Boehner Tells Republicans He Won’t Let the Nation Default

With a budget deal still elusive and a deadline approaching on raising the debt ceiling, Speaker John A. Boehner has told colleagues that he is determined to prevent a federal default and is willing to pass a measure through a combination of Republican and Democratic votes, according to multiple House Republicans.

One lawmaker, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Mr. Boehner had indicated he would be willing to violate the so-called Hastert Rule if necessary to pass a debt-limit increase. The informal rule refers to a policy of not bringing to the floor any measure that does not have a majority of Republican votes.

Open WWII Memorial Or Be Sued, Obama Told

A team of legal experts is telling President Obama something he probably wasn’t counting on when the White House, as reported by Rep. Steven Palazzo, R-Miss., decided to try to block veterans from visiting the World War II memorial in Washington.

“With due respect, Mr. President, we demand: First, that the World War II memorial be reopened immediately for all veterans, their families, and the public to honor and recognize the courage and achievement of those who fought to keep us free; Second, that the memorial be opened once again for First Amendment expressive activity by all members of the public; Third, that the barricades be taken down and removed forthwith; and Fourth, that you issue a personal apology on behalf of your administration to the veterans and their families who have been affected by the current closure.”

No Retreat, No Surrender

Republicans know they must avoid looking weak in the shutdown fight.

Republicans have partially planned and partially blundered into a government shutdown, and they appear to have no clear exit strategy. For now, many of them think it has become a test of their manhood. If they blink and pass a “clean” spending bill, they will lose face and enter talks over the looming mid-October debt-ceiling fight in a weakened position.

“We’re not going to be disrespected,” Representative Marlin Stutzman, an Indiana Republican, told the Washington Examiner. “We have to get something out of this. And I don’t know what that even is.” That kind of thinking doesn’t inspire confidence.

Timing is everything. For now, Republicans are holding together, but in about a week the financial markets are likely to go down, putting immense pressure on Republicans to abandon the shutdown fight. In 2011, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by more than 15 percent over a three-week period during that fall’s budget and debt-ceiling fight.

Have We Reached Peak Government?

If we are not yet at Peak Debt, we are getting close, and that means we are also getting close to Peak Government.

Have we reached Peak Government? That is, a structural point beyond which government can no longer grow sustainably?

To help answer the question, I've assembled charts of the foundations of growth: population, gross domestic product (GDP), private employment and output per person (i.e. productivity). These have grown 28%, 75%, 28% and 58% respectively. (I have used 1990 as a baseline, as the past 23 years gives us a reasonably accurate clue as to the long-term trendlines of the current economy.)

In other words, if growth depended entirely on population growth, the real (inflation-adjusted) economy would have grown 28% since 1990. Instead, the GDP rose by 57%. This is the result of rising output per person, i.e. an increase in productivity.

SOMETHING LIFE-CHANGING HAPPENED TO AN 87-YEAR-OLD VETERAN AT THE WWII MEMORIAL

Most stories that come out of Washington, D.C. are about politics. This one is not.

On Wednesday, 87-year-old Army veteran Nick Kennedy stormed the barricaded World War II Memorial with the aim of reflecting on his time during the great war.

The World War II veteran intended to pay his respects to friends who perished in battle and look back at the sacrifices Americans made during the war.

Oath Keepers Is Going "Operational"

Forming Special "Civilization Preservation" Teams
Oath Keepers is instructing it's 30,000 members nation-wide to form up special teams and sub-teams in each Oath Keepers chapter, at the town and county level, modeled loosely on the Special Forces "A Team" (Operational Detachment A ) model, and for a similar purpose: to be both a potential operational unit for community security and support during crisis, but also, as mission #1, to serve as training and leadership cadre, to assist in organizing neighborhood watches, organizing veterans halls to provide community civil defense, forming County Sheriff Posses, strengthening existing CERT, volunteer fire, search-and-rescue, reserve deputy systems, etc., and eventually to assist in forming and training town and county militias (established by official act of town and county elected representatives). We want our chapters to organize themselves as a working model that we can then take to other veterans organizations, such as the VFW, American Legion, Marine Corps League, etc. in each town and help them establish such teams within their already existing veterans halls. And likewise, to serve as a model and training cadre to help churches, neighborhood watches, and any other civic organization organize.

