Sam's Club Goes NY Style

Over the many years I lived and visited NYC, one of the highlights was going to a Nathan's Hot Dog Stand/Store and get the world greatest Hot Dog. A Nathan's Hot Dog and a ice cold Draft Beer was always the bomb!

Today I stopped into Sam's for a drink and a Hot Dog and was surprised when they informed me they had changed brands of Hot Dogs, "let us know what you think Joe?" I asked, what brand are they? They replied, NATHAN'S!

So for $1.81 you can get a monster sized Hot Dog and a monster sized drink and more importantly, a great Nathan's Hot Dog. Don't all go lining up to buy them because I need my regular fix!

If you really know what a NY hotdog is it's a SABRETT hotdog. You have just been going to the wrong stands. A foot long Sabrett hotdog with the skin, with raw onions, and chili, now thats a REAL NYC hotdog

Hey Joe. I gotta agree with you with this one. I will say this. If you ever get a chance to go to Baltimore, there is a little on Eastern Avenue in Highlandtown called "G & A" who sells tremendous hot dogs. In my opinion, much better then the nathans. Im a big time nathans fan, but you should try G&A. Let me know

I don't care where you go, a Nathan's Hot Dog and a drink for $1.81 including tax is a deal.

Sometimes it's the atmosphere that helps make something so good, like being in NY and having a $5.00 Nathan's there, if you know what I mean?

All too often we see Pizza Shops saying real New York Style Pizza. PLLLLLEASE! There's NOTHING around like a New York Pizza.

A met a friend at the Civic Center today where he ordered two hot dogs and a drink, $7.00! It would take THREE of those mini sized sysco hot dogs to match the one Nathan's hot dogs at Sams and he got a 10 or 12 oz drink.

I think the deal at Sam's is unbelievable and I'm simply trying to offer a service to all of you by letting you know what you get for the money at Sam's Club.

I'm sure there's better, like in Baltimore and or NYC. However, we're in Salisbury and we have to accept what we have right here. I'm not driving to Baltimore or New York for a Hot Dog, are you? However, when I'm there I'll certainly give the G&A a try.

Great news Joe! Being an old Long Islander myself, I ate Nathan's hot dogs through my young years while at Coney Island each summer. Your right, there isn't much to compare to a Nathan's, whether here or in NY.

I'm sorry. Real NY'ers eat SABRETT's.

Thanks Joe, you are certainly a real public servant, and multi faceted to boot.

If you want atmosphere, the next time you are in Nanticoke, there is a little trailer parked next to Wades garage that sells (Nathans I believe) the best frigging hot dogs I ever put my lips around. I have never even been a real hot dog fan but these.... let me tell ya!!!!

Now, a real hotdog in Salisbury and Fruitland comes from Flannery's. The best in the area. He is in Fruitland now (the old circle bar)on Camden ave and will top it with homemade chili, onions , or the works. Real kraut too. I miss them at lowes. Lets start a campaign to get them back at Lowes. I loved it to stop and grab a great hotdog... Visit them in Fruitland and tell Chef Stewart you saw it on the blog...

Thanks Joe for the Public Service Announcement!
BTW You can get Nathans at TCBY (drive-thru, too!) 2 for $2.50. I haven't had a chance to try Sabrett, but I am a hot dog afficianado, and would rather have a good hot dog than a steak!
Thanks again for keeping us updated on the important things in SBY, and the not-so-important things.

If you can buy Nathan's at the Sam's Club counter, can you buy packs at Walmart?

The Walmart on Military Highway in Norfolk sells various packs of Nathan's. I buy the 24 pack so I have plenty at home. Come military payday (1st and 15th), the Navy guys usually wipe them out.

If you can't buy Nathan's, ask your Walmart management. We get them here.

Two words............ Papaya King! Go to NYC and go there. You won't ever regret or forget it.

Both of the Wal*Mart stores in Salisbury have Nathan's Hot Dogs in the meat case.

Point of clarification--the Nathan's hot dogs of today are not the same as the ones I ate as a kid 50 years ago. Those were made by Sabrett's! I do not know who is making Nathan's today, but they do not taste the same to me as the did when I was a kid and went to Coney Island for a dog. I don't necessarily agree with anon 3:09 as to what to put on it, but I do agree Sabrett's is the true Nathan's dog. And skip the sissy "deli" mustard--go for the good old French's yellow!
