Fired Calif. Nanny Who Wouldn't Leave Disappears

Marcella Bracamonte told ABC News that 64-year-old Diane Stretton left the home in Upland, San Bernardino County, on Thursday morning and hasn't returned. She left behind her belongings.
"I don't know what happened," Bracamonte said.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Gov. Paul LePage wants to limit state welfare benefits to only those residents living in Maine legally, a move that could force municipalities to drop some recipients or risk losing government funds.
But opponents say the Republican would be pitting have-nots against other have-nots in the state and feeding into a fear of immigrants. Meanwhile, some politicians complain that LePage can't change welfare laws without legislative approval and that he's grandstanding during an election year.
"He's putting people who are having difficult economic times against one another and trying to make them feel like they need to battle it out," said Zach Heiden, legal director for the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine.

$50 Flat Fee Parking All Day in Inlet Lot on July 4th
(June 25, 2014) -The Town of Ocean City is making a change to parking operations in the Inlet Parking Lot on Friday, July 4, by charging a $50 flat-fee for all day parking. The fee, which is good for one-entry, will allow visitors to come as early as 5 a.m. and stay as late as midnight, without being charged an hourly parking rate. In addition, a late entry fee will be permitted based on availability at 3 p.m. for a fee of $30, also allowing one-entry only.
Visitors who utilize the flat-free option will be issued a window pass and directed to park by assisting parking attendants. Once the lot fills, visitors will be encouraged to use neighboring parking lots, including Worcester Street, Somerset Street, Dorchester Street, North Division Street, 4th Street and the West Ocean City Park & Ride.

Also Monday night, Senate Republicans used their newfound majority to reorganize the chamber, seizing chairmanships of all committees. That matters because committee chairmen are gatekeepers who have important sway over which legislation makes it to the floor.

Delaware River Aircraft Incident
New Castle-Troopers are responding to a small single engine aircraft down in the Delaware River reported in the area between Fort Delaware State Park and Fort Mott State Park.
At approximately 10:46 a.m. the NCC Air Traffic Control Tower located at the New Castle County Airport reported that they had lost contact with a small single engine aircraft.
The aircraft was located in the Delaware River in the area between Fort Delaware State Park and Fort Mott State Park, NJ with the occupants observed near the aircraft in the water.
Currently Delaware State Police Helicopter Trooper 4 is operating at the scene attempting to hoist the occupants from the water.
This investigation is in its early stages and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

In 2011, when President Obama declared that the Iraq war finally was over, Paul introduced an amendment to a defense authorization bill that would have formally ended the war by canceling congressional authorization for it. His goal was to prevent President Obama from invoking prior authorization to commit troops to combat.

Carla McFarland said she went to Sonic on Guilford Drive on Wednesday with her 6-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son after a trip to the library and a morning spent packing boxes. After passing chicken strips and fries to her children, McFarland, 35, reached into the bag for her own food and found a small plastic bag containing what appeared to be marijuana in a third container holding her own fries.

Whistleblower claims Phoenix hospital changed veterans' records
An employee at a veterans' affairs hospital in Arizona has come forward - and claimed that veterans' records were intentionally falsified and their medical requests hidden.
Whistle-blower Pauline DeWenter, an appointment scheduler at the Phoenix VA, said in anexclusive interview with CNN she would note on records if veterans died before they could receive treatment.
However, she said someone had changed dead veterans' records seven times, if not more, to make it seem they were alive.
