Nissan did not warn customers that this information was being passed on to various third parties without their consent. Leaf owners are hardly alone. In the past few years, there have been reports that iPhones and Android smart phones have been secretly sending Apple and Google information on users’ whereabouts.

Panetta Announces Medal For Drone Pilots
They fight the war from computer consoles and video screens.
But the troops that launch the drone strikes and direct the cyberattacks that can kill or disable an enemy may never set foot in the combat zone. Now their battlefield contributions may be recognized.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announced Wednesday that for the first time the Pentagon is creating a medal that can be awarded to troops who have a direct impact on combat operations, but do it from afar.
"I've seen firsthand how modern tools, like remotely piloted platforms and cyber systems, have changed the way wars are fought," Panetta said. "And they've given our men and women the ability to engage the enemy and change the course of battle, even from afar."

POLICE ARREST LARGE SCALE DRUG DEALER ON EASTERN SHORE
(Salisbury, MD) - A combined law enforcement effort on the Eastern Shore results in the arrest of a large scale drug dealer, yielding seven and a half pounds of marijuana, a kilogram of cocaine, and over $550,000 in drug money.
The accused is identified as Kevin Crockett Dykes, 29, of the 100 block of Centenary Drive in Salisbury, Maryland. Dykes is charged with several counts of drug possession with the intent to distribute. Dykes is being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center on $500,000 bond.
In early February, members of the Wicomico County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) unit, which consists of the Maryland State Police Gang and Firearms Enforcement Units, the Salisbury Police Department Safe Streets Team and the Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force began an investigation into the criminal activities of Dykes. Police investigators received information indicating Dykes had been operating a large scale cocaine and marijuana business for several years out of a residence in Salisbury.
On Tuesday, February 12, 2013, Dykes was stopped for a traffic violation in Salisbury, Maryland. An officer from the Salisbury Police Department and his K-9 responded to the scene to conduct a scan of the vehicle. The K-9 alerted to the presence of drugs, resulting in the seizure of four grams of marijuana from Dyke’s pants pocket. Dykes was immediately placed under arrest and transported to the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack for processing.
Police obtained search and seizure warrants for Dyke’s residence and vehicles. Further investigation led police to larger amounts of marijuana, cocaine, hallucinogenic mushrooms and money which were being stored in the Salisbury residence and in two different vehicles.
The Wicomico HIDTA unit is being assisted by the United States Drug Enforcement Agency in Salisbury and the Wicomico County State’s Attorney. The investigation continues…

Morning-After Pill Use Up To 1 In 9 Younger Women
The results come from a survey of females ages 15 to 44. Eleven percent of those who'd had sex reported using a morning-after pill. That's up from 4 percent in 2002, only a few years after the pills went on the market and adults still needed a prescription.
The increased popularity is probably because it is easier to get now and because of media coverage of controversial efforts to lift the age limit for over-the-counter sales, experts said. A prescription is still required for those younger than 17 so it is still sold from behind pharmacy counters.

During her February 10 segment, Pelosi premised her conversation by pointing out that Japan has, “the most violent games and the rest and the lowest mortality from guns.” This, Pelosi imagined, was because Japan “might have good gun laws.”
The Democrat House Minority Leader then went on to tell Wallace that the First Amendment gave Americans the right to have a gun and that was a thing she and the Democrats want to “avow.”
We’re talking about no further sales of assault weapons. What is the justification for an assault weapon? No further sales of those, no further sales of the increased capacity, 30 rounds in a gun. We’re talking about background checks which is very popular, even among gun owners, and, hunters.
We avow the First Amendment. We stand with that and say that people have a right to have a gun to protect themselves in their homes and their jobs, where ever, and that they–and their workplace–and that they, for recreation for hunting and the rest. So we’re not questioning their right to do that.

Proposal To Webcast Senate Committee Voting Shot Down
The Senate Rules Committee on Wednesday voted down a proposed amendment to Senate rules by Sen. Allan Kittleman, R-Howard, that would have required Senate committees to webcast the crucial voting sessions, as the committee hearings already are. The recordings of the hearings are also archived, for later listening.
When he introduced the proposed change four weeks ago, Kittleman said he had heard from constituents who wanted to listen to committee votes over the Internet. “I think it would be another way to make it more transparent,” Kittleman said.

