Incident: Handgun / CDS Violation
Date of Incident: 21 June 2008
Location: 1400 Block of S. Salisbury Blvd., Salisbury, MD
Suspects: Joshua Paul Bowling, 24, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 21 June 2008 at 5:30 PM, deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office acted on a tip they received through Crime Solvers regarding the location of Joshua Bowling. The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office held a warrant for Bowling for Violation of Probation. The tip sent deputies to an apartment building in the 1400 Block of S. Salisbury Blvd in Salisbury, MD. When the deputies were unable to get an answer at the door, they kept the apartment under surveillance. After a short while, the target of their surveillance, Bowling, exited the apartment building and attempted to leave the area on a motorcycle. The deputies swarmed the area causing Bowling to quickly jump off the motorcycle and run back inside the apartment building. Deputies chased Bowling and followed him up onto the roof where they cornered him and were able to arrest him. During the foot chase, the deputies recovered a knapsack dropped by Bowling. Inside that knapsack they located a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun, a half pound of marijuana and digital scales. The amount of marijuana, along with the scales, led to Bowling being charged with Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute. Additionally, Bowling faces charges relative to illegal possession of a handgun. It was also discovered that the handgun had been reported stolen in a previous burglary currently being investigated by the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and the Wicomico County Bureau of Investigation

Bowling was transported to the Central Booking Unit at the Wicomico County Detention Center where Bowling was processed and charged with the outstanding violation of Probation warrant along with the charges from this incident. After an initial appearance, Bowling was held without bond in the Wicomico County Detention Center.

the situation where the guy ran back into the building and up on the roof is crazy. he could of very easily opened fire on the cops. their family could of lost a father, a husband,a brother. these guys deserve more money. the powers that be should give it to them.

I am sure that the Bolwling guy was just trying to make an honest living selling drugs to support a kid and his girl just like the stupid ass that led the Sherrifs on a chase through Delmar a few months ago. Bowling got off easy. The Delmar idiot got f-ed up due to his own stupidity.

all police officers/deputies are payed extremely poorly for the long hours, endless peril face, all to keep people sleeping safe and sound in their beds at night. Way to go 5-0

Great job fellas...

But...I am tired of people saying that these guys are underpaid for what they do. If they feel that bad, quit, go back to school and get a degree that will pay them more.

We all appreciate what they do and the service they provide but times are tough and they get paid a lot for what they do.

Plus, they get free gas for their take home cars...nice perk! That adds about 6K or more a year to their pay.

Mike Lewis is making our Sheriff Department one of the best. I never recalled the sheriffs department being this active under previous leadership. Keep up the great work.

too bad they didn't have a canine to sick on that guy that ran. maybe a police dog locked on his crotch would be a pleasant reminder not to run from the police. you never know, you may accidently fall running from police and land in the middle of busy Rt 13.

1239 they did not need a canine because deputy cordrey was on scene he is a criminal's worst nightmare
