ARE YOU PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN?

If so, tell us why.

Nope, pretty sad that on this election I have to choose between the lesser of two evils to be the next President of the U.S.

Yes I am extremely proud. On November 4th, we will elect Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States. This will end 8 years of neoconservative rule in this country, and it will be a firm indicator that America is ready to turn away from the politics of division and class warfare, and, instead, focus on the needs of our community, country, and world.

I couldn't be more proud of a country that works together to overcome adversity and who tackles challenges head on.

God bless America!

Yes, I am proud to be an American, because we're "the land of the free and the home of the brave". Like most countries we have our problems, but they are small compared to some other places in this world. We have so much compared to other places, like some in Africa.

Absolutely I am proud, because we know have a canidate, Barack Obama, who has brought the people of this country together to fight for our rights in this government who has not allowed our voices to be heard. I plan on voting all the existing members of congress out this year and voting to bring new ones on and I encourage everyone to do so. For the first time in my life I do feel like I matter and that is because of Obama. He certainly does not have all the answers and there are many things, without working together with our congress, that he can do by himself, therefore it is important for us as the people of this wonderful country, to get involved in demanding washington to work for us not against us.

Yes, will be an extremely proud moment on Inauguration Day.

12:57,

So you have these freedoms because of Obama? Are you really that stupid?

joe albero said...

Not only should there be 100 comments already to this Post, look at the SIMPLE reasons Americans are allegedly so proud.

Think back to the 40's, 50's, 60's & 70's as to why we were proud. Then look at today.

We are a pack of fools who have forgotten where we came from. We're changing ALL of the laws that made this Country so great.

I'd bet you I could get better answers from 6th Graders in middle school than I can from grown adults here on this Blog.

Yepo, America has bec ome the land of the stupid. Robots running around doing everything the Government wants them to do and paying out everything we make so we can fight BS Wars. So stupid, our highest level of politicians have to add $140 billion in PORK just to get a BS bill passed.

I'd even bet you lazy folks will vote for Barrie Tilghman again.

Go ahead and blindly worship the messiah. If you think one man can solve this countries problems you need help. I firmly believe the prophecies of the anit-Christ have almost been fufilled. What blows me away is that there are really that many people who are falling for this bulls%&t. I should have been a bridge salesman.
Me, I am packing my bags and getting my passport ready. Obama's election will end this great republic.

No Joe, we have always had the freedom but never ever had a candidate that made us feel like we mattered. Washington has run it's own show for many years without any consideration for the american people. This bailout is a perfect example. The people didn't want it and they said so.....many of them did and what did washington do. They did it anyway. What Obama has done is help bring people together and push us to get involved again. He is not trying to run the country by himself, he is asking us to help him run the country like we should.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you Joe. I'm not sure what its going to take to get america back on its feet but we're in a pickle here.

Neither candidate is perfect. There will always be something you or I don't like about them, but you have to look at them as a whole. What can they do to bring this country together and help us run our own government.

I am proud to be an American. I have the privilege of freedom.
I have fought for that privilege
and will fight again if I have to.
The people of the Islamic religion
waged war on the U.S.and killed many people a few years ago. They
have chose to infiltrate our work
places , our schools , our government and now the highest level of gov.. We will lose that freedom if Obama is elected. We will be involved in a bloody revolution and civil war. May
God have mercy on your souls if
you elect this person , or whatever he is.

I am proud to be an AMERICAN because we have defeated the worst blood thirsty tyrants in history,
Stalin, Hitler, General Tojo, Hussein, and a list of others. We as AMERICANS have freed and helped millions of people. The human spirit of freedom lives on. I am proud to be an AMERICAN.

I have always been proud to be an American. While we have our problems, we are blessed with so many leaders who can find solutions. I find it interesting that several contributors have said that Obama makes them feel as if they matter. Just about any Presidential candidate does that, even if his promises can never come to fruition. I have voted for over 40 years and have always heard candidates of both parties attempt to obtain votes. Regardless of who wins next month, he will have to deal with a Congress that has approval ratings far worse than those of George Bush. Most of the promises that each candidate has made cannot ever hope to come to pass. So back to the question: I am so proud to be an American because we have a system in place that works and a populace that is resilient.