Older Drivers Involved In Fewer Crashes, MVA Report Says
The report, prepared at the request of the budget committees in the House and Senate, compared the crash statistics of drivers from the ages of 16 to 100 and analyzed crash reports to determine age-based driving behaviors.
“While the number of older drivers continues to grow, the total number of accidents caused and the crash rate per licensed driver is lower than any other age demographic,” the report found.

They don’t call the place Big Bear for nothing. You couldn’t buy one, though, because private ownership of these weapons had been outlawed. That didn’t stop the killer. He was carrying one ... that along with several pistols. The law didn’t seem to deter him at all. The murderer was still far enough away that you could stop him with one shot through your window, but that option had been taken away by anti-gun zealots.
Somehow you don’t feel comfortable with only your handgun and it’s seven-shot magazine to protect you from this approaching danger. You know the killer, who is rapidly nearing your door, is much more heavily armed than you. Things aren’t looking all that rosy for you and your family right now.

Reward Up To $25,000 For Eastern Shore Arson Info
The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office is putting forth funds to increase the reward related to the Accomack County arsons. As of Thursday, persons coming forward with information that leads to an arrest and conviction in these cases could be eligible for a reward of up to $25,000.
To notify the Eastern Shore community about the reward increase and a new Accomack County Arson Tip Line number, state police and the sheriff’s office are also distributing and posting new printed fliers throughout the Eastern Shore. Anyone with information about the arsons and/or individual(s) responsible is encouraged to contact law enforcement via a new Tip Line dedicated to these investigations. “The sheriff’s office and state police have received an overwhelming response from the public with tips and information, but there are still residents out there who know something about the persons involved in setting the fires,” Accomack County Sheriff Todd Godwin said. “I hope the increase in the reward will help persuade these residents to now come forward. These fires must be stopped – for the safety of our property owners, for the safety of our volunteer firefighters, and for the safety and wellbeing of our close-knit community.”
From Nov. 12, 2012, through Feb. 11, 2012, there have been 48 structure and debris fires intentionally set in Accomack County. On Feb. 13, 2013, it was discovered that someone tried to burn down the Leatherbury United Methodist Church in Onancock, Va. The church building suffered only minor damage. No one, to date, has been injured in any of the arsons.
“As we have stated before, state police are aggressively pursuing all leads related to these arsons,” Capt. T.A. Reibel, Commander of the BCI Chesapeake Field Office. “We are also confident, based on the evidence collected at the scenes, that the majority of the arsons are the work of a collaboration of individuals. The information needed to put a stop to these fires and effect an arrest is out there – we just need the right people to text us, call us or email us with what they know.”
Initially, a $5,000 reward was made available through the International Association of Arson Investigators (http://www.vaiaai.com/). The Sheriff’s Office is allocating the additional $20,000.
Pa. Grad Student Sues, Says C-Plus Cost Her $1.3M
Graduate student Megan Thode wasn't happy about the C-plus she received for one class, saying the mediocre grade kept her from getting her desired degree and becoming a licensed therapist -- and, as a result, cost her $1.3 million in lost earnings.
Now Thode is suing her professor and Lehigh University in Bethlehem, claiming monetary damages and seeking a grade change.
A judge is hearing testimony in the case this week in Northampton County Court. Lehigh and the professor contend her lawsuit is without merit. Northampton County Judge Emil Giordano declined to dismiss the suit Wednesday, ruling that there was enough evidence for the suit to proceed, according to The (Easton) Express-Times.

Intellectual historians of black America might make a great deal out of the image of a frowning Obama listening as Carson inveighed against a culture of victimology and dependency. It’s too trite to say that the president is the incarnation of W.E.B. DuBois and Carson of Booker T. Washington. After all, DuBois renounced his American citizenship, became a communist and moved to Ghana at the end of his life. Obama, the son of a leftist (if not an actual communist) from Africa, went on to become the president of the United States — a significantly different story, to put it mildly.
But as Mark Twain allegedly said, history doesn’t repeat itself, but it does rhyme. The great argument between DuBois and Washington is often boiled down to integration versus self-help. Washington believed that blacks should emphasize education and self-advancement first and worry about integration later. DuBois favored a civil-rights-first strategy combined with reliance on the leadership of technocrats, including what he called the “talented tenth,” or the best African-Americans.

