There is a difference between a NEW firetruck and a well designed firetruck. Firetrucks are designed or specified by fire department to meet the needs of their area. i.e.motor and pump size as well as compartmentation. Two of the most important are the electrical and weight distribution ratios. Some of the biggest blunders that are made with taxpayer dollars are of the lot vehicle purchases. It looks good and we need a truck. When you put it to work, you find out the motor is under powered to haul the load. The brakes and chassis are insufficient and the wires are constantly shorting out. Not to mention that your tools are hanging all over the outside, dur to lack of space. Take the time and specify a firetruck that meets your needs from a reputable dealer. The taxpayers will thank you and your reputation will remain in tact.

When you buy a used ladder truck, all you get is someone else problems. NO DEPT sells a good ladder truck!
Dude seriously please stop bashing the fire depts. look at all the new sherrifs vehicles as well as all the new equipment, not to say they don't deserve them. However how many early 1980s vehicles do they have. get over it the truck es worn out period.

Bryan Records seems to be smart about the matter. Thanks Joe, for publishing his thoughts. It demonstrates you can be fair. However, anyone CAN become an expert, if she/he devotes the time to study the subject. I believe the question Joe has raised is this: Did SBY FD spend more than necessary on the recent purchase? Yes or no. Can someone give us the straight answer without becoming defensive? How shall we know when we have heard an acurate answer? Someone should speak authoritatively without becoming "touchy - feely" about the Fire Department. Thank you.