I read about this stuff in the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire. I wonder if Obama can play the fiddle. I think I may buy a parka and move to Alaska where America is still the land of the free and the brave. If all hell breaks loose you can still live off the land there. P.S. I'm still proud to be an American but very disappointed with her right now!

That's right Joe. That's why I'm voting for Bob Barr. A TRUE Conservative. I'm not giving the Republican Pussy Party my vote anymore.

Either you're a Conservative, or you're a Liberal pussy. McCain is just another Liberal pussy.

BOB BARR '08!

Yes, I'm proud to be an American. No matter how messed up this country may be.
The fact that we can come on here and yell, scream and holler about what we don't like-without fear of losing our lives-is such a blessing.
Our girls can go to school and not have to worry about being killed for talking to a boy they are not related to.
We can vote for who we want-even if we disagree with others.
We can worship where we want, when we want, how we want.
We're not told what to wear, where to go, who to hang out with.
My Dad's family CHOSE to come here and I'm damn glad they did. No matter what you say, this IS the BEST country on the planet to live in.

While I am certainly proud to be an American, I also hate to say we are no longer the United States! I am proud to be from a country that not only recognizes the moral and heinous crimes of Leaders like Saddam Hussein, and is willing to fight for what is right. But I’m equally shamed that our country isn’t “United” behind our choice to do the right thing and is making a mockery of the war. If World War II had taken place with our current population, we would have never made it past “D” day! The first time a video hit television of our Brave Men fighting the war, a third of the country would be out in force condemning our government for what THEY see as horrible actions! What was the first thing you were taught about defeating your enemy, “Divide and Conquer!” Well, we certainly have divided for them fast enough!

I’m also Proud to be an American when I see a political race where candidates with such diverse backgrounds can run for the highest office of our Country! But instead of being “United” in our pride of what is happening, we have stooped to name calling, lying and spreading outrageous mistruths about each other’s opponents instead of intelligently discussing the issues at hand. So while I’m proud to be an American, I’m not so proud to be included in such actions that tear away at our “United” States. I’m guessing in the not so distant future, we’ll be arguing over what “New Name” “We the People” decide we should be called. It certainly wouldn’t be “United”. Does this sound far fetched? Who, on God’s Green Earth, ever would have believed we would consider removing “God” from our Courtrooms, Public places and Currency? Think about your actions! Yes, Men and Women died fighting for our right to have our own opinion. But I’m sure they also would have expected us to use that right with respect and dignity!

I am very proud to be an American! I remember back before 9-11, it was fourth of July in Easton, MD. Lee Greenwood was there for the celebration. When he started to sing "Proud To Be an American" it brought tears to many eyes. It was a very proud and emotional moment.

This country is the greatest! We have the freedom to work where we want, live where we want, marry who we want, have as many kids as we want, say what we want, pretty much do as we please.

We are so lucky that our fore fathers left England to come here. The country that they "developed" is truly amazing!

I am probably one of the few who can still tear up when listening to the national anthem or feel pride and true thankfulness when I see men and women in their military uniforms.

I thank God every day that I am part of such a wonderful country!

God bless us all!!!

I am proud to be an American because even when war was declared on us on September 11, 2001, we stood tall and together. When hurricaine Katrina devistated the south, we stood tall and together and helped when we could. I am proud to be an American because I have the right to vote, to walk down the street (even though it may be unsafe) and to voice my opinion without being put in jail or tortured for it. I am proud of all of those that have died defending our country. I am, however, very ashamed of our government, the way it is bought so easily. I am ashamed of those who have run this wonderful country into the ground!

While I aggree that Obama has charisma, that is all he has. He is a suit that speaks well and you all are falling for it. There are so many noted flaws in his story it is not funny. The question of his true citizenship has never been competely answered to my knowledge.
He will be powerless to exact the change he preaches with the present congress still seated.
McCain is not the best choice either but the lesser of two evils.

I am a proud American one who has served the country in a time of need. Who destroyed the Nazis and the Japanease and then had the resolve to rebuild them and make them allies, I am proud to be an American who is a defender of human rights, I worship if and when I want to who i want. I can come and go as i wish without undo hassle, I am proud to be an american where my daughters will not be raped by the kings sons, or my wife taken and whipped because she choses to show her face in public, I love Anmerica with all of it's warts, I am proud of my fathers and my brothers who defend this great country. i am disappointed in what we the people have become, putting country second and their own agends first. Who feel the need to suppress the right of people to work and earn, and keep them in repression because we take away the will to work and give away bread to those who suck the country dry. Health care you bet join the military and serve, lower taxes you bet get out and work in your community, spread the wealth, you bet support people who want to work and encourage them to start their own business, don't give them money to support their fat a$$ lifestyles make them do a drug test instead of giving it all away. I am proud of my America, very dissapointed in what people want to make it.