This statement is issued in response to inquiries regarding the status and scope of the Maryland State Police investigation into the shooting that occurred February 12, 2013 in Owings Mills, during a Baltimore Police Academy training exercise.
This criminal investigation is being conducted by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, which also conducts criminal investigations into all police shootings involving Maryland state troopers and allied police departments when requested. Homicide Unit investigators are being assisted by State Police investigators from the Criminal Investigation Bureau and crime scene technicians and scientists from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division.
State Police investigators have conducted and are continuing to conduct interviews with persons who were at the shooting scene, as well as anyone who may have information related to what occurred. In addition, evidence collected from the scene will be analyzed and reviewed in an effort to corroborate witness information. State Police investigators are receiving full cooperation from Baltimore Police Department personnel.
The Maryland State Police investigation is being conducted as a criminal investigation with the purpose of determining if a crime occurred and who was responsible for that crime. The Maryland State Police is not conducting an administrative investigation. An administrative investigation examines the adherence of personnel to department policies and procedures.
Maryland State Police investigators will conduct a thorough, detailed, and appropriate criminal investigation. As a result, a prediction of when the criminal investigation will be complete cannot be made. Based on the circumstances known at this point, there is no doubt the criminal investigation will take at least weeks.
When the State Police criminal investigation is complete, it will be forwarded to the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office for review. That office will determine any action taken based on the results of the criminal investigation.

Former Zynga Exec Eyes New Baltimore County Video Game Venture
Former Zynga East developer Brian Reynolds left his job as chief game designer for the FarmVille creator at the end of January and now is considering launching a new mobile gaming company in Baltimore County.
Reynolds has been seeking interest from potential investors for the new company that could be headquartered in Lutherville or Timonium. The company would focus on games for mobile devices and tablets.
Reynolds left Zynga to pursue a new company to satisfy a creative itch.

Dumb and Dumber: Why Does Washington Have No Learning Curve?
You could, of course, sit there, slack-jawed, thinking about how mindlessly repetitive American foreign and military policy is these days. Or you could wield all sorts of fancy analytic words to explain it. Or you could just settle for a few simple, all-American ones. Like dumb. Stupid. Dimwitted. Thick-headed. Or you could speak about the second administration in a row that wanted to leave no child behind, but was itself incapable of learning, or reasonably assessing its situation in the world.
Or you could simply wonder what’s in Washington’s water supply. Last week, after all, there was a perfect drone storm of a story, only a year or so late -- and no, it wasn’t that leaked “white paper” justifying the White House-directed assassination of an American citizen; and no, it wasn’t the two secret Justice Department “legal” memos on the same subject that members of the Senate Intelligence Committee wereallowed to “view,” but in such secrecy that they couldn’t even ask John O. Brennan, the president’s counterterrorism tsar and choice for CIA director, questions about them at his public nomination hearings; and no, it wasn’t anything that Brennan, the man who oversaw the White House “kill list” and those presidentially chosen drone strikes, said at the hearings. And here’s the most striking thing: it should have set everyone’s teeth on edge, yet next to nobody even noticed.

Measure Would Create Funding Stream For Exchange And Expand Medicaid
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and state health officials on Wednesday outlined some of the final steps in a three-year effort to create a health benefit exchange in Maryland as part of the federal health care overhaul.
Brown, who has been working on health care legislation for Gov. Martin O’Malley’s administration, testified on a bill to create a funding source to pay for the state’s health benefit exchange. The exchange is a new insurance market that will offer residents a choice of private health plans. The measure would pay for it by using money from an existing 2 percent tax on insurance plans that are state regulated.
The measure also includes an expansion of Medicaid to give more poor people access to government care. The federal health care law gives states the option to accept the expansion, refuse it, or postpone a decision. The federal government will pay the entire cost of the expansion in the first three years and 90 percent after that.

BALTIMORE —Sources have told the 11 News I-Team that the shooting Tuesday of a police recruit during a training exercise shows there's a "total lack of institutional control" in the Baltimore Police Department.
The recruit was shot and critically wounded Tuesday afternoon during a training session at the site of the former Rosewood State Hospital in Owings Mills.
Sources told I-Team lead investigative reporter Jayne Miller that the veteran Baltimore police instructor mistakenly grabbed the wrong weapon during the session -- his service weapon instead of a training gun -- and fired a 40-caliber bullet through a window, striking the recruit in the forehead.