We are basing this on the Special Forces model, which has a twelve man "A team" of specially trained soldiers who are inserted into a community to train and lead that community in resistance to oppressive regimes (hence their motto: "De Oppresso Liber). SF's primary mission is to teach, organize, and lead, rather than to directly fight. They can fight, of course, but they are most dangerous as a force-multiplier by helping an entire community to fight. We will do the same - be force multipliers to help prepare communities so they can preserve civilization by providing their own security, disaster relief, infrastructure preservation, emergency communications, strategic food reserve, and medical care.

In an SF team, there are:

Two communications experts
.
Two Medics
.
Two Combat Engineers
(who can do more than demolitions. They can also build bridges, dig wells, install water-treatment, irrigation systems, etc. ).

Two weapons experts
.
An Operations NCO
.
An Assistant Operations NCO
who also does intelligence.
A commanding officer, and his assistant commanding officer
.Each SF soldier is first trained to be light infantry. They all go through Army Basic Training, Advanced Individual Training (AIT)(usually at the Infantry School at Ft. Benning), Airborne School, and then the SF Selection course, where they learn land navigation (including a difficult timed night land-nav course), wilderness survival (including a graded field "survival" exercise), and patrolling (including reconnaissance, ambushes, raids, reacting to ambush, movement to contact, etc), along with a timed ruck march, obstacle course, rappelling out of helicopters, and hand-to-hand. And then they learn their specialty of one of the above - medic, commo, engineer, weapons, etc. Then they put it all together in a field training final phase where they are dropped into the fictitious country of "Pineland" (in the mountains and forests of North Carolina) and have to teach and lead the indigenous people (played by other recruits waiting to enter the training) in irregular warfare against the enemy.
Then, once they graduate and make it to Group, they all cross train, each specialized team of two training the others so they are all pretty good at all tasks, but experts within their chosen specialty. They bring each-other up to a high standard of capability. And by having two of each specialty, they have redundancy (two is one, and one is none) and the ability to split into two teams of six if needed. They can function as a very capable fighting squad if they need to, but their primary mission is to train and lead others in irregular warfare.

Oath Keepers is using that successful model and adapting it to our mission, to form Oath Keepers "Civilization Preservation Teams" (we have already received critical input from some of our Special Forces members, and are actively seeking more input from others within the Special Forces community)

IRS Scandal - President Obama Loses Chris Matthews

OBAMA: FALSE HOPE, FALSE MESSIAH

If You Aren't Essential, Why Are We Paying You?

If nothing so focuses the mind as the prospect of being hanged in the morning, then being declared non-essential in a government shutdown must do the same thing for federal bureaucrats.

The horror of the "non-essential" label was so great in fact that the Office of Personnel Management, which manages the 2.1 million member federal workforce, stopped using the term a few years ago. Now the official terms are "excepted" and "non-excepted."

But "essential" and "non-essential" more precisely capture the essence of the process for how officials decide which government workers must report to work during a shutdown because America cannot do without their

Obamacare Is Another Private Sector Rip-Off Of Americans

The government of the “world’s only superpower,” the “exceptional,” the “indispensable” country, claims to know what is best for Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia, Mali, Russia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Brazil, China, indeed for the entire world. However, the “indispensable” country cannot even govern itself, much less the world over which the “superpower” desires hegemony. The government of the “world’s only superpower” has shut itself down.
Image: Obamacare rip-off.

The government has shut itself down, because it cannot deal with the budget deficit and mounting public debt caused by twelve years of wars, by financial deregulation that allows “banks too big to fail” to loot the taxpayers, and by the loss of jobs, GDP, and tax base that jobs offshoring forced by Wall Street caused.

The Republicans are using the fight over the limit on new public debt to block Obamacare. The Republicans are right to oppose Obamacare, but they are opposing Obamacare largely for ideological reasons when there are very good sound reasons to oppose Obamacare.

