You have always given us publicity in the past and we wanted to give you the updated information. The Wicomico Yacht Club 2008 Christmas Boat Parade will be held Saturday evening November 29. The parade format has changed this year. The fleet will depart Wicomico Yacht Club at approximately 4:15PM and proceed up river toward Salisbury. We should arrive in downtown Salisbury about 6:30PM and immediately the fleet will move back down the river and arrive back at WYC around 8:30PM. The public may view the parades return to the club from WYC grounds. This will give spectators along the river two opportunities to view the display. For additional information please call 410-430-2282.

I just wanted to pop on here and Thank you, Joe, for telling us about this. We hadn't heard about it anywhere else, and my kids went nuts when they saw all of the boats.
and to 10:54- jealous much? I don't own a firetruck, but I love to see them decorated in holiday parades. I don't have a big house, but I love to see lots of lights on a really big house... exactly because I can't do it myself. It gives me a goal when my 2 year old son says he wants to ride on the big boats someday. I will work my fingers to the bone to do that for him if I have to. You see show-offs, I see the american dream. I see the possibilities and it gives me hope. And I need that hope this Christmas, since neither my wife or I have a job. So if I was like you I would say to you "quit flaunting in my face that you CAN pay your bills." learn to see the possibilies, not wallow in self pity.

This was a beautiful event we enjoyed it from our friends dock. To the rest of you, don't be jealous of those who have it and you don't there fortune came with a lot of sacrifice.

"There" fortune may have come with a lot of sacrifice, but a lot of it came from being born into families who already had plenty of money, too. We NEED fire trucks; we NEED homes. We don't NEED yachts. None us NEED a display of conspicuous consumption in these hard times.
And if I "was" you, I would learn the difference between "there," "their," and "they're" before you criticize other people's comments. Also learn when to say "was" and when to say "were". It will lend some credibility to your complaints.
No, I'm not jealous. I DO work hard every day, and I do my job well. I also know that my head could be the next on the chopping block, and I could be without a job.
Go back and read what I said about conspicuous consumption. THAT is what I object to. "Look at what I have! Look at what I have!" You're right; I see show-offs.

Christmas is supposed to be all about the birth of Jesus Christ.
What would Jesus do? Would he sail his expensive yacht down the river, all decked out with Christmas lights? Or would he sell the yacht and give the money to the poor?

I don't begrudge anyone anything they have worked to achieve or acquire. They worked for it, it's theirs to have or not. This is a part of the American dream. Some folks dream bigger than others. I appreciate the willingness of these boat owners going to the time, trouble and expense to decorate and display for the rest of us. Would you consider the Macy's parade conspicuous consumption? I have never read or been told that it is the responsibility of those that acquire wealth, must keep their wealth hidden from those of us that have not acquired such wealth. The spirit of christmas is not about the presents you can buy, its about the love you can share. These folks shared their love of the season with everyone, not just yacht club members.
Lighten up, enjoy the various displays of the season. Be thankful for what you have, no matter how much or how little. If that doesn't work for you, fear not, Obama will soon be redistributing the wealth.

Oh! Great! Obama will take away "Commodore" McCurdy's yacht and give it to me! Then he'll take Joe's Christmas lights and give them to me to decorate my new yacht! Then he'll take that stolen diesel from Ray Lewis and give it to me so I can navigate around the turds in the Wicomico River, and maybe Obama will even take away all the mayor's candy so I can throw it to the kids watching next year's Christmas Yacht Parade as their fathers teach them about the god of materialism! Oooh, ooh---I'll bet I can drive to the parade in my new car that Obama will take away from Chief Webster (or maybe that Comegys guy) and give to me! I can park it on the cracked floor of the fire house! And on the way to park my car, I can play "who zig-zags the fastest" on Isabella Street, because surely Obama will take away the Gordy TigerMart's gas and give it to me! Maybe he'll even give me a whole TigerMart! Maybe Obama will even take the Daily Times away from Gannett and give it to me...oh, never mind, who needs that rag, anyway? I just hope you will be able to see pictures of my new yacht here on sbynews---'cos Obama just might take Joe's camera away and give it to someone else.

the comment mentioned Jesus, not God. There is a diference. In fact, Jesus was the greatest socialist history has ever known. If Jesus were to appear in Washington DC today, would you vote for him to be president?

Me neither, I just get sick to my stomach each time someone brags about how great they are, especially when they got rich by working their employees at minimum wage and firing them when they need to down size to increase profits. Kind of like WBOC TV 16, always telling us how they are the best when they have forgot how to report the news. Way too much “canned – bought” crap like the useless “consumer reports” that doesn’t really reveal much. I don’t watch them any more. Anyone know if they had that fuel wasting helicopter shoot video of the boat parade?
My thanks this year is that God made sure Obama was elected over all the prayers of those that wanted McCain.

No, The value of reward for hard work. the value of getting back up and dusting yourself off after you fall down... as I have here recently.
Maybe my problem is that I just don't like Christmas, period. I call it "National Mandatory Give Everyone you Know A Present Day." (Not to mention, " The Season of Be Such A Frenzied Shopper That You Trample People to Death" and " The Season of National Let's Have a Fist Fight Over The Last Parking Space") Gifts are meaningless when you give them just because it happens to be a certain day on the calendar. If you want to give someone a gift, just do it! Do it because they want to, not because you "have" to. And the gift you give need not be something you have spent money on to further bloat the wallets of exploitive merchandisers.
Bryan, I am truly sorry that your family has fallen on hard times. I hate to tell you this, but the American Dream is dead. It simply isn't true any more that you can get what you want by working hard. I commend you for not giving up; I commend you for wanting to teach your son that there is value in had work, that there is value in picking yourself up and dusting yourself off ater you've fallen and getting back to work. Those are good, solid values missing in a lot of society today. But children also need to learn not to waste our dwindling natural resources, and they need to learn that one of the most spiritually uplifting things there is in life is helping others less fortunate than ourselves.
Yes, while others saw a great parade, I see show-offs. I'll bet that if you looked into who owns these boats, most of these people came from families that were well-off to begin with. If you truly believe in the spirit of Christmas, then these people would have done a better thing by donating the money they spent on decorations and fuel to families like Bryan's.
What a shame... Has the day really come when you can't even have a parade and spread a little happiness to others without being ridiculed for it. I would of never thought it was a display of "look what I have". Anonymous 10:54, you must be a scrooge!

I own one of those boats some on here want to bash, and I started with nothing, worked like you invision your son, and simply enjoy the water. If your interested, I will take your son on the dream ride this weekend. As for the rest, your the "share the wealth" "poor me" worthless drains to a productive nation.