Family Grateful Remains Of Missing Korean War Vet Returned Home
Hare was born in Cumberland in 1932, the first of 15 children to James and Opal Hare. He was just 19 years old when he joined the U.S. Army. After completing training at Camp Lejeune, he joined thousands of soldiers fighting in the Korean conflict in 1949.
While sporadic, his parents received letters from James, but soon the letters stopped and the fate of the eldest child was unclear.
After nearly two years of waiting, the Hares received a letter that indicated James had been captured by the North Koreans and had died.

Riding public transportation in the Philly area saves individuals $11,768 a year
Washington, D.C. For those dealing with the 30 cent increase in gas prices from last month, taking public transportation instead of driving can be your Silver Linings Playbook. According to the February Transit Savings Report of the American Public Transportation Association(APTA), Philly area individuals who ride public transportation instead of driving can save, on average, more than $981 this month, and $11,768 annually.
These savings are based on the cost of commuting by public transportation compared to the cost of owning and driving a vehicle which includes the February 12, 2013 average national gas price ($3.60 per gallon-reported by AAA) and the national unreserved monthly parking rate.

GALLUP: AMERICANS DISAPPROVE OF OBAMA POLICY ON NEARLY EVERY ISSUE
President Barack Obama will deliver his State of the Union address on Tuesday to a nation that disapproves of the way he is handling nearly every issue, including gun control and the federal deficit.
According to a Gallup poll, 42% of Americans approve of Obama's gun policies while 54% disapprove.

Raising The Medicare Eligibility Age
If you were delighted to hear that raising the Medicare eligibility age was off the table in the economic debate, you may want to hold off on celebrating just yet. In a White House press conference yesterday, Jay Carney confirmed that the President "would consider the hard choice that included the so-called chain CPI" to calculate cost of living adjustments for Social Security recipients. He says that the chain CPI is on the table, but will only be considered as part of a comprehensive package that "asks the burden to be shared." Chain CPI slows the growth of Social Security benefits paid to seniors over time. It would effectively reduce benefits by about $250 over three years, and could mean about $15,000 less for retirees over time. Sen. Bernie Sanders calls it "an economic and moral disaster." There is no economic reason to even balance the budget, much less should it be done on the backs of seniors and the disabled. Call the White House and demand that chain CPI is taken off the table now!

The departing Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta, just gave a clear directive to his successor – stop the discrimination against same-sex couples in the military. At his direction, the Department of Defense has issued a memorandum granting many new benefits to LGBT partners of our service men and women. Some of the new benefits include child care, legal assistance, and dependent ID cards for spouses. However, because of the Defense of Marriage Act, there are still many benefits LGBT military family members don't receive – including healthcare, hospital visitation privileges, and presentation of the Flag at military funerals. But it appears that the DoD is gearing up to extend those benefits as well, when DOMA is finally repealed – which could happen next month when it comes before the Supreme Court. The memorandum regarding new benefits clearly states that when DOMA is "no longer applicable to the Department of Denfense, it will be the policy of the Department to construe the words 'spouse' and 'marriage' without regard to sexual orientation." OutServe-SLDN Executive Director Allyson Robinson praised Panetta's decision saying, "We thank him for getting us a few steps closer to full equality – steps that will substantively improve the quality of life for gay and lesbian military families." Kudos to Leon Panetta, and let's hope the Supreme Court overturns DOMA next month.

The incident began on January 24, 2013, at 2:50 a.m. when Troopers responded to a report of the noise of a chainsaw in a farm field on Deer Forrest Road. Responding Troopers discovered two empty pickup trucks under an irrigation system. One of the vehicles belonged to Minos J. Wilson, 36, of Georgetown. The other vehicle was not properly registered.
A canine responded to the scene and performed a track from the pickup trucks to the residence of Minos J. Wilson, at which no one would answer the door. Through further investigation, detectives were able to determine that Minos J. Wilson and his nephew, Chad A. Wilson, 27, of Georgetown, had cut several pieces of copper wire from the irrigation system before fleeing as Troopers arrived.
Both defendants came to Troop 4 on February 12 and were charged with criminal mischief over $5,000, conspiracy second degree, theft under $1,500, and criminal trespass third degree. They were released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
Theft of copper from irrigation systems is a continuing problem, and Troopers ask anyone who may have any information in reference to these crimes to contact the Troop 4 Property Crimes Unit at (302) 856-5850, extension 211. Recovered from the residence were over four pounds of marijuana from a box that had just been delivered from California. Also recovered were 12 grams of marijuana stored in a freezer, a digital scale, and a marijuana pipe.
Detectives determined that the resident of the home, Larry Feldman, 63, had shipped the marijuana from California to himself. He was taken into custody and transported to Troop 3, where he was charged with attempted possession of a controlled substance in a tier 2 quantity, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $5,500 unsecured bail.