Government Shutdown? 36 Facts Which Prove That Almost Everything Is Still Running

All of this whining and crying about a “government shutdown” is a total joke. You see, there really is very little reason why this “government shutdown” cannot continue indefinitely because almost everything is still running. 63 percent of all federal workers are still working, and 85 percent of all government activities are still being funded during this “shutdown”. Yes, the Obama administration has been making a big show of taking down government websites and blocking off the World War II Memorial, but overall business in Washington D.C. is being conducted pretty much as usual.
Image: Government shut down.

It turns out that the definition of “essential personnel” has expanded so much over the years that almost everyone is considered “essential” at this point. In fact, this shutdown is such a non-event that even referring to it as a “partial government shutdown” would really be overstating what is actually happening. The following are 36 facts which prove that almost everything is still running during this government shutdown…

#1 According to U.S. Senator Rand Paul, 85 percent of all government activities are actually being funded during this “government shutdown”.

Three Years Later, TheTeaParty.net Finally Gets IRS Tax-Exempt OK

One of the groups at the center of the IRS scandal has finally received its tax-exempt status after a three-year delay prompted by a politically driven move to block Tea Party and other conservative groups, many that slammed the president during his re-election, from winning the special status.

TheTeaParty.net, one of the nation's largest Tea Party groups, told Secrets that the long-sought declaration arrived Monday, well over three years after they applied for 501c(4) tax-exempt status in March of 2010, the start of the Tea Party movement. The notice came in a letter from the IRS.

The group said it endured harassment by agents targeting mostly conservative non-profit groups for their political donors, agenda and even reading lists, all against the rules. Those agents were headed by the recently retired Lois Lerner.

A Message From Daniel Bongino

Why is the administration and their congressional allies making the government slowdown even more painful for you?

The facts:
Our national monuments have never been barricaded before through numerous government shutdowns. Having been behind the scenes during my time within the White House walls, I am sure this was a political calculation that was solely designed to hurt the American people. Barricades cost money to move and install and are completely unnecessary, but they do serve a purpose. They make for wonderful press photos and serve as visual reminders of what you cannot do and where you cannot go. To sum up; insider politicos are spending your money, in a time of fiscal crisis, to buy barricades to keep you away from your monuments.

Even worse, there are national parks across the country which accept NO federal funds, and are maintained by private entities, who are being ordered to shut down to the public. Incredibly, the private operators are being ordered to spend their own money to purchase barriers to keep the public out of their own parks.

Folks, no one wants a government shutdown but I implore you to please be skeptical of media reports of the administration's benevolence in this. They have refused to budge an inch on even the most modest #Obamacare reforms, the President has publicly stated that he "will not negotiate" and Senate Dems have compared their opposition to terrorists.

I simply cannot accept the fact that this is the best we can do. It's not their country, it's ours and we deserve better.

CHRIS MATTHEWS SAYS OBAMA HAS FINALLY MET HIS MATCH – AND YOU WON’T BELIEVE WHICH ‘BRILLIANT’ LAWMAKER HE CITED

MSNBC host Chris Matthews said Tuesday that President Obama has finally met his match in Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

Yes, the same person he has referred to as a political “terrorist” and compared to notorious Nazi sympathizer Father Coughlin.

Matthews’ comments were made shortly after he referred to the Texas senator’s Obamacare defund strategy as “brilliant.”

“I think Ted Cruz is brilliant,” Matthews said Tuesday morning during a discussion on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“The president has met his match in this guy. He set this thing up months ago with no budget agreement, therefore no appropriations, therefore the government would be completely exposed this morning, at midnight last night, to completely shut down. He knows what he’s doing,” he adds.

The MSNBC host added that one thing in particular made Cruz’s strategy “brilliant”: Going after Obamacare.

“It’s about the baby, Obama’s baby,” Matthews said, referring to President Obama’s landmark health care overhaul. “You can’t cut the baby in half.”

The Quote Of The Decade

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

The Alma Mater

Dear Fr. Jenkins,

Having just returned from an enjoyable 5 days at our beautiful university ( other than the loss to Oklahoma), I was able to learn the reason behind the confusion at the close of the game over the singing of The Alma Mater. According to Coach Kelly's quote, a decision was made two years ago not to sing The Alma Mater after a home loss.

