Melanie Pepper Receives 2008 Jefferson Award

On Thanksgiving morning Melanie Pepper got a big surprise when WBOC TV greeted her at her parent's home in Salisbury.

Melanie and WBOC TV Anchor Jimmy Hoppa

Nominated by her sister Sheila, Melanie was recognized as a 2008 recipient of the prestigious Jefferson award by the American Institute for Public Service for her contributions to the community.

As one of 16 recipients on Delmarva, Melanie will be honored at a Gala banquet in April and is now in consideration to represent the region in Washington DC next summer.

Congratulations Melanie!

The Jefferson Award was first created in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to create a Nobel Prize for public and community service. To learn more about the Jefferson Awards visit their website HERE.

This morning's visit with Melanie will be aired on WBOC TV sometime in January.

It was quite a surprise and an honor. It's been a pleasure to serve Salisbury and Wicomico County for many years.

Im looking forward to running this weekend's Christmas parade for Salisbury.

I hope that a collaborative effort can bring back 4th of July to Salisbury and as a past event chair, I am happy to offer insight, ideas, suggestions etc...

Im a few miles away now.in St. Marys County BUT Salisbury will always be home...and in my heart.

Thanks to all and have a blessed Holiday Season.
