Bigotry & Horrendous Acts?

I am reaching out to people that may find the following disturbing enough to get involved.

Here is one quote "Anytime the town has to have guards at the door to protect the perverts, that's not something for Middletown," Kelly said. "I'm disgusted with it." - this is in regards to Sandra Bernhard and John Waters performing at the festival - Kelly is on the Town's council

Please take the time to read this article from the front page of Mondays
News Journal http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080714/NEWS/8 07140337 or HERE.

At this time we have nowhere to put both performers and we have been told we cannot have them perform where we originally intended. The event is less than three weeks away.

Concept behind Unicity

The idea behind the Unicity Festival is to bring people together through the diversity of performing artists. So often you hear that you can only see certain types of artists in large cities throughout the country. We have been told recently that Main Street America is not interested in having diversity in their towns. We are testing that theory for the first time with the Unicity Performing Arts Festival
taking place on August 2nd 2008. The goal is to add a town every year until we have one day a year where towns across America unite and get to enjoy a variety of artists. We also hope to infuse small towns with revenue from the festival and a portion of each festival is given to a charity. This years event will benefit The Boys & Girls Club of America.

The Challenge

We are asking that if you believe in the concept and think it is a positive goal to attempt to reach, that you purchase a $15.00 limited access ticket to the event to support it even if you are unable to attend. If you will be attending you can purchase a regular ticket. If you will not be attending and want your ticket donated you can purchase an angel pass. All angel passes will be given away to local charities. All purchases will remain secure and anonymous.

If you do not believe this is a good idea then do nothing. Our goal is to find out if you support the concept. For a direct link to the Angel Pass Click here
https://unicityfestival.secureserverdot.com/AngelPass.php

Any support would be greatly appreciated.

anything with music involved is just plain good for the soul. arts of every kind need to be in the schools and the young peoples lives as much as possible. i think its a great ideal. (oh, and not everyone is goona like all the same stuff, but everyone should be given the opurtunity to perform and to watch, look and listen). you know there are some things that are inapropriate when kids are around and things. as far as the mid-western americans, their seeing the degeneration of our nation and they have every right to be skeptical of anything they see as a threat to their way of life, its natural. if some of these events could be pulled off in cities that allow it right now and everyone could see how its not a threat at all, but a really good way to experience all forms of art and music and just a really good time. then you could re-approach the mid western towns and maybe get a differant response.

I don't think Sandra Bernhard or John Waters are musicians. IMHO Bernhard is an obnoxious loudmouth. She's not a Uniter. I'm not sure about Waters.

its about music and performing arts from all cultures being part of one event... its not ABOUT sandra bernhardt or john waters its about mixing cultures and people so that each side can see the beauty in each... i guess you are one of the people who do not get it...

John Waters is amazing, but I didn't know that he performed!!!

Come on - 'Cry Baby,' Hairspray,' etc. are awesome!!!!

the city of middletown is now in an uproar over the fact that "blacks", "gays" and other musicians will be in their area... thats the bigotry, thats the problem... apparently even with the most honest of intentions others prejudices and biases can interfere with art and performance... whats wrong with this freakin country???/

4:14 p.m. -- that's what I assumed from what was not being said outright, that these people are gay, therefore they are perverts, therefore we don't want them in our town.

That makes me sick. I am straight and utterly disgusted by the hatred that gays are subjected to.

I think the idea behind "Unicity" is to show, people are people regardless of differences.

exactly the point! and maybe they should just host it in salisbury somewhere?

I am just going to make an educated guess here that that town in the midwest probably has aa serious problem with meth addiction and some holier than thou council person is worried about a few gay people performing.

this town is not in the midwest... its just north of us in middletown delaware!!!
