The operative part of the attached manifesto is "Forcing the poultry industry to be accountable to the public for the waste it is currently dumping on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay."

Bull Crap !! What about the near 500,000 gallons of raw sewage the city of Salisbury dumped into the Wicomico river ?? This river flows into the Nanticoke which in turn flows into THE CHESAPEAKE BAY !!! Idiots. Everyone wants to blame the poultry industry. What about other municipalities,home owners with their herbicides ,pesticides and fertilizers as well as State Highway Adm.Where do think all that calcium chloride "road salt " goes when the rain washes it off the road ?? Let the poultry industry pull out of Del, Md, and Virginia and you'll end up with one HELL of a mess !!!!
What happened to the $35.00 Chesapeake Bay improvement TAX that all Maryland property owners were "assessed" in 2007 & 2008. Was it used for the Bay???
Bobby Kennedy will focus on the chicken growers alone. He will not focus on 'No Till' farmers, he will not focus on commercial fisherman that are allowed to dredge in the mud for hibernating crabs, he will not focus on the commercial fishermen that are allowed to clean every last one of the Menhadden out of the bay so that there is nothing for the rockfish and bluefish to eat. These tiny fish are used for fertilizer!
The list goes on and on. Our impact on this very fragile eco system that we call home is vast, and we all need to do something about it.
However, for Bobby Kennedy to focus on the Poultry Industry alone is wrong.
We need to all stop making so much trash. We need to tell the manufactures of the products we buy that we don't want all the stupid packaging. It is such a huge waste. Take your own bags to the store with you. Don't put your produce in individual bags.
Start a composte pile, and use it for fertilizer.
It is time to implement the things that we know to do, and do them.
I don't see anything about the enormous amount of waste the western shore is dumping into the bay. Go figure!

The Chesapeake bay watershed is a huge area including parts of Pa. that have huge cattle farms. Yes chickens do contribute, but to single out one industry is not right. Some major contributors to bay pollution are failing septic systems, logging, fertilizer overload, Excessive harvest of filter feeders (arsters okay oysters, and municiple discharge of wastewater thru the sewer system. Yes the road salts, the lawn fertilizers, the geese and ducks all add to the problem. The real problem is that it is not just one industry it is a combination of factors that make the situation bad. We as a society are the only ones that can fix the problem, keep septic systems in proper working order, make sure our waste water is treated, do not over fertilize our lawns. Small simple corrections made by EVERYONE will be a huge contribution.
The Poultry Industry may have some responsibility as well as many other industries not to mention GOLF COURSES which are generally right on the water. The western shore is also very responsible for the mess. Sure lets just run the rest of the farmers out of business as well as the Poultry plants. The largest economic industry on Delmarva. I am sure that will have no affect on the local workforce/Economy. IDIOTS!!!

I think it's a good thing for people to take responsibility for their actions. Let's face it, the chicken industry is a major contributor to the deterioration of the Chesapeake Bay and they need to be held accountable for it.
For far too long, the chicken industry has gotten away with defiling the Bay. Exhibit A: Salisbury.