OK, so some of you are proud to be Americans because of our HISTORY?

Let's get into MODERN times now.

Are you proud to have had Bush in Office for the past 8 years?

Are you proud to have known that election was stolen by the Republicans?

Are you PROUD that three airplanes were actually able to hit targest, (two World Trade Centers and the Pentagon) without being shot down first?

Are you PROUD of the Iraq War and the lack of WMD's?

Are you PROUD of the recent Bailout?

Are you proud of the PORK that forced it to go through?

Yes, HISTORY certainly proved America to be a much better place. However, today, America is a Country of political criminals, locally and nationally.

Oh, for the person who can cry whenever they hear the National Anthem, while that is very touching, today you have to pay $3.00 for that parking space to watch that ball game in order to listen to it being presented.

That, "I'm proud to be an American" song is a load of sh!t. It's a feel good brainwashing piece of crap.

America is NOT what is was back in the day. Today, it's all screwed up by politicians lining their pockets. Yes, there was a day, (back in the day) when TAXPAYERS would be smart enough to flat out know, a Fire Station, (a big garage) does NOT cost $10,000,000.00!!!!!! A REPAIR on an elevator does NOT cost $100,000.00!!!!!! Local Americans have become so stupid that they'll accept water and sewer increases and then allow their leaders to go ahead and spend millions more on change orders to make it even bigger because the cost down the road would be too high. DUH!

I've yet to see a MODERN reason why you are proud to be an American. So please do continue to entertain us and I'll work on getting answers from 6th Graders who can probably do a better job than the rest of you.

Anonymous said...

So then, you're NOT proud to be an American, Joe? I'm confused. You're saying a lot of nasty things about my country, man.

Joe, obvious you are very angry at what is going on in Salisbury and this country and it is understandable you should be, but you can not expect people to rally up with you to fight the system when they see your behavior. You really need to learn to work together with everyone in a calm manner that is not so attacking. Making valger remarks about people who have a differnt opinions doesn't get us anywhere. I would be more willing to listen to you if I felt you were willing to listen equally about my opinion and us come to some equal ground. Maybe you could convence me to change my mind, but it won't be changed by attacking us.

What's the Shuttle doing up in space? How many billions of dollars are we spending flying a select few into outer space. Yeah, sometimes we actually repair a satalite. However, you're proud to be an American because we foolishly spend billions of dollars on a space program for NOTHING?

2:18..
My intentions were not to debate politics when I commented. I was, however, calling you out and I believe another 'anon' has as well. You talk about us falling for the 'anti-christ' and talk about some end-times prophecy. I cannot stand when people describe the end-times phrophecies and try to attribute it vaguely to current events. Ironically you call me a mindless sheep, but who's falling for what? Additionally, I 'emplore'(surely you meant implore) you to consider your sources and 'alleged facts' and RE-OPEN your mind to truth, not fantasy.

Also, I am proud to be an American because I have the freedom to believe in whichever religion, or non-religion (I prefer the latter, and I hope you do as well) I want, as well as whichever political party (independent/libertarian) I prefer. You (2:18) call me a mindless sheep thinking that I am just following the pack, I'd prefer to call it expressing and enforcing my rights as an American.

I once was proud to be an American. I can remember when people in other countries did anything and everything to come here to live the life we led.

Joe, you should of asked to list all the reasons why ours views of where we live have changed.

We don't have the freedoms we once had. Our government had admitted to listening to our calls.
Emails aren't safe especially if you aren't on your own computer.

Taxes have gone up so much yet we're paying for the same thing we were paying for many years ago.

We keep building on land which was once farmland. We can't grow more land people. Once it's gone what will you do, build higher? We need land to grow food and raise animals.

I'm proud of who I am as a person. The government had nothing to do with that part of my life. They just make it harder to live it from year to year.