This tradition which was begun under Coach Weis is one of the most beautiful and moving traditions associated with Notre Dame Athletics. Time and again I have listened to non-Domers speak in admiration of this gesture, including many of our visitors from Oklahoma for this game. Even an occasional TV commentator will make such comments when the video stream has continued following the end of the game.

Such a tradition epitomizes the oneness of the student-athletes and the entire student body. While all Domers were upset over the loss, we Domers, especially current students, do not fault our players. We win together and we lose together ( hopefully not very often). The students in the stands Saturday willingly embraced our players and sang to Our Lady as they have done so many times in the past. Domers and members of the Notre Dame Family all around the stadium wrapped arms around each other and sang in unison. This should never be taken away from them, nor from the players.

Coach Kelly may need to be excused for not fully appreciating how uplifting and comforting is our Alma Mater ( even following a loss), as he is not a Domer. You, Fr. Jenkins, and every other Domer certainly do. Singing Notre Dame Our Mother, is just as emotional and moving for me today as it was over 40 years ago when I sang it for the first time. If there were to be only one musical selection following a loss, it should be our Alma Mater. The words are so appropriate.

This is clearly a decision on the field that begs to be overturned and I implore you to do everything in your power to restore this truly exceptional Notre Dame tradition.

Sincerely,
Paul DiGaetano, ND '75

O’Malley Says Maryland Will Consider Tapping Reserve Fund To Deal With Federal Shutdown

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) said Tuesday that the state could try to lessen the impact of a lengthy federal government shutdown by tapping a $100 million fund set up by the legislature to deal with the consequences of the federal sequestration process.

“We have flexibility on how to use these funds, and we’re actively assessing all of our options so that we can minimize the harmful effects of prolonged congressional recklessness on Maryland families and businesses,” O’Malley said in a statement.

Furloughs of federal workers during a government shutdown could cost Maryland $5 million a day in income and sales tax collections, according to an analysis prepared by O’Malley’s budget advisers that became public last week.

Finding Out About Obamacare

There’s a real reform that Congress should have passed — and should still pass.

Nancy Pelosi promised that we would all find out what Obamacare entailed after the billed was passed. Last week I did.

I run a small company with 18 employees on its payroll. We have a health-insurance plan administered by Anthem Blue Cross. Last week, Blue Cross notified us that unless we renewed our plan immediately, accepting an 11.3 percent increase in our rates, we would have to accept the new Obamacare rates, which will go into effect in January 2014. These would entail a 38.2 percent increase.

I don’t like being shaken down like this. But business is business, and an 11 percent hit beats 38 percent, so I took the offer. But that will only postpone the problem. Starting next year, we will have to pay the full burden of the new higher Obamacare health-insurance rates.

ENTIRE State Of Nevada Scores Obamacare Waiver

Nevada got a partial waiver from the health care law - a significant development that Democrats are dismissing as par for the course and Republicans are claiming as a political victory.

The Health and Human Services Department announced late Friday that Nevada had secured a statewide waiver from certain implementation requirements of the Obama administration's health care law, because forcing them through, the department found, "may lead to the destabilization of the individual market."

The announcement makes Nevada one of only three states to have compliance requirements under the health care bill waived.

91% Of The IRS Has Been Furloughed: Here Is Who Else Got The Government Shut Down Axe

For all the drama surrounding today's political drama (which came and went largely unnoticed by a stock market hypnotized by the Federal Reserve), the bottom line is that the key impact of last night's historic government shutdown has been nothing more (or less) than the temporary unpaid leave of absence, i.e. furloughs (with all accrued, owed payments promptly being remitted once the government is unhalted) of some 815,932 civilian government workers, out of a total of 2 million, or a 41% furlough rate.

