessary to respond.

None of us are perfect. I make no excuses for my mistakes and that certainly was one. It taught me so much about being responsible for my actions. I learned some lessons from the pitfalls of predatory lending. I also learned if something sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true.

Sometimes you have to go through something to learn what responsibility and accountability really mean. I definitely have changed my personal financial practices.

It took me years to repair my credit. It taught me the importance of saving vs. deficit spending. It taught me how important it is to not live beyond my means.

I hope others can learn from my mistakes and avoid what I went through during that time period.

So the guy doesn't have perfect grammar (so what). At least he isn't talking a bunch of BS and double-speak like Comegy's. Everything Muir Boda say's is easy to understand and you never get the impression he is trying to pull a fast one with words (double-speak). Also I respect that he has defended himself on this blog.

Also, working for Wal-Mart or not working for Wal-Mart isn't going to change Wal-Mart. I respect that the guy has worked at a shi**y job for 15 years because it means he is probably hard working.