I am very proud to be an American. I've been a patriot since I can remember. I went to school during the bicentennial. I served our country through war and I've helped my community by volunteering with my local fire department. I feel the blood of liberty flowing thru my veins. I love that I have the freedom to speak what I believe without the fear of government retaliation.

However, I'm not proud of where my government has taken my country over the last couple of decades. I don't like that I can't carry a gun to protect myself and family. I don't like that the government wants to constantly create laws to limit my freedom. I don't like that the government doesn't treat everyone fairly. I don't like the government letting our borders be wide open to let anyone in, when our ancestors had to work hard, learn our language and learn our government to be part of this great nation, and now people can come here, force us to put up their language, make us accept their customs and traditions and water down our fundamental freedoms and customs. I don't like that the sacrifices we made in times of war are not upheld. We are one nation under God. We should be giving everyone oppertunities, not handouts. Health care should be a privledge. Driving a priveledge. Voting a priveledge. Taxes should be fair for everyone. Government should be shrunk.

I am very very proud to be a God fearing, God loving red blooded, liberty fighting American. But we have a long way to go to return our country to the laws and regulations that our founding fathers set up. Reduce government. Let the states govern themselves without fear of losing money or being manipulated by the federal government.

I'm proud to be an American, but I'm not proud of the evil that we let take hold in our communities.

I'm proud to be an American, but I'm disappointed by the example our leaders show us by dividing us instead of uniting us. By making personal agendas more important than fixing things that will help us all.

I'm proud to be an American, but I'm not proud that we still hyphenate some of our ancestery in front of American.

I'm proud to be an American, but I'm not proud of the continuos infighting that cripples every organization within our borders.

I'm very proud to be an American and I will continue to love my neighbor as myself. I will always give before I take. I will always help, no matter how much my body wants to quit and give out. I will always fight with everything I have to perserve our freedom and democracy so that my children and their children can continue to live with the freedom to worship Jesus. They can continue to work hard and enjoy the fruits of their labors. They can still vote for thing that are important to them. I will always, always fight to provide our fellow citizens with the rights that we believe God has given everyone of us.

May God bless the people of our Nation. May God bless our country, and May God always use us to promote the goodness that we always have done.

Grateful to live in America, yes. Greatful to be born in a country where i dont ahve to hide my face as a woman, where i can say fuck you to the government and its considered freedom of speech, yes. Greatful that i can attend concerts, eat a big fat cheeseburger, worship whatever "One" i call my God, vote freely for who i want, and have a chance to make a great life, and speak english, french, spanish, chinese, and not worry wether anyone can understand me cause someone will have to learn it to accomidate me, yes.

Proud to be an American... Thats debateable at this point. Am i proud to say we have become a country so focused on being pollitaclly correct that we overlook everything to keep one race or another happy. Hell no. Am i proud to say we are a country more worried on taking care of the poor, hungry, and oppresed of other contries then we are worried about those that need it in our back yard? Hell no. Am i proud that we are a country that will spend millions to bail out banks that knew better. HELL NO!!!

YES I am proud to be an American because I believe in Democracy, I know that America offered my multi-national ancestors the opportunty to work, live with freedom, make money, practice their own religion, and be part of a society that believes in freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom to vote, freedom to do almost everything.

I am proud to be an American becasue this country has helped others be free, over generations this country has helped more people and more countries than one can list.(lest we forget the billions of dollars we have spent to help other countries, in good times and in times of war, famine, flood, natural disaster)

We might be having a difficult and hard time right now, so what, we are growing up, we are a young nation,(historically speaking) we have to take our mistakes and learn from them.

We as a country are good people, generous people, hard working, and most of all we know how to work together to solve problems, and pitch in.I have heard it said, by persons from other countries, "there are no people in the world like Americans, when times are tough they pitch in and help each other, they give more money when disaster strikes than anyone else in the world."

We are going to face some hard times, we will get through them, why? becasue we are
AMERICANS and we can do it.(some may bitch and complain but do it anyway) History says se can do it, and we will.

We are a country of Hope, we are a coutry that Belives in our Future. WE are the future of our coutnry, and we can do it.