Perhaps no one gets more delight out of reading a fortune cookie’s message than a kid — “I’m going to triumph in all my endeavors today! What’s an endeavor?” — which is exactly why one company is changing its cookies’ tune. Apparently parents have been complaining that some of the romantic messages are a wee bit too adult for the younger set, so the world’s largest fortune-cookie maker is ditching any phrase with a hint of romance.

Coroner Concludes Woman’s 2 Gallon A Day Coca-Cola Habit “A Substantial Factor” In Her Death
When a New Zealand woman died in February 2010, her family swiftly pointed fingers at her 2.2 gallon a day Coke habit. Not the white powdery stuff, the drinkable, cola-y stuff. And although it’s taken three years, a coroner has found that the beverage was a major factor in her death. Coca-Cola had pointed out last year that too much water is bad for you as well, so it’s not surprising that the company disagrees with the ruling.
The 30-year-old mother of eight guzzled a whole lot of Coke for years before her death, and the coroner said a bunch of her health problems could be connected to the “extreme” amounts she ingested daily. He said that consumption likely played a role in the cardiac arrhythmia that killed her, reports the AFP.
“I find that when all the available evidence is considered, were it not for the consumption of very large quantities of Coke by [the woman], it is unlikely that she would have died when she died and how she died,” he found. He added that her Coke habit ”was a substantial factor that contributed to the development of the metabolic imbalances which gave rise to the arrhythmia.”

Closed-Door Meetings On Gun Control Criticized In Maryland
When Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley’s controversial gun-control bill came up last week in the state Senate, lawmakers held an open hearing that drew more than 1,000 people and lasted more than eight hours.

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley appears to have used his executive power to get the personal emails of citizens with hunting licenses in order to push gun control. The second-term Democrat is using the information in an attempt to divide gun owners to build support for his extremist legislation to abridge Second Amendment rights.
Patrick Shomo, the president of the pro-gun rights organization Maryland Shall Issue, told me that O’Malley “appears to be tapping the state’s Department of Natural Resources database for hunting licenses.”
Hunters in Maryland received an email from their governor on Feb. 7 purportedly to make them aware of the about the Junior Waterfowl Hunting Day on Saturday. Quickly switching gears, he wrote:
“I also want to take this opportunity to address you directly about the proposal we recently introduced to reduce gun violence. Our goal is to enact common sense proposals to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals, and to try to reduce the risk of a mass shooting like the one that occurred in Newtown. Man Protecting Wife, Kids From Home Invaders Shot Dead, Family Says
A Miami man who tried to protect his wife and daughter from a pair of home invaders was shot and killed early Wednesday, family members said.
Miami Police say they're looking for two heavily armed suspects who ambushed the family inside their home in the area of Northwest 16th Avenue and 44th Street.
"We call these two men beasts," Miami Police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes said.
Family members said 36-year-old Maurice Harris and his wife and 11-year-old daughter were inside the home when the two men broke in around midnight.

