The City Of Salisbury Fire Department Asks For Donations In Hebron District

"Hey Joe,

I got a SFD donation request envelope the other day and it ended up in the circular file. I am NOT in Salisburys EMS response area, I am in Hebrons. They can't even get the areas straight. I'm glad I'm in Hebrons area, they come down the street as a group and leave the envelopes. They will even talk to you if you're home and they're nice to the kids. I have nothing against SFD, but come on! Why in the world would you try to solicit donations from a house you're not jurisdictionally able to respond to? These folks that don't know better will donate, think that they are covered for EMS and then when Hebron responds (which they certainly will) you are slapped with a fee because you haven't joined (I still don't get this whole pay in advance EMS thing, but I'm a city girl). Just wanted to give you that tidbit of info. Merry Christmas to you and yours."

UNBELIEVABLE! You guys have balls!

Salisbury didn't even respond to the Culver fire IN THEIR JURISDICTION!

The fund drive is handled by an outside fundraising company. This type thing has happened before. The above person may live just outside Hebron with a Salisbury address. You would be suprised at some of the funny addresses in the county.

I live in Salisbury and WILL NOT be donating this year Joe. I do not like the way the Fire Department responds on this blog.

The Culver Fire WAS NOT in SFD District. Check the facts with some who knows. Not JJ

thats fine if you choose not to donate its your choice ,but you are probably one of the few who will complain when the fire dept has a lack of funding and doesnt have the right equipment or funds to respond when you are hurt or your house is on fire.

Louise Smith ran on a platform to get raises for both the police and the fire rescue. She sided with giving the fire/EMS a token, if she can't hold up her end of the obligation way should I? It is the mayor that took the election personal and excluded the fire/rescue people during raise time.

The 14% tax hike should provide enough money for all city workers to get cost of living and pay parity. When the city starts spending my money responsibly, I will again continue to contribute, however, not until that time comes.

Yeah, and lets bring in Home Land Security because they're going to blow up chicken houses and river front businesses and homes before they go after Washington, DC!

GTFOH! People will stop donating and guess what, the draw back will come out of the taxpayers pockets whereas YOU will have to finally be accountable to what you buy with that money. Looks like a WIN/WIN situation to me and the reason some of you are upset is because you've covered up your spending for far too many years now/

It's about ACCOUNTABILITY form here on out guys. Get used to it.

Go right ahead and dont donate. It will be an excuse to raise taxes again. Youre only hurting yourselves. I dont really care either way!

ROTFLMAO!!! More scare tactics. Lack of funding??? Can you say $10 million for a fire house. That is probably the most expensive fire house in the entire nation. Especially for a city and department this size. They is your lack of funding you stupid idiot. You should have had the balls to speak out on this project if you are worried about a lack of funding. IDIOT!!!

That's Scary! The above comment sounded way too much like me! You should start your own Blog and help the cause! LOL

In the big picture, it really doesnt matter if people contribute or not. Its not like SFD is independant from the city, like other area depts, and responsible for their own funding. FOB's will make up for any shortfalls.

Hmm, I lived in Salisbury for over 30 years. I always got service and good service and never paid a dime in donations.... They always seem to have money to purhcase what they wanted. At 14% increase I would donate money to impeach the mayor or hire a hitman....LOL!

I know you don't care, Chief, you live in Delaware. People are demanding ACCOUNTABLILITY. It has become obvious that the leadership of the Salisbury Fire Departmet can provide neither. It's time for See, Gordy, Hoppes, and their cronies to go.

I will not be donating and the fire dept comments will not intimidate me. If my home burns to the ground, thats what insurance is for. Its usually a total loss when its over anyway. My uncle was fire chief for many years and would roll over in his grave, for some of the comments fire men have made towards anyones family. I have lost ALL respect for these people. You should be ashamed of yourselfs.

Neither one of these guys are actually city residents and they get all the fringe benifits such as take home cars and free gas at $3 a gallon. Must be nice!! The citizens demand the release of these criminals now.

When the volunteers control their own money like they used to then and only then will return to giving donations to the fire department. As long as Barrie Tilghman holds the purse strings to SVFD I will hold the purse strings on my donations closed.