The first anon 3.33 hit the nail on the head. I am a naturalized American citizen. Therfore I cannot say I am proud to be an American, because that would imply thta America is what it is today because of something that i have done. I am loyal to America. I will like to9 repeat something that i heard somewhere." always give your loyalty to your country and only give loyalty to your government when they deserve it.I am grateful to be American, I am happy to be American, the reason I am grateful to be American is because when you hear people say that you can be whatever you want to be it is true. now for the caveat, I am not smart enough to be a rocket scientist or anything of that intellectual caliber. however i am successful in my chosen profession because of my ability and my hardwork, and i have no doubt that if i were smart enough to be a rocket scientist i would be one. I think you should change the question Joe, because the accident of the location of peoples birth should not determine pride.

I read a lot of resentment
Anyone who care enough to comment
should be applauded, not chided for not using their name.

The people here are small minded, and punish folks for their opinion, instead of respecting them, that is why people comment anonymously if you all would grow up, learn respect for others and other's opinions, people would use their names. But with a Mayor who punishes anyone who speaks out against her, and a group who does the same politically for her, I am surprised that anyone has the courage to speak up anywhere. Joe, You asked for a reason why we should be proud to be an American in these modern times and I would like to make an attempt at answering that question. We should be proud, and I would think that you of all people would be aware of this, because although we may not agree with everything that our Government does, or may not even agree with most of it, but because of it we have the right not to agree with it. Moreover we have the right not to agree with it and voice it, publically. Some of us...even have the ability to make a living (perhaps when we should be attempting to make a positive change) voicing our displeasure. I am even more proud of the people that have fought and died for that right. Guess what Joe, a lot of those people who fought didnt agree with your views although they died for your right to express them. If that does not make you proud to be an American, I dont know what will. I will be the first to admit our society is far from perfect, but because we are Americans we as a whole, all races, all sexes, all religions, will survive.

Americans have always had the ability to press on. "Nothing in the world can take the place of persistance. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsucessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistance and determination are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the American people" Calvin Coolidge

Not as proud as I used to be, but I'm hopeful for improvements in our leadership.

On November 4th, if Barack Obama is elected, it will be the first time in American history that a bisexual, cocaine-abusing male has been elected. May God help us!

if you are not proud to be an American, chances are you have never left the country. I dare any one of you who are not proud to go live in a third world country for a little while. You dont know what you have till its gone. I have lived in some of the harshest environments where the quality of life is absolutly herendous. Where whole communities are litterly starving, not out of choice, not because they are drug addicts, not because they have made bad decisions, but because that is the situitation they were born into. There is no health care, there are no hospitals, roads, grocery stores. Where if you want to eat, you have to go catch it. Try doing that for a little while instead of going throough a drive thru window or ordering dominos pizza. I dare you to go live there and then tell me you are not proud to be an american. Im willing to bet you will have a new found sense of pride in your country that today you are so willing to bash. And if this country has gone to hell in a handbag do something about it. Do what our prestigous forefathers did, and create a change, or better yet just leave, thats right leave. go on get out of here.

I am proud to be an American. Over the course of the past year I have taken the time to look into our history like I never have before. I've learned that many things we were taught in school were "skewed". I've learned we have to look past what our Govt. wants us to learn by editing history and open our minds to other sources. Our nation was built by the colonists - all of them. From those that put the Declaration of Independence together, to those who funded the effort, to those who fought and died for our independence. Most everyone gave something and some gave everything so that their families could live free. Our founding fathers realized something that many of us never learned in school. In 1215 the very first "bill of rights" was established. It was known as the Maga Carta. These were rights given to people by their King. Our founding fathers acknowledged that these rights were not to be granted by a king or president or dictator. They acknowledged that in a free society rights are granted by GOD. I.E. "we hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal. That they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights...."

I have a picture of my Grandfather and Grandmother taken in 1931. They were sitting in a chair in front of a shack he had built out of things that had drifted up the Delaware River. In the picture my father is sitting on my Grandfathers knee. He was less than a year old. It was just one of many in that small "community" built by people like him who became jobless during the great depression. These communities popped up across our nation. History clusters them together and refers to them as "Hoovervilles" ... but Americans made due with what they had. A decade later my Grandfather found himself in Europe during WW2 fighting against a brutal tyrant in order to preserve the very same god given freedoms for which our founding fathers fought and died yet our current legislators slowly and steadily water down and strip away. My Grandmother said many times that a large part of my Grandfather stayed in Europe and that it was the reason he would sit in a chair in his front yard and stare until you interrupted him by engaging him in conversation. I was always proud to know that he was willing to make the sacrifice that so many Americans made to ensure that those God given rights remained for future generations. The fact that those fundamental rights remained intact for so long is a testament to the fact that there was a fundamental belief in God and country which caused them to set aside their differences when times got tough and deal with problems as AMERICANS. Not Republicans or Democrats - AMERICANS!

