Question of the Day, Thur 5/8

Would you buy/lease a Chrysler for some free gas?

Please read the article below. Here's the most important paragraph:

"He (Chrysler LLC Chairman & executive Bob Nardelli) also announced a three-year, $2.99-a-gallon gasoline price guarantee for people who buy or lease new vehicles between Wednesday and June 2. The offer is based on 12,000 miles of driving per year at the vehicle's rated fuel economy. Buyers will get a card for buying gas that is linked to the customer's own charge account, Chrysler said Monday evening. The customer will be billed $2.99 a gallon, and Chrysler will pay the rest."

Even after announcing 11,000 job cuts last November, how are they able to this? Didn't the Delaware plant close last year?

Desperate acts by desperate people.Chrysler and Ford are done.GM may hang on because of global strength, but will be weakened. If you can't already see it,be warned. Our world is about to change in ways we would not have believed ten years ago.In many ways, the U.S. is like an American auto company in the 1970's.

I wish American cars were actually built in America!!!! We have a Chrysler that was proudly built in Mexico (and it shows) while my neighbor has a Honda and Toyota built in in US. Go figure.

The Big Three are desperately grasping for straws. They are drowning in debt and had they stayed competitive in the fuel economy and dependability side of things, they would not be about to go under. The few cars they DO make here in the US are put together by people making more money than doctors, thanks to the UAW.Its pathetic to see some local "Big 3" dealerships practically giving away oversized trucks and SUV's in a desperate attempt to sell them. They are 25 yrs behind in this game.Too late to catch up now!