OBAMA: "After years of grueling recession, our businesses have created over 6 million new jobs."
In the post just below it talks about the facts of Obama's State of the Union Address. In this case, 6 million new jobs.
I'd like to share my personal thoughts and opinion on this matter.
It's no secret that with the fear of Obamacare upon the business world, many of the largest corporations are cutting back part time hours to less than 30 hours a week. Some full time jobs are now being cut back to less than 30 hours a week. DON'T BE FOOLED as to why.
While hours are being cut back and Obama trying to increase the minimum wage, MORE people, (PART TIME) will be hired to fill in the gaps. Hence, yes, more people will be employed and the unemployment will in fact DROP. HOWEVER, they will be filled with more part time jobs, NOT full time jobs.
It's a numbers game Ladies & Gentlemen and it's a GAME in which is NOT going to help cure America's desperate need for good paying jobs.
When your child comes out of college and needs a good paying job to pay back loans, buy a car, pay for insurance, get a place of their own and fumble around for change to eat off the dollar menu every night, our leader, (Obama) is NOT fooling this American.
Obama is dumbing down America and I can only hope YOU are not falling for it. Salisbury has enough of this similar problem WITHOUT President Obama making it even worse. Home Depot, WalMart and many other corporations are already cutting back hours and preparing for the worst.
This is why I announced my intent to make the Mayor's job a FULL TIME job. Yes, even at the $25,000.00 a year it now offers. Half of my day will be spent doing the business of the City as your Mayor and the other half will be dedicated to reaching out to businesses that provide great paying jobs and encourage them to relocate to Salisbury, Maryland from all over the world.
We can no longer do what Jim Ireton and Barrie Tilghman have done by sitting back and waiting for businesses to fall into their laps. You must work hard to bring these businesses here and STOP calling Press Conferences pointing fingers at every one else, blaming them for why Salisbury is so far behind.
We do not need 500 affordable housing units Downtown by giving away our Downtown parking lots. We need good paying jobs so people can afford well built homes they can buy and afford. We want homes with 50 year roofing shingles, not 10 year roofing shingles.
As your next Mayor I will work hard to plan ahead, think out of the box and NOT depend on scraps our Government leaves us to pick on. This is called LEADERSHIP.

The Queen Anne's County Sheriff is using Valentine's Day to try and find some wanted suspects.
Sheriff Gary Hofman says he will personally give a dozen roses and a card to the significant others or spouses of the wanted suspects who give deputies information about their whereabouts.
The Sheriff is featured in the YouTube video then showing photos the suspects and offering information about their alleged crimes.

Infested Shipment Found At Port Of Baltimore
U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office agriculture specialists at the Port of Baltimore say they discovered that the shipment of celery seed was heavily infested with Khapra Beetles.
The discovery was made February 7th at the Port of Baltimore. No live insects were found, officials say.

SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR MURDER OF FREDERICK CO. MAN
(NEW YORK, NY) – An Anne Arundel County man was arrested early this morning at a New York airport after a warrant was issued charging him with the murder of a Frederick County man whose body was found in the trunk of his car late last year.
The suspect is identified as Michael A. Stahlnecker, 51, of the 1700-block of Fallsway Drive, Crofton, Md. He is charged on a warrant from the District Court of Maryland for Anne Arundel County with first degree murder, second degree murder, first degree assault, second degree assault, reckless endangerment, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/violent crime.
Stahlnecker was arrested shortly before 6:00 a.m. today by New York/New Jersey Port Authority Police, special agents from ICE Homeland Security Investigations, and the US Marshals Service, as he prepared to board a flight at the JFK International Airport. Investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, the State Apprehension Team, and the Frederick County Narcotics Task Force were with federal agents and Port Authority Police when the arrest was made. Stahlnecker is currently held on a fugitive warrant in New York pending extradition proceedings to return him to Maryland.
The victim is identified as John P. Ryan, 37, of Frederick, Md. His body was found in his 2007 Lexus in a parking lot in the 15000-block of Somerville Drive, Derwood, Md., on the afternoon of December 3, 2012. Police had been searching for Ryan since his wife reported him missing to the Frederick Police Department on November 29, 2012.
Since the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit became involved with this investigation, investigators have worked closely with the Frederick County Narcotics Task Force. Task force investigators had initiated an investigation in the summer of 2012 into allegations that Ryan and associates were involved in the importation and distribution of marijuana. Stahlnecker was identified as a close associate of Ryan’s in this operation.
State Police homicide investigators believe Ryan had a meeting scheduled with Stahlnecker on the morning of November 28, 2012, at a warehouse leased by the suspect in the 3300-block of Laurel Fort Meade Road, Laurel, Md. A search warrant served at the address resulted in the recovery of Ryan’s blood near the rear loading dock and on the bristles of a broom outside the rear of the business.
Investigators believe evidence indicates Ryan was shot at the warehouse location and then driven in his car to the address in Montgomery County where his body was found in the trunk. A motive has not been confirmed at this time, however investigators determined Stahlnecker owed large amounts of money to several persons.
The investigation is continuing.

