Resume:
Georgetown – Detectives have arrested two Georgetown men after they stole copper parts from an irrigation system.

The incident began on January 24, 2013, at 2:50 a.m. when Troopers responded to a report of the noise of a chainsaw in a farm field on Deer Forrest Road. Responding Troopers discovered two empty pickup trucks under an irrigation system. One of the vehicles belonged to Minos J. Wilson, 36, of Georgetown. The other vehicle was not properly registered.

A canine responded to the scene and performed a track from the pickup trucks to the residence of Minos J. Wilson, at which no one would answer the door. Through further investigation, detectives were able to determine that Minos J. Wilson and his nephew, Chad A. Wilson, 27, of Georgetown, had cut several pieces of copper wire from the irrigation system before fleeing as Troopers arrived.

Both defendants came to Troop 4 on February 12 and were charged with criminal mischief over $5,000, conspiracy second degree, theft under $1,500, and criminal trespass third degree. They were released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

Theft of copper from irrigation systems is a continuing problem, and Troopers ask anyone who may have any information in reference to these crimes to contact the Troop 4 Property Crimes Unit at (302) 856-5850, extension 211. Citizens may also provide a tip by texting keyword “DSP” plus your message to 274637 (CRIMES), or through lines maintained by Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333. 1:06 Unless they're Moose Lodge members, in which case, we should give them their copper and cash.

For stealing copper?! Come on, get real.

I am real, 2:02!!

It's not just the value of the copper here.

Stealing $100 worth of copper at scrap value causes tens of thousands of dollars' worth of damages!

Those crooks are much more destructive than any other type of thievery!

YOU should obtain estimates to replace all the wiring and piping in your place after having it all ripped out. Just try to get a new outside HVAC unit installed after your old one has been stolen!

It ain't going to be cheap, I can tell you!

Ok, you make good points, but still, life in jail is still too extreme.

Do you, or anyone else, know if the owners have insurance that would cover their losses?

I understand the anger that would be directed at the person for doing the damage, but, the punishment you suggest is not realistic.

While it may appear that I am advocating life in prison, it is partly in jest.

When I say "throw away the key" I am really advocating for a much harsher punishment than a slap on the wrists -- which is what most of these hoodlums end up with.

Delaware is much harder on DUI offenders than they are on criminals like these ...
