The majority of things inside were completely removed. Why fill up our Landfills when we can burn what will be wasted anyway? The other advantage is the necessary practice each Fire Department needs to train their Volunteers. This is why they call is a controlled burn. It's safe and works out as a positive thing for all involved.
Think of all the equipment and resources it would have taken to tear it down and transpost it to a Landfill as well.
Great pictures Joe! We got there too late to see much but it was pretty cool even after it burned to the ground. I guess when it was commented that if we "wanted to see the silo fall we would be waiting till tomorrow" wasn't far off, eh?

Wow great pics Joe- Thanks for sharing !!
Why burn it instead of just tearing it down?

Instead it can just go up into the atmosphere. It looks like there's a lot of scrap metal that could have been recycled there as well.
When you said "controlled burn", I assumed you meant a burn of a natural (i.e., to mimic pre-developed conditions).