Just how utterly reliant on sheer power is President Obama can be appreciated from the fact that no one in his administration bothers to defend his policy of confiscating people's resources. Apart from calling upon the phony support of a few super rich folks like Warren Buffet − who, I understand, is by no means offering his own wealth up for use by Mr. Obama (instead, engaging in customary dodging and weaving, not paying up) − no argument has been put forth by the administration for the progressive tax policy it relies upon. Merely declaring that the very wealthy "may be asked" to contribute a higher percentage of their belongings isn't an argument, merely a dishonest dogma. Why, one may ask! What principle supports this policy of public finance? Why must those with exceptional talent, skill, luck, etc. be punished for possessing these?
Sure, such very rich folks may not need their resources as badly as do poorer folks but why is that a justification for the confiscatory policy? It simply is not. Matters concerning who needs what, how much, etc., just have no generalized answer. "Fair share" is a made-up idea, a rationalization, based on nothing more than the wish to take, take and take some more. Such a wish has no standing in morality or public finance!
If the country were some kind of club or organization that came together voluntarily, with the provision that dues will be progressive, the case would be different. But just being born into a society with greater advantages and resources than others possess doesn't by any means serve as a valid reason to be subjected to confiscation. Consent would be needed for that; otherwise, what we have is nothing different from highway robbery.
Some gullible folks have compared Obama's philosophy of public finance to Robin Hoodism but that's entirely misguided. What Robin Hood did was to take funds back from those who taxed the population! Robin Hood correctly regarded taxes as unjustified takings, as robbery!

Md. Inmate Homicides Spiked in 2012
HAGERSTOWN — Inmate-on-inmate homicides at Maryland state prisons spiked in 2012 to seven, the highest number in at least 11 years, the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services said Tuesday.
The seven slayings, up from four in 2011, were isolated incidents that don’t reflect decreased safety at the agency’s 27 institutions, spokesman Rick Binetti said in an emailed response to questions from The Associated Press. He said inmate-on-inmate homicides have averaged 3.6 per year since 2001.
“While there was an uptick last year at seven, there have been other years where that has kicked up above the average as well,” Binetti wrote. For example, there were six such deaths in both 2009 and 2006, he said.

State Treasurer Says Md. Bonds Face Moody’s Downgrade
On Tuesday, Kopp told the Senate Budget and Tax Committee that she recently had discussions with Moody’s representatives. She argued that Maryland’s educated workforce and “conservative budget” make it worthy of the agency’s highest credit rating. But the agency has refused to budge on its position that Maryland’s creditworthiness depends upon the outcome of Washington budget negotiations.
“There is this cloud on the horizon,” Kopp said. “If those ladies and gentleman on Capitol Hill can’t get it together and reach the consensus that Moody’s wants, then they will downgrade the United States, and they might downgrade Maryland, too.”

St. Georges -- St. Georges -- About 1600 gallons of diesel fuel is being recovered today; the result of a spill that occurred over the weekend at a DelDOT facility near St. Georges, DE.
The spilled fuel was contained by a nearby retention pond, and there are no indications that any of the fuel reached a nearby stream.
DelDOT officials became aware of the extent of the spill this morning. Operators had fueled vehicles at this location during storm operations this past weekend.
As part of their Hazardous Material plan, DelDOT personnel contacted the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) to report the incident. In addition, DelDOT officials also contacted Guardian Environmental Services, a contractor for DelDOT, who had a team on site within 30 minutes to contain and clean up the spill.
Environmental experts at the scene said they were confident most of the fuel would be recovered. Clean-up operations should be completed this evening.
Clean-up costs are estimated to be about $50,000. DelDOT is cooperating with DNREC's Environmental Crimes Unit to determine the cause of the spill.