As the WSJ tabulates [4]"some agencies, such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics, are seeing all but a handful of their employees go home without pay. Others, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security, kept the vast majority of their workers on the job. Certain divisions of government, such as the U.S. Postal Service and the Federal Reserve, don’t operate under the normal appropriations process and their staffing remained unaffected." Then again one wonders: with 91% of the IRS' total 94,516 workers stuck at home, downloading porn, is the government shutdown really such an evil outcome?

The Only Telecom CEO To Refuse NSA Spy Demands Has Been Released

Here’s a really interesting story that many people may not be familiar with. By now, we all know that every single major telecom CEO bent over submissively the minute the NSA came calling for data. Except one. A forgotten man in the entire NSA spy scandal is Joseph Nacchio, former CEO of Qwest, who actually refused to participate in the NSA’s illegal activities when they first propositioned him in 2001. Several years later, he was convicted of insider trading.

Perhaps I’m just a conspiracy theorist, but I find it quite coincidental that a country which lets Jon Corzine off the hook, a country where not a single CEO or executive of a financial institution was indicted with regard to the 2008 crisis, a country where James Clapper lies to Congress about the NSA and face zero repercussions; that in such a country the only major corporate CEO to go to jail for financial crimes is the one that refused to play ball with the NSA.

GM, Toyota, VW Sales Stall In September

DETROIT — Sales fell at General Motors, Toyota and Volkswagen in September, an odd month that appears likely to snap a 27-month streak of gains for the U.S. auto industry.

GM posted an 11 percent decline compared with a year ago as the company even reported falling sales of its redesigned full-size pickup trucks. Pickup truck sales have been a strong point for the industry as small businesses return to dealer showrooms. Volkswagen sales were off 12 percent, while Toyota sales were down 4 percent.

But Ford and Chrysler appeared to have outperformed the industry. Ford sales were up 6 percent, while sales at Chrysler rose 1 percent.

In a startling development in Virginia's race for governor, a just-completed Newsmax/Zogby survey shows Democrat Terry McAuliffe and Republican Ken Cuccinelli in a virtual dead heat.

The new John Zogby poll, conducted for Newsmax among likely Virginia voters from September 27-29, shows McAuliffe, the former Democratic Party national chairman, leading state Attorney General Cuccinelli by a wafer-thin margin of 32.5 percent to 32.4 percent.

According to Zogby, 10.8 percent of voters prefer "another candidate" and a strong 24.3 percent are undecided.

NSA Reportedly Stored Data Of Non-Terror Targets For Up To A Year

Just a few days after it was revealed the National Security Agency was reportedly tracking social network ties, yet another report detailing a secret program for collecting and storing data of users’ online movements has been revealed.

The National Security Administration campus in Fort Meade, Md. (AP)

The Guardian reported that top-secret documents show the agency stored data on even non-targets, contradicting statements by Obama administration officials who’ve said the NSA only keeps information on subjects of interest.

The new program detailed by the Guardian is called Marina. This project collects computer metadata, while phone metadata is stored in a different system, according to the newspaper that began publishing information leaked by admitted whistleblower Edward Snowden about the NSA’s classified programs in June.

Obamacare Being Used To Woo Hispanics To Democratic Party

The Democratic Party is using ObamaCare in an attempt to woo Hispanic voters to their side and keep them as Democratic voters. In California, where Hispanics will outnumber whites next year, the effort being made is substantial. In Richmond, California, near San Francisco, the Hispanic percentage of the population is almost 40%, so those charged with selling ObamaCare to the public are targeting Hispanic voters in the area.
Community group representatives are targeting groceries, farmers’ markets, and job fairs across California. Shanti Jensen, who works for the Fresno-based California Health Collaborative, said she’s attended more than 20 events and spoken with roughly 400 people. California Health Collaborative received $940,000 from Covered California to sell ObamaCare’s virtues to uninsured women.

Today, Obamacare’s October 1 launch date finally arrived. Ever since its passage, supporters of the law have made countless attempts to convince the American people of its viability, dismissing predictions of lost jobs, decreased hours, and rising costs, among others.

Yet from major corporations to local mom-and-pop shops, from entire states to tiny school districts, a wide range of companies and institutions have seen Obamacare’s negative impact on their workers, budgets, and production. Here are 100 examples of how Obamacare is falling short of what was promised.