Here we are. Roughly three generations, 67 years, and four wars since "the war to end all wars". "We the people " have permitted our govt. to divide us. They've divided us by race, religion, economic standing, and political ideals and we let it happen. Never in my life have I heard so much talk of revolution and civil war. Even my 65 year old aunt in N.J. believes that it will take a civil war to put our country back on track.....and she's a liberal. How much more friggin' divided can we be? I love my Country and I am very proud to be an American and I passionately love my country....but right now my govt. makes me sick. How dare they take it upon themselves to legislate away things which have been endowed by God! This govt.- from the president to congress to the senate - have been nothing short of a catastrophic failure.

This election is going to prove to be the most important of my lifetime. Everyone should look upon voting not as a right but as an OBLIGATION - a civic duty. Our founding fathers fought and died so that we CAN vote and some of us can't even get up off our fat asses and go to the God damned ballot box.

I don't like the way America is heading but I love it enough to do what it takes to keep it the land of the free.

Yes, I am proud of America and always have been, but then I'm not that unpatriotic piece of shit, Mrs. Obama!

I really have no room to say anything because of where I will not be voting this year, however, I must say that ever since I started talking to my father... Granddad.... about this whole election that will be happening no matter what this year. I missed the registration to sign up for voting. I would never vote for Barack Obama. I read this blog everyday at work, on my break. I love how on SBY News Joe provides evidence on most of the things that he writes about. Like how Barack wants to become The President of this nation, and for some reason he can't recite the pledge of alligence... HUH??? What do you think will happen if he wins, our whole country will go down the toilet!!! Now back to what I was saying... I am not proud to be an American right now because of where there is so much Horse SH!T going on!!! Barack supports his terristic cousin?? Are you insane to vote a creature like that into office... People, there aren't many things that we are able to make a difference with in this world... This being the one thing that we hopefully can do for this country if the government doesn't screw us too bad....Please rethink your decision if you were thinking Barack Obama... Think about the life that your children and you will have to grow up with.... and think how terrible you will feel if he gets voted into office and we get bombed from over seas because he is too worried about other things.

I am very proud to be an American BUT I am very disappointed in the direction its headed in.When my ancestors immigrated here,it was becasue they knew if they worked hard they could build a good life. Now anyone who can sneak into the borders gets a free ride,as well as those already here who do not want to help themselves.
True,we have defeated many enemies but what difference does it make if we climb in bed with those very enemies and let them take over our country?
And Government is out of control...The original purpose of our federal government was to establish a postal system, maintain law and order and coin money. Not to feed and house lazy people, not to bail out other countries or big corporations, and not to be run into the ground by those who will only divide the country further.
Say what you want, but Obama has already divided the country.

Bride2Be, if you can't vote I respectfully urge you to go door to door and spread the word for the right choice. I also urge you to participate in sign waving and working the polls the day of the election.

Thank you for not supporting our domestic terrorist candidate.

What?!?!? Bride2be you didn't register to vote?!? You shouldn't be telling people what type of decision to make if you're not going to vote. Honey, our country is at a critical point. This is probably the most important election of my time. If Obama is elected you can bet your ass your taxes will go up. When that happens, the state will follow suit (especially with O'Malley) and your paycheck will shrink. You know that house you're buying? You'll be eating Spam to be able to make the payments. Oh...and forget any pay raises because your employer won't be able to afford them with the tax increase. It's a no win situation if Obama is elected. Bet you won't forget to register again.

I am proud!!

I am proud of my roots...PA Dutch farmers back to the 17th century on one side...Slaves from about the same time on the other. So I am extremely proud of my roots.

I am proud of the hope and opportunity this country offers to bring all kinds together to create unprecedented progress for ourselves and to be a light to the world, in a way that other countries can only dream of.

