Former Jury Commissioner Of Wicomico County Circuit Court Convicted
Dec. 7, 2004 Gay E. Hommel, 41, of Salisbury, the former jury commissioner of the Wicomico County Circuit Court, was convicted in that court of stealing more than $143,000 when she filled the court post. Hommel pleaded guilty to theft, and also admitted guilt to two counts of perjury and three counts of filing false state income tax returns between 1999 and 2003, when her scheme was discovered by her supervisor and she was fired.
Corruption in Wicomico County is nothing new. Should checks and balances have been in place long ago? I will be producing more information today about other forms of corruption recently in Wicomico County and it looks to me like the entire county needs an enema.

No, actually the crime was uncovered by her subordinate and brought to the attention of her superior.
They are many honest and qualified employees working for Wicomico County,just not enough qualified leaders.
jJoe, it is interesting that you chose to revisit Ms Hommel's felony theft from the people of Wicomico County. I would strongly encourage you to sick your "Crack Investigative Detectives",on the history of her crime and how it mirror's what happend at the land fill.
Inquiring minds want to know;
1-What sentence did she receive for stealing over $140.000 dollars.
2-How was she able to get away with the theft for so long,without it being detected by Wicomico County Finance Office.
3-Is she related to anyone who is or was and elected official in Wicomico County?
Joe, I am telling you and all your readers if Rick Pollit does not get a handle on this county it will make Berryville look like the best run government in the whole freaking world.

Are the same people responsible for overseeing all county department's the same ones Rick gave a special salary increase this year.
Is so I would argue they do not deserve what they were getting and especially did not deserve more.

Have you figured out who she is related to yet and why her short sentence was served in the county jail instead of across the bridge? He doesn't want special treatment but his relatives get it.
I think it's time for either the State or FED's if not both come to town and do a complete and thorough audit of every department in both the city and the county.
Without such accountability these wounds may never heal! It's obvious the taxpayers are being robbed and it's been going on for some time now. It's time to cut the crap and get into the books and get some honest, biased answers.

I looked the Gay Hommel case up on the MD Court website. It is unbelievable that she had 151 charges against her and she spent less than 1 year in jail. Sure, she has children and it was her first offense. There is NO excuse for her not spending at least 5 years in jail. Just look at how many Theft charges are listed. She was very deliberate about what she did.
I remember following the case in the Daily Fishwrapper and can't believe how quickly it was forgotten about. Could be an indication of how "Dumpstergate" will be handled or will the uproar over this be too much?
My daugher was on this woman's squad, and we were very concerned. I am actually suprised that they didn't catch her sooner.
She only got 18 months 1st time because she was quick to purchase a home in her daughter's name in Delmar and move (HIDE) all of her furnishings and valuables etc to this location- someone tipped her off that her home on Riverside was about to be raided.. she had it cleaned out just in time. She also lied about employment regarding her work release- she didn't have a JOB she stayed M-f at her parents home who are both retired and answered the phone... Those are facts....
Now she has again been arrested for stealing from her non-profit cheerleading squad, Eastern Elite, that she wasw in charge of a few years ago. Wow!
