WCDC Staff Wants A HUGE Raise!

While Sgt. Anthony Dickerson stood in front of the Council during the public input portion, (not the place to introduce a department raise) on PAC14, he stated his Staff currently makes $28,000.00 a year and want an increase to $36,000.00 a year!

They're NOW claiming Worcester County is paid $10,000.00 more per year that Wicomico County. Not for nothing Mr. Dickerson but I say, apply in Worcester County and see if they'll hire you?

All too much lately, Department Heads are confronting the Council asking for pay increases. The Sheriff's Department, The Salisbury City Police, the Fire Department and now the Detention Center? I can't say as I blame them for ASKING but it seems to me they weren't complaining when they applied for the job, what's your bitch now?

I have seen names of Officers fired from their positions as Police Officers now working in the WCDC, they don't deserve the same pay as Officers on the street. Oh, I know, now I'm going to hear it because men and women locked up in cells are more dangerous that what Officers deal with on the streets! PLEASE! If the Detention Center did a better job, they'd be on to those people in there making shanks! They'd RECOGNIZE that their own name plate is missing OFF THEIR DOOR or on their desk and do a search. Then again, that's why they're no longer Police Officers too!

Rick Pollitt should simply say, You don't like your job, LEAVE! Have the WCSO cover for ANY individual who walks out the door until they are replaced and trust me, those jobs are great paying jobs for the Eastern Shore and they will be filled fast! My personal opinion is, they were stupid for confronting the Council like they did. They should have made an appointment and discussed it with the proper people. Like I said, if I were Rick I'd tell them to take a walk just for pulling that kind of move.

It's about time this Administration grows a pair and started fighting back while all these pampered pansie asses keep stepping up and asking for more while the Governor keeps giving less. Just my opinion. It doesn't mean I'm right. That's just how I feel about this situation at the moment and believe me, you've never seen a bigger set of cry babies than groups like this who THINK they're Law Enforcement, they BELIEVE their job is actually tougher in minimum security and when they don't get their way they act like the world is coming to an and. If WalMart pays more money, go apply there.

If it's good for the WCSD it's good for WCDC. heck let's give every county employee the same thing that the WCSD is asking for. The men at the transfer stations probably could use more money and a fat retirement let's not leave them out. Don't forget the dog catchers....

I want the job at the landfill where the guy sits in a bull dozer and re-arranges peoples yard trimmings. Every time I'm there he's hanging out, driving his bulldozer around, or talking to someone, sweet freaking hot-pants what a job to have.

Joe you are correct on this matter. There are proper channels to persue this matter in the local government.Starting with the HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD, then up the Chain of Command. Many of them just received a 3-5 thousand dollar raise if not more for higher rankings. Its my opinion their discontent and unhappiness starts from the top leadership.Their jobs are as important as any public safety job. However they are in a lot less dangerous position working in there than a policeman making a routine traffic stop, patroling the streets, domestic calls, etc.I would also say to Sgt.Derickson, ask your HeadofHousehold for permission to speak to Mr. Pollitt and go from there.I also want to wish you luck in keeping your position now that you have made a public appearance before the council.

So Joe, how do your comments against the guards request square with your support of the FOP and what they want. Oh! by the way what do they want? No one seems interested in answering that question.
If just ONE investigative reported or blogger would look into what they want, and how much it would cost, I suspect this whole issue would be seen in and entire new light.

$28,000 a year...Now ask yourself can YOU raise a family and keep a roof over their head at $28,000 a year. I don't think so, of course you knew the pay when you applied for the job. could this be the reason that the quality of employee is so steller? WSO has their hands full, Mike is not god and cannot solve all of our problems with his force, he has his job to do also. But $28,000 a year, is a insult to any person working and trying to raise a family, correctly.

He wasn't comparing a raise to police agencies, but to surrounding correctional agencies, which on average do make 8-10k more a year. He spoke of turnover rates.. how many people are leaving to go to other agencies. If you read between the lines.. this means that that most people will go somewhere else before appling to WCDC and then will quickly leave as soon as they get a chance... which means massive understaffing, which can lead to the sorts of things that WCDC seems to be notorious for. I may be mistaken, but don't most agencies have a policy about what staff can say about the institution? That would mean Mr. Dickerson may be limited in what he could talk about and was using the money issue as a way to draw attention. I agree that maybe instead of hasty judgements, perhaps someone should try for a one on one talk and find out what is really going on in the detention center. I mean the picture is painted. Understaffing, shanks being made, and officers so deperate to talk they are going to the county council. Seems more like a cry for help. Wonder why he didn't go to his boss? Makes you wonder?

Anonymous 9:01 again for the third time in two weeks I have asked why dont you find out what the retirement and disability for the deputies is and post it. That will enlighten some people as to how bad it is.

Have you had any dealings with Deveyns? The morale in the jail is falling apart just like the morale of the city employees.

Replace WCDC walk-offs with members of the Sheriff's Department? I'd truly enjoy watching that fiasco. Without any intention of showing Police Officers any disrespect, they are not trained to deal with inmates 8-12 hours a day. I remind everyone of the Boot Camp fiasco. What makes you think anything different would happen in a jail setting? You would end up with every police officer working inside WCDC facing multiple law suits. So, you'd wind up short-handed not only at WCDC, but even shorter-handed on the county police force. Get a grip, people. Police or Corrections, these officers put their lives on the line to keep you and your families safe. They deserve an annual salary they can live on.

Anonymous 8:09 is quite correct when asking if anyone has ever dealth with 3D. The man double-talks, flat out lies, and makes grand promises he cannot keep and has no intention of keeping. Dealing with 3D is like dealing with any greasy, slimy politician.

Listen to the message Mr. Dickerson carried to Grumpy, Dopey and the rest, not the way the message was delivered. Those who pay more attention to HOW it was delivered are merely showing their asses in two parts.
