BLUE LIGHTS IN GOVERNMENT OFFICE BUILDING WINDOWS HONOR FALLEN POLICE OFFICERS

Wicomico County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr. and Salisbury Mayor Barrie P. Tilghman have ordered a single blue light candles placed in Government Office Building windows during the holiday season. These replaced the traditional white light candles. In a joint statement, they said, “Project Blue Light’ has grown steadily across America as a way of remembering departed law enforcement officers. It began in 1988, when the mother-in-law of a Philadelphia police officer killed in the line of duty told COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors) members that she would place a blue light in her window over the holidays in memory of her son-in-law.”

Pollitt and Tilghman added that, “The blue lights also honor those who serve us in law enforcement. In our terms of office, we have become acutely aware of the hazards of this dangerous profession. We should all have great appreciation for what they do for us.”

It is a job. Maybe we should pay them. Oh, wait a minute, we do pay them, don't we?
How about the fallen fast food service employees?
How about the fallen convenience store workers?
How about the fallen firemen?
Maybe we should place rainbows in the windows. That's it, lets tie yellow ribbons and place rainbows in our windows. It is getting hard to remember what all of the icons mean.

Confused.

Refused to be mind programmed.

This is showing respect, have some

What about a show honor for our service men and women who are in harms way most every day they are deployed? !

Okay, 8:09, if someone breaks into your house or threatens your life, or your house catches on fire with one of your children trapped inside, make sure you call a fast food service employee or a comvenience store worker for help. I'm sure they'll be happy to risk their lives and safety for you.

We show them respect by placing yellow ribbons around our trees!

These comments are exactly what is wrong with this world! Unbelievable lack of respect!! Is putting a candle in your window really that difficult! Regardless how they have fallen or what their job is! People put crosses on the side of the road when a loved one has died there, people where ribbons that symbolize a loved ones cancer! This is all the same idea...
8:09 its called respect!

anonymous 12:10, WHERE? Do tell everyone here where they can find these yellow ribbons on ANY trees in Wicomico County.

8:09 sounds like another satisfied customer. I love it! We aim to please. Merry Christmas and Thank You to all who appreciate what we do. And thanks to the fast food service employees (I'm sure they get assaulted on a regular basis) and to all those who have to talk suicidal individuals out of suicide at 4 in the morning, or to those who have to break the news that their wife & child have been killed by a drunk driver at Christmas time!
8:09...you are right...you are confused. Maybe I'll run into you some day and explain.

Joe,
It is not traditionally done here in Wicomico County! I do agree with you on that! However, it is common in most areas. It is not my responsibility to inform Wicomico County they have the right to do this, but if you ask me why I have a yellow ribbon tied around my tree, I will be happy to tell you why! And I bought the ribbon myself in a store! You have the name, you have the publicity and the ability to inform the public. If people will donate money to families of fallen soldiers I will be happy to supply the yellow ribbon in honor of fallen soldiers.

Do you wanna know where to buy a POW MIA flag as well, to honor those who are Prisoners of war, because people display those too!

Anon 809 I guess you are that kid who got picked on everyday at school. Maybe your daddy did not show you enough love. Maybe he showed you too much love hmmm. Maybe your Mom never told you she loved you enough. May you loved your mom a little too much. By your post I would think the toughest call you make all day is "Do you want cheese on that burger" God forbid you get a grease splash up. I could give you the purple french fry medal. The bronze I scrubbed the toilet star. As for all the yellow and camoflauge magnetic ribbons on cars and mail boxes. They are great but this Christmas lets tie real yellow ribbons on trees for our soldiers. As for you anon 809 you dont have to be worried about being mind programmed. I will tie a cheeseburger wrapper around a tree in my yard just for you. In case that fast food worker gets a paper cut or the headphone at the drive thru short out. In the future folks dont breast feed your child untill he is fifteen and we wont have people like this turd posting blogs

You are an idiot. Don't you realize the soldiers and policemen are protecting us from bad people? If it were up to you, these people would get no recognition at all. They don't do it for the money. They do it because they care about the rest of us. Maybe you don't realize they care, but they do! Many of them would perform the job even if they didn't get paid.

We shuld try to respect the people who defend our freedoms. You know, freedom isn't free. Someone had to fight for it. The police are out there puttin their life on the line for the rest of us. They deserve better than 8:09. He is stupid.

I don't think it is too much to ask that we put a blue light for the policemen, a red light for the firemen, and a green light for the soldiers. What do you think?

Maybe there ARE alot of icons and colors to represent the lost, a disease or a cause. But you know what, I'm sure the woman who lost her mother to breast cancer doesn't forget what her pink ribbon represents. I'm sure the mother who tied the yellow ribbon around her tree to show support for her son in Iraq doesn't get confused with the color scheme. And I know that I will always remember that a single blue light in the window reminds me to honor my fallen brothers and sisters in law enforcement. Anonymous 8:09, if its all too confusing for you, then I'm sure you've never lost a mother, father, brother or sister fighting for freedom- at home or abroad. Or had to battle a life-threatening disease, or risk their lives saving others. Even the rainbow ribbons represent a fight that is significant to those supporting it. So 8:09, either you are the most completely ungrateful, thoughtless American on this blog, or your family is filled with nothing more ambitious than fast food service employees and convenience store workers. Maybe you HAVE lost a loved one...... in a vat of fry oil.

How sad that everyone has to display colors so you can remember your family. Whoever wrote 8:09 obviously thinks the whole matter is frivilous. The most outrageous comment however, came from you. Because you thought it pertinent to criticize 8:09's comments in a mean-spirited manner. So then, what good are all of the colors?