Six Of One - Obamacare vs. The Affordable Care Act

The Beltway Lies Of The Obamacare War

Pat Buchanan: It's the intransigence of 'Harry and Barry' that is leading to shutdown

“In wartime, truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies,” said Winston Churchill.

What is the truth behind the beltway lies about these crazy Republicans crashing our government?

Twice in the last week House Republicans have voted unanimously to fund the U.S. government.

If national polls are to be believed, those House Republicans are doing exactly what America wants. A majority of Americans oppose a government shutdown. And a majority oppose Obamacare.

Who, then, is preventing the government from being funded?

Harry Reid and Barack Obama. Neither will accept any continuing resolution that does not contain Obamacare. Both will shut down this city rather than accept any such CR.

Gun Laws Went Into Effect Yesterday As MD Restricts Gun Rights and NC Expands Them

Maryland and North Carolina are both neighbors of Virginia but while one state is trying to limit 2nd amendment rights as much as possible another is allowing its citizens to exercise those rights so the criminals are not the only ones with the guns.

Maryland is imposing some of the strictest gun control in the country today, banning many of what they call “assault rifles”, and banning gun magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

HB 937 in North Carolina actually respects the constitutional rights of NC residents and takes away the power from the criminals, while allowing gun owners to protect themselves.

A Round-Up Of The Police State Programs NOT Affected By A Government Shutdown

Like clockwork, we’ve ticked back to the annual government shutdown scare that invariably dominates news headlines and sends stocks seesawing for a few scant weeks until, at the very last moment, the nation is miraculously pulled from the brink of disaster. It’s always an entertaining show, with both Republicans and Democrats doing their best to one-up each other with heartbreaking anecdotes about the millions who will suffer in the event of a government shutdown and showy bravado over the need for greater fiscal stewardship, while conveniently failing to rein in two of the biggest drains on our budget—namely, the military and surveillance industrial complexes.

Image: TSA.

Indeed, while a government shutdown will inevitably impact everything from Head Start, and key welfare services to national museums and IRS audits, the one area not impacted in the least will be the police/surveillance state and its various militarized agencies, spying programs and personnel. Incredibly, although more than 800,000 government workers could find themselves without paychecks or with reduced (or for members of the military, delayed) paychecks, President Obama and Congress will still get paid on time.

Darryl Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Although Issa said his committee hauled Beale, 64, in not to “ridicule” him, but to ensure that the fraud he committed wasn’t being duplicated by other government employees, Beale calmly refused.

Obama: Transforming America

“We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” — Barack Obama, October 30, 2008

“We are going to have to change our conversation; we’re going to have to change our traditions, our history; we’re going to have to move into a different place as a nation.” — Michelle Obama, May 14, 2008

There certainly is no question that Barack Obama wants to change the United States. And there clearly is no doubt that such fundamental transformation is difficult, given our tripartite system of government — even though Obama entered office with large Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress, an enthralled media, and a closely divided Supreme Court.

So to what degree, after nearly five years in office, has Obama succeeded in changing the United States?

Government Shutdown Officials Closes Assateague National Seashore; ‘Significant Impact’ Reported

ASSATEAGUE — With the federal government shutting down at midnight, the impact is already being felt at Assateague Island National Seashore, which is now officially closed until further notice.

When the clock struck midnight without any progress on the impasse over the federal spending plan, driven largely by the divide over Obamacare, the federal government began a shutdown as expected early Tuesday. Federal facilities and offices all over the country are closed today, including Assateague Island National Seashore.

Late Monday, with no deal likely, Assateague Island National Seashore (AINS) officials were already planning for the pending shutdown, informing campers and other visitors they would have to leave and closing the barrier islands many facilities. AINS Chief of Interpretation and Education Rachelle Daigneault said late Monday the island began preparations for closure in advance of the pending shutdown.

