The Salisbury Downtown Plaza Continues To Fall Into Disrepair

At least when John Jacobs was in charge of Public Works the Downtown Plaza was managed and taken care of.

Now, the Mayor his hired Mr. Caldwell and obviously the City has bigger concerns elsewhere and they refuse to take care of the grounds. I've been watching property owners working on the weekend to care for the plants and trim them but if things keep going at this pace it will take no time before the point of no return.

The third photo is Doug Church's property with all the trash and cigarette butts, etc. The second photo is the fountain on the Plaza in which the City has turned off with no explanation? The algae is growing very quickly, to a point you can't even see some of the money people are tossing into the fountain.

Well, anyway, the pictures speak for themselves. This Mayor has screwed this City so deep into the ground it isn't funny. Look at the curbing everywhere. It's cracking and falling apart, just like the sidewalks. She's taxed you to death and we're getting nothing back in return. Instead, you get a $10,000,000.00 Fire House and a $14,000,000.00 TIF for a Developer.

Yeah, let's vote in another Housewife to run a multi million dollar business with no past experience. Comegys can't pay his own personal bills, nor can Shanie. Let's see how stupid the Salisbury City Taxpayers are in the next election? I happen to think people have become more educated and Barrie's group are going to look like complete fools for even trying.

Joe:

There's been no difference in the City's maintenance of the Downtown Plaza before/after the departure of John Jacobs last year -- it's been almost non-existent from the time BPT was first elected 10 years ago -- and now the Plaza has become derelict.

Well america is thinking about electing a community organizer to run this nation. How scary!

Instead of taking care of the plaza, let' have a crosswalk made so the transit riders can cross RT 13 at the Royal Farm store!! What a waste of tax payers money. Are they too lazy to walk a few feet to the traffic light?! Wait and see how many accidents this will create!!

It kills me to go downtown and see a city with so much potential go to waste. It's like the people running this town have never traveled outside of the county. They need to see how other towns use what they already have (ie. River, Historic Downtown, Restaurants)to promote positive growth. The downtown should be a hip place to go for those who want to dine/shop away from the Mcdonalds/Walmart's that we are infested with. Get a fu***n clue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe,
Why must you constantly insult housewives when comparing us to the mayor? I am a housewife, and let me tell you, my house has never resembled the dilapidated state of downtown Salisbury! Obviously she was a FAILURE as a housewife, so I think you should stop calling her that. Thanks!

Yes, most of this city is falling apart, ecept for the new roadwork on Isabella Street. Not only are there planters out in the street, thereis also new brickwork for those planters and for the sidewalks, plus a full resurface of the street. Nice, I guess, so when is it our turn to have this kind of carring nicities?

There is so much wrong with SBY right now I wouldn't know where to start to make it good again...seriously. This administration is appparently not concerned with financial stability or accountability. They're not worried about the long term health or well-being of the people who trusted them by electing them to their leadership positions. They don't care whether the infrastructure of the city is in good shape. They certainly don't believe in perpetuating our freedoms. It would appear that personal power is the only thing they concern themselves with. Getting it,keeping it, wielding it.
They must be so proud of themselves and their legacy to the city. I'm ashamed that we,as citizens and voters, made such bad choices in the voting booth. More than once, unfortunately. I hope we've at least learned some hard lessons. Expensive ones, too.

2:04, you have been reading my mind! Remember a few years back when they were working so hard to get downtown "fixed up" and they reopened the plaza to one way traffic? Well at Christmas we drove thru and couldn't stop laughing !!! It was a joke. IF I had been the mayor, I would have personally gone out and bought $3.00 strings of lights so that EVERY window would have lights in them. That was the least they could have done. It was disgusting. Also, all one has to do is drive to Easton and see what they did a long time ago. I love to go there for lunch with friends and go into the shops. It is a quaint and friendly town. Riverside, CA is another town that has redone their downtown as well. I don't travel a lot, but I have crossed the country a few times as well as London and have seen enough to know we can do a lot better in Salisbury. Spice