The Delmarva Education Foundation will hold its first Honor an Educator benefit golf tournament at Deer Run Golf Club in Berlin on Saturday, June 8. Proceeds from the golf tournament will benefit both DEF and the new Marian Colbert Memorial Scholarship fund.
DEF is a local non-profit that helps make the dream of obtaining a college degree a reality for students in Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset counties by assisting them with finding money to continue their education. The Marian Colbert Memorial Scholarship is being established in memory of Deer Run owner Ed Colbert’s first wife, Marian, and will provide much-needed money for local students to go to college.
The registration fee is just $100 per player. The tournament features a Captain’s Choice Scramble format and kicks off with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Registration includes a continental breakfast, lunch, golf and cart, range balls, one mulligan per player, team prizes, hole-in-one prize. Golf tournament sponsors are also needed as are silent and live auction donations. As a golf tournament sponsor at the $1,000 level, sponsors will receive a free team entry for 4 players, a 1/2 page advertisement in the event program, a sponsorship mention in all tournament marketing and a large professional hole sign posted on the golf course during the event. Additional sponsorship levels are also available.

The Delmarva Education Foundation will hold its first Honor an Educator benefit golf tournament at Deer Run Golf Club in Berlin on Saturday, June 8. Proceeds from the golf tournament will benefit both DEF and the new Marian Colbert Memorial Scholarship fund.
DEF is a local non-profit that helps make the dream of obtaining a college degree a reality for students in Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset counties by assisting them with finding money to continue their education. Many of those served by DEF are low-income, first-generation college students who don’t have anyone in the family to help them work through the college application and financial aid process.

Ohio School Board Votes To Keep Jesus Portrait Up

The Jackson City Schools board offered a constitutional justification of its own in voting 4-0 to keep the portrait up in its middle school, saying it must protect students' free speech rights. The vote drew cheers and applause from the dozens of people gathered in the elementary school gymnasium.
After huddling with attorneys in closed session for more than an hour, the school board said the portrait belongs to the student group that put it up, the Hi-Y club. The portrait's frame is inscribed with the club's name and the Christian-based service group is the portrait's owner, not the school, the board said.
The board said the portrait is part of a "limited public forum," and that the Jackson schools will allow other student clubs to hang portraits appropriate to their organizations.

Wicomico Board Of Education Recognizes 68 Magi Children’s Choir Singers
The Board of Education recently presented certificates of recognition to 68 Wicomico students from 11 elementary and middle schools who sang in service with the 2012 Magi Children’s Choir at the annual Magi Fund Choral Festival.
Every November for the past 19 years, The Magi Fund’s Choral Festival has helped address pressing needs in the community. Two sold-out concerts at the Wicomico High School Auditorium on Nov. 17 and 18 raised $62,000 and brought in 2,800 cans of donated food for the Christian Shelter and Joseph House Center. Children’s Choir participants put in many hours of practice to prepare for the concerts.
The Board of Education recently presented a certificate of recognition to the following students for participating in the 2012 Magi Children’s Choir:

FACT CHECK: Overreaching In State Of Union Speech
A look at some of the claims in his State of the Union speech, a glance at the Republican counterargument and how they fit with the facts:
OBAMA: "After years of grueling recession, our businesses have created over 6 million new jobs."
THE FACTS: That's in the ballpark, as far as it goes. But Obama starts his count not when he took office, but from the point in his first term when job losses were the highest. In doing so, he ignores the 5 million or so jobs that were lost on his watch, up to that point.

Spielberg's Sovietization Of U.S. History: The Bait-And-Switch Game Of 'Historical Docudrama'
When Steve Spielberg’s movie "Lincoln" came out Time magazine featured interviews with him and his historical advisor on the film, Doris Kearns-Goodwin. Spielberg said the movie is based on part of Goodwin’s book, Team of Rivals, because he was so impressed with her scholarship and the great detail and abundance of historical facts in the book. Goodwin herself wrote in Time that she spent ten years researching and writing the book to assure audiences that the movie was in fact very, very well researched. (This project was commenced shortly after she was kicked off the Pulitzer Prize committee and PBS for confessing to plagiarism related to an earlier book of hers).
Time’s cover story included another article by another historian, in order to further persuade Americans that the movie portrays The True Story about the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution that ended slavery. Another major theme of the movie, one which is accurate but not developed nearly enough, is how much of a political conniver, liar and manipulator Lincoln was, and how he ignored the law and the Constitution in myriad ways. This was brought out in the movie so that the punditry could then editorialize about how President Obama should be "more like Lincoln" and ignore any and all constitutional constraints on presidential powers. The punditry did indeed behave in exactly that way before and after the November election.