I Will Not Comply

Like most members of the Congress that passed it and, undoubtedly, the president of the United States who signed it, I have not read the entirety of the ill-named Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Yet there is one aspect concerning that legislation of which I am certain: I will not comply.
I will not comply because I am a free citizen of the United States, not a subject of its government. I consider non-compliance with this monstrosity and the tens of thousands of pages of regulations that are to be enforced by an unelected bureaucracy, and that have left a gigantic carbon footprint on our environment and the United States Constitution, a duty.
Non-compliance is my executive order, and that order reads in part that I do not recognize any government's claim on my action or inaction in the marketplace, nor upon any personal information I am unwilling to divulge.
I will not submit to a cabal who read George Orwell's 1984 not as a terrifying warning, but as an instruction manual. Nor will I submit to the dictates of those who attempt to trample the right of free speech of others in the halls of government who are warning us about the looming tyranny. I refer to those sons of liberty who, as Camus wrote, "are not all legitimate or to be admired. Those who applaud it only when it justifies their privileges and shout nothing but censorship when it threatens them are not on our side."

Baltimore County Schools Boss Admits Common Core Disaster

Throughout the first month of the school year, Baltimore County elementary school teachers have experienced a host of frustrating problems in their attempts to access the school language arts portion of the statewide curriculum, reports The Baltimore Sun.

Problems arose in August when district administrators foisted a glitch-filled computerized version of the curriculum onto teachers just before the school year began.

The Fraudsters Of DC

As I write this, it appears that the federal government is about to shut down because the House and Senate cannot agree on whether to add language defunding or delaying Obamacare to the “Continuing Resolution”. Despite all the hand-wringing heard in DC, a short-term government shut down (which doesn’t actually shut down the government) will not cause the country to collapse.

And the American people would benefit if Obamacare was defeated or even delayed.

Obamacare saddles the American health care system with new spending and mandates which will raise the price and lower the quality of health care. Denying funds to this program may give Congress time to replace this bill with free-market reforms that put patients andphysicians back in charge of health care. Defunding the bill before it becomes implemented can spare the American people from falling under the worst effects of this law.

Obamacare To Fund Abortions For Congress

Members of Congress and their staff members will be allowed to buy health plans on Obamacare health exchanges that pay for abortions, even though most of their premiums are picked up by the taxpayer, the Office of Personnel Management ruled Monday.

Federal law generally prevents taxpayer money being used to pay for abortions, but OPM said healthcare plans offered through the exchanges were private.

The agency also said it will make sure the money is segregated so the portion that pays for abortions comes out of the employees’ own contribution, which amounts to about a quarter of the premiums, The Washington Times reported.

"While plans with such coverage may be offered on an Exchange, OPM can and will take appropriate administrative steps to ensure that the cost of any such coverage purchased by a member of Congress or a congressional staffer from a designated [exchange] is accounted for and paid by the individual rather than from the government contribution, consistent with the general prohibition on federal funds being used for this purpose," the ruling stated.

Democrats applauded the ruling, saying it ensures equal access to abortions.

Government Workers Told Not To Work On "Any Projects, Tasks, Activities Or Respond To Emails Or Voicemails"

Dear government workers: welcome to the private sector. This is what it feels like to have job insecurity. For the past 7 hours, some 800,000 suddenly idle Federal workers received furlough notices but were told they will still have to report to work for about four hours Tuesday even though the government is shutting down. Or, rather "work." As AP reports, various federal agencies said employees would be limited to doing work related to the shutdown, including changing voicemail messages, posting an out-of-office message on email, securing work stations and documents and completing time cards. At the Environmental Protection Agency, for example, employees were told they cannot work on "any projects, tasks, activities or respond to emails." The more cynical ones out there may ask: just how is that any change?

More on today's shutdown chronology from AP :
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said it will close its offices at 1:30 p.m. Other agencies, such as the Labor Department, expect most employees to be gone by mid-day, but haven't set a specific time.

Once they head home, furloughed employees are under strict orders not to do any work. That means no sneaking glances at Blackberries or smart phones to check emails, no turning on laptop computers, no checking office voicemail, and no use of any other government-issued equipment.

Office managers are encouraging workers to leave government-issued cell phones and computers in a secure place at the office. Those employees who work from home may find it more difficult to break the habit of checking emails or looking at documents.
