Pocomoke City first grader Madison Litton was overwhelmed with long hair. The care and detangling it required to keep it nice was more than she wanted deal with this summer. After talking to her mother and father Chris and Heidi Litton, it was determined that she would have it cut for the summer. Heidi made an appointment with Pocomoke resident and local stylist Barbara Adkins.
What makes this story special is that Madison will be donating her beautiful silky hair to the 'Locks of Love' Foundation. Locks of Love uses the hair to make wigs for financially needy children who have lost their hair because of medical treatments or disease that have made their own hair fall out.
Studies have shown that a positive reflection in the mirror of a patient undergoing treatment that drastically changes their appearance is greatly beneficial to the healing process. Losing ones hair can be devastating to anyone, especially a child. The use of a wig can make a big difference in ones self image. Hair Stylist Barbara Adkins says that she has done two hair cuts this month already for customers intending to donate their locks to Locks of Love, and has done many over her career as a stylist.

Great job Madison.
Our children and many of our friends have done the same. Gift giving, there's nothing better. Especially when it's something from you personally and not purchased!
My granddaughter has donated her hair to locks of love. It is the most unselfish thing she had done up to that point in her life. She was 10 at the time.
