How Salisbury News Could REALLY Hurt The Daily Times

I have been considering making a change to Salisbury News in which we would only deliver Breaking News Stories after 8:00 PM. The reason we would consider doing such a thing is to assure the Daily Times would be at least two days behind.

Right now they're following our news like there's no tomorrow because they have downsized big time and they're using our information to get their news. If I hold off this information until after 8:00 Pm, they can't stop the Presses and take our news. This would put them back two days, unless you get it on line.

What do YOU think we should do? I kind of like bringing you the news in Real Time but quite frankly I'm also getting tired of doing all their work. Your input will seal the deal.

I'd wait to post your breaking news till its to late for them to get it on the press.. Your readers shouldn't mind.

Real Time Joe. Forget the Daily Times, even if they are stealing your story ideas. It's all good. They're going down the drain anyway so keep us informed as soon as you get your hands on it. Please?

Why don't you wait until 1 April and have some REAL fun with them. It would be so much fun to see them chase their tales.

Anonymous said...

--- you probably shouldn't because than you might discover the DT is not "stealing" as much as you would like us to think --- by the way, what would be your comments if the DT published an article "Another body found dead......if we find out this is true we will write more info" My opinion is I would like for you to have your facts before posting maybes? This is the difference between Gossip and Gospel.

to joe & readers -
Fact #1 - ALL newsprint media are in a decline.
Fact #2 - All web news sources deliver in real time.
Fact #3 - Web blogs not required to verify and validate stories (ie; heard about a dead body on fitzwater street)
Fact #4 - SBYNEWS.com covers very narrow band of news (pet stories of blog administrator)
Fact #5 - NO local blog can carry the full scope of news that the "Daily Times" carries. (ie; sports, obits, stocks, local, national, ads, Help wanted, etc.)

Joe theres NO WAY you have the time or resources to inform the public like the DT. YES you are faster on some stories. Yes you are an asset to us BUT you are only one piece of the news puzzle.
There's no way you can compare yourself to them, apples and oranges.

It really doesn't matter which of the two you choose - daily newspapers are a dying breed. By the time they get it to the people it's old news to all but those who don't use a computer. A weekly newspaper which focuses on investigative reporting would be their only recourse at this point.

Perhaps you missed the title.

"Another Dead Body Found On Fitzwater Street?"

Do you see the question mark at the end?

This is a Blog, not a Newspaper. Oh, it's FREE too. The Daily Times gets pictures from other people to MOST events any more because they won't pay a photographer to cover the event, so they rely on everyone attending to send them a photo.

So everyone knows, the Daily Times pays $40.00 a picture to everyone else. If YOU'RE not being paid for each photo, you're getting screwed, just so you know. Think about it. It could easily pay for your gas and admission to all these events.

That being said, Salisbury News does it all at our own expense and like everyone realizes, we're everywhere.

So like it or not, we're kicking their a$$, unless you want all associated press articles in your local news?

Again, please send me your billing address so I can send you a monthly bill?

Click the X in the top right corner of this page if you don't like what we deliver.

To Quote the blog author..
"This is a Blog, not a Newspaper."

Then why are you comparing this blog to a newspaper?

joe albero said...

Because Blogs are the future.

Anonymous said...

forget the daily rag joe..give us real time...anybody who know the truth knows they are copying you...

joe albero said...

I told you the Daily Times follows this Site day in and day out. Look how defensive they're getting. ROTFLMAO!

Anonymous said...

you should post in real time and make up a few so that the Daily times would look even more stupid than they are.

Suggest a middle ground:

Hold most local news stories breaking after 3PM until 9PM.

But: run the biggies in real time because the DT will get most of them in the next day's edition.

Joe,
Our input will only seal the deal if we agree with your silly idea, of making yourself late with information in order to hurt "the competitor".
Please don't offend the rest of us, by assuming we may or may not choose to read their rag. We read your blog because we like your blog. It has nothing to do with The Times. Some of us also read the Times.
You are a leader. Lead.

Post when you get the news. Who cares about the times. All I ask is the story is factual and not speculation. If they replace newspapers, you had better be ready to be accurate rather than just timely.

That's what got you here Joe, stick at it. More and more people are checking this blog out. I hear people talking about it, some employed by the city, they want truth too even though I don't blame them for not using their name.

I hear people talk about this blog that not in my wildest dreams would have thunk it, checking it out. Stick with what got you here, except no more mare high beams pleaseeeeeee

I wold wait and hold the news to.

I've noticed that The Daily Times seems to follow your leads. Look at how they did the story on the City and Counties Energy policy. They saw the number of comments posted a few weeks ago and used your media as a test bed for their future expose story.

But you are much to 'quick to the punch' and I'd hold off too.

Real time please. We know you work hard. Anyway you solicit help so that it's not falling entirely on you????????

Response to 6:54 posting:

Where the hell have you been?

Has not SBYnews delivered pertinent new coverage on virtually every conceivable cogent topic?

Has not SBYnews covered news angles that have otherwise been overlooked, censored, or slanted by The Daily Times staff?

Has not SBYnews been extremely timely in release of their news to the general public?

By golly you must be either a Daily Times reporter or the local town drunk to ignore these folks.

I agree. Post is when you get it but can you dispense with the personal attacks and the stories that border on rumor without facts. You have a tremendous thing going here Mr. Albero. The personal stuff hurts your credibility in my opinion. Keep up the good work but keep it real yo.

Personally, I love it when you have it first. I look here even before the TV most of the time. However, you could try it for 1 week and see how it goes, I guess.

6:54 must be otis the town drunk (mare) she was rejected from the betty ford clinic for being a biotch. that alcohol goes down good, she's been drinking so long hangovers are a thing of the past.

Depending on what the story is I like Real Time but I also can see your point on doing their work.

I'm behind you 100%.

Anonymous said...

Keep it real time.

Real time! I check your site several times throughout the day...and first! I don't subscribe to the newspaper nor do I check their site. I know that if I hear something is going on during the day, I can jump on here and find out what it is! Keep up the good work and screw everyone else!

Let's try this out for size instead.

Look at the names you've put out there. Now, I'm ONE person you claim that hates all these people. However, look at the more important issue here instead.

Mayor hates Joe, one person.
Chief of Police hates Joe, same person.
Gordy hates Joe, again, one person.
Times eds hate Joe, again, one person.

It's now wonder sbynews is so influential. However, Joe doesn't run ANY of these departments, so how do you feel about all these people who hate JOE, one person?

I'm tired and I hope I'm making sense.

Joe, The reason I like the chief (hic) is cause I get a place to sleep it off (hic) and he don't remember either

I got news for all of you. Before there was a blog, before the Bassett hound ran the paper, before all these come heres arrived and told us how we should be doing things there was a grapevine in this town that the Daily Times couldn't beat, even back then. They've always been a day late and a dollar short.

Chimera said...

To paraphrase the song...."do what you like".Even the people who still read The Times come here first.

I love this blog and I LOVE the FACT that Joe doesn't "give a sh!t" and opens peoples eyes to what is going on with the people that are 'running' this town.
EVERY other news source in this town is bias. Too worried to step on someones toes and piss someone off.
Keep up the good work Joe and stay real time.

I think you should keep it real time, I have recently started reading your blog and check it daily for updates, including crime reports which I think are important.

I completely get your point though, if you can research and let people know what's going on (yes, sometimes it's opinion but it is what it is...your blog)certainly the local journalists should be able to do the same. It's so frustrating when something has happened (major fire/accident/crime) and you turn on local news or check the paper and there's not a word about it.
