OCEAN CITY — Four suspects have been charged with armed robbery and first-degree assault after alleged gunpoint robbery involving a shotgun on the Boardwalk last week.
Around 2:15 a.m. last Wednesday, an Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) officer on bicycle patrol was dispatched to the area of 12th Street and the Boardwalk for a reported assault with gun. As the bicycle officer made his way to the scene, the officer observed a suspect matching the description provided by Ocean City Communications running west toward Baltimore Avenue. The officer detained the suspect, later identified as James Watson, 17, of Alexandria, Va.
OCPD officers identified Watson as the suspect they had seen with a shotgun. OCPD officers viewed the City Watch video footage of the incident and observed Watson walking down the Boardwalk carrying a shotgun. The officer who first detained Watson reported never seeing Watson in possession of the shotgun, but witnesses told police Watson handed the weapon to a friend, who went back to their vehicle.
OCPD officers interviewed the female victim, who reportedly told police Watson had robbed her and her 10-year-old niece. The victim told police Watson held her 10-year-old niece at gunpoint and demanded her cell phone, according to police reports. The victim told police she grabbed the cell phone from her niece and told the child to run away, according to police reports.

I agree. Not sure if this is a black on black crime but the facts clearly indicate it is a stupid on stupid crime. Not too many people of European descent with a 10 year old at 2:30AM.
Can I at least ask this question....WHAT was a 10 year old doing out on the boardwalk at 2am??? Even if in the company of an adult. Ridiculous. Remember what momma always said...."Aint nothing ever good happen out after midnight, so stay your a** inside."

Mr. Rick Meehan, I know you and some of the council members read this blog. You came under fire, years ago, for the unsafe conditions on the boardwalk after dark. People complained about your insistence that OC advertise heavily in unsafe, urban areas which have been plagued by violent crime for decades. Your plan worked; thugs have infiltrated OC more and more with every passing year. This year, June and July must have pleased you to no end. Those viral videos of the boardwalk violence are proof positive that it's over for us...under your leadership, that is.
Years ago, under heavy criticism on this blog in particular, you were challenged to walk the boards around any midnight to see for yourself, and maybe take your girlfriend and/or family members along, the fruits of your labor. Your response was to walk from 6-8 PM (broad daylight) with a friendly reporter, and boldly turn to the camera and proclaim, "The boardwalk is safe." Sure, during the day it is, but after dark, your statement was, and still is, a lie.
Under your leadership, we have lost countless respectable repeat visitors who were endlessly hassled by (1) your homeless alcoholic criminals who met with no real resistance from city hall, and (2) your increasing non-response to the H20i annual debacle, and (3) your targeting exactly the wrong kind of visitors in your advertising quest to turn the boardwalk into the inner harbor.
You must be happy that now we have innocent women and children attacked by groups of shotgun-wielding thugs on the boardwalk now.
You did, however, offer some typically liberal solutions. Punish the innocent and the exonerate guilty, by lumping the hot rods and the bikers in with H20i. All locals, bikers, and classic car people were subject to draconian (and very unfair) measures on Coastal Hwy for 5 long weekends, when only one was necessary. Thanks for nothing there, Mr. Mayor. Another was to hold your annual "Take Back the Night" in a hidden uptown park, far beyond the reaches of your targeted marketing hoodlums and the crime-ridden boardwalk. For now, anyway. They will find it. They are already infiltrating West OC at an alarming rate. Have you heard about all the assaults at the White Marlin Mall this summer? No security and no cameras make for very happy hunting grounds. Your fault? Not the lack of security, but they are your people, your darlings, your marketing strategy targets. Again, thanks.
Your real estate friends will never tell you his, but other people are very upset at your policies. If only one candidate comes forward this fall, running on the platform of cleaning up the boardwalk and nothing else, your reign is over. By then, the upcoming results your tepid H20i plan should all but ensure a landslide against you. Therefore, please do not run for re-election. Your legacy, other than all of the above, and the Dumser's failure, and also a very weak "fight" against those giant windmills, might be viewed in retrospect as pretty good. You have done some good things for the city, but there's a lot of real damage contained herein. It's better to step down and not run than be booted out. One final note: the latest FBI crime data shows that OC ranks as the most dangerous city in Maryland for 2020. Again, thanks to you personally for that achievement.