I love this country. I am excited for the future, troubles and all. I mainly hope we can become a more productive nation again, that values hard work and maybe gives better opportunities (manufacturing!) to those who can't achieve a high education, the way things used to be.

We will do it, we are scrappy, bright, settlers and pioneers and fighters.

Yay, America!

I am proud to be an American because WE gave the Iraqi people freedoms that the founding fathers gave us.

Bride2be, if the only information you are getting is from this blog and from granddad, then I'm happy you are not voting. While I'll never urge someone to vote for one candidate or another (it's our freedom to choose, just like religion, I'll never push my views on another), I would hope that you would attempt to broaden your knowledge on the issues beyond your father or a republican biased blog (no offense Joe, we're all entitled to our views)

Anon 10:47, Are you a Jehovah's Witness? Sounds like something they'd do. How about you let us decide and not push your views onto us. Besides, anyone willing to trust someone's views going door to door shouldn't be allowed to register anyway!

Granddad, Sticking with the theme of this post, you shouldn't be telling someone what kind of decision to make whether you are or aren't registered to vote.

We all have the freedom to vote for whomever we want, we even have the freedom to express our opinion, but I feel that you should never try to push your beliefs on anyone else. That's what most people in this post are doing by either 'fear-mongering' or name-calling. Please, post FACTS, and if they're strong enough they'll stand alone. You wouldn't have to do this name calling or bullying if they were strong enough.

Time for coffee!!!

Bluto,

Obama didn't cause the division. The people on this site who post things like "Obama is a bisexual" and "Mrs. Obama is an unpatriotic piece of shit" are the ones who have cause the division in this country.

Hate causes division.

Lance,

You can't "give" a country their freedom. Just like no one gave it to us. They have to earn it on their own, and fight for it for themselves.

What we DID do is waste over half a trillion dollars helping secure the profits of international oil companies, and they turned around and raised the prices on us at home.

Don't confuse yourself with what the actual purpose and goals of the Iraq war were.

I'm already eating Spam to make the payments, thanks to Bush and the man who has supported his economic policies all the way, John McCain.

I'll take my chances on the gentlemanly black fellow. The Republicans ain't been no good about money for a hell of long time.

anon 9:11, I was waiting for some dumbass like you to post. I don't give a sh*t what you say or why we went there because when I rolled into Baghdad and saw the looks on peoples faces I know exactly what we gave them...FREEDOM! That is a prospective you can not get from sitting your fat ass on the couch and watching CNN. I have done something to be proud of for my fellow man? I am sick of all the neysayers that have not done anything but complain about everything. Anon 9:11 Please tell me you have done something with your life for your fellow man besides complain? If not shut the hell up...you jerk!

The intelligence of people who won't vote for Obama because he is a "bisexual cocaine addict" is just amazing. Do you believe everything you read, or just the negative lies? I am a proud American Obama supporter, and I am confident, as Obama is, that this country is better than its problems, and that the American people are better than the negativity expressed in many of these comments.

Yes, I love my country, though most citizens behave as idiots. Power can still be wielded from the citizens as long they get up to vote or contact their elected official.

Those who see America as a cash cow will never love or sacrifice for her. There is much amiss, yet which could be remedied with citizen involvement.Paying taxes is not what I mean by involvement.

Lance,

I gave you a cogent and rational response where I laid out my opinion of the situation and told that I thought yours was wrong.

You, in turn, responded with hate, vitriol, and insults. You gave no argument in rebuttal, questioned my intentions and history, and ended your little diatribe with another insult.

Good day. I don't converse with the profane, easily agitated, or erratically unhinged.

anon 1239, You have no clue what you are talking about. The Iraqis are earning their freedom with our help; just like the French helped us during the Revolutionaty War... I guess you forgot about that. If you had been in Iraq and seen what is really happening on the ground you could see past dollar signs. People like you will never admit that the Iraqi people are NOT living under fear anymore and what the US military is going there is a GREAT thing. I guess you will just keep getting your info from the TV. As for your oil argumant, where is all the oil that we are getting from Iraq? We are building Schools, Hospitals, roads and everything else yet Iraq is not exporting large amounts of oil. If we are there just for the oil why, as you would say, would we waste all this money to help the people? Please answer that. Anon 1239 you never did answer my question, what have you done for your country?...except excercises your freedom of speech. It is easier to end a conversation when you are wrong.
