Richmond Removes Confederate Gen. J.E.B. Stuart Statue

Work crews ventured to the heart of Richmond, Virginia, where they removed the statue of Confederate Gen. J.E.B. Stuart on Tuesday, one week after the city’s mayor ordered all Confederate monuments on city property be removed.

According to the Associated Press, the bronze statue, which was installedin 1907 on Richmond’s Monument Avenue, was separated from its granite base on Tuesday morning and trucked away.

The Associated Press also reported that chants of “Black Lives Matter” could be heard during and after the removal, with one person saying, “Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye,” when the statue was taken away.

The statue of Stuart, which stood 15 feet tall on a seven-foot pedestal, showed Stuart in full uniform with a sword by his side.

Last week, Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney (D) ordered the removal of Confederate statues that were located on city property, saying it was time to “turn this page.”

“As the capital city of Virginia, we have needed to turn this page for decades. And today we will,” Stoney said last week. “Since the end of Richmond’s official tenure as the capital of the Confederacy 155 years ago, we have been burdened with that legacy. … These statues, although symbolic, have cast a shadow on the dreams of our children of color. By removing them, we can begin to heal and focus our attention on our future.”

8:34/8:35/8:36 - all the same person. Funny how you are demanding the federal government put back all confederate icons, the very same confederate icons that fought for “states’ rights” like so many want to believe. Yes, the very same people that always want to point to language in the Constitution and interpret it as it was written. Without “activist judges.” I’d suggest you go back and read some of those documents that were written and passed by confederate states. In plain, written language you will see to uphold slavery and talk about inferior race.

And history is not up to the federal government to decide, or states for that matter.

This is pissing me off and my blood is boiling. I can't wait for the next Civil War and these actions are pushing us even closer.

If he didn't have the sword, he wouldn't be in full uniform.

First it was Confederate soldiers.
Then it was slave owners.
The it was the flag.
Next, and not far down the road, will be gay-bashing homophobes.
One that comes to mind is Jimmy Carter. His religion taught him that Gays were evil. The Devil.
I suggest they tear his statue down first.

Ya know. If you don’t like it here go away
Y’all are causing a race problem not curing one
This isn’t going to end in a nice way
Many lives will be lost.
Remember. He who shoots first lives longer
Jus sayin

10:56 - I suggest you go to any city to see for yourself that there is in fact an inferior race.

Does Jimmy even a statue?

7:33 is right.
Just wait until we have to play a "Black National Anthem" before the National Anthem at a football game.
White people - racist or not - will sit. Black people will sit during the National Anthem.
It is inevitable.
Who doesn't think that there will be numerous fights and altercations when this happens?
It is a recipe for total chaos.

You people who call yourselves Patriots yet screaming about Confederate flags and monuments are total hypocrites. The confederates were traitors the the country. The flag of this country is the stars and stripes not the confederate flag. This is why racists are labeled as RACISTS and you can't be taken seriously as American Patriots. You lost the war get over it or get out.

838 from Pocomoke all the way up to west Baltimore (and further) one can find scores of your white daughters, mothers, wives, etc ready to drop on their knees for $20 so they can get their fix. Hell, my tax dollars are being spent on an "opioid epidemic" primarily because of those women. So you can miss us with the garbage BS you just spouted

The Confederates were men of honor and great bravery and should be remembered that way. Robt E Lee was asked by Lincoln to take over the northern army but refused because he could not take up arms against his own state. Neither Robert E Lee nor Stonewall Jackson( who started a school to educate young negro children)owned slaves . As a matter of fact only 2% of the South owned slaves and the worst was a black slave owner. The war was not about slavery but the north trying to economically suppress the South.I know facts are hard for woke, mentally challenged liberals and the blm crowd but the facts are the facts !

1051 "The war was not about slavery" Too bad there are numerous first hand accounts via speeches, diary entries, articles, letters, etc. from Confederate leadership that totally blow that garbage narrative apart. I know most folks here barely dig deeper into history other than what this website tells them but you'll have to come much stronger than that to anyone who actually has researched the issue.

Doesn't matter that Lee or Stonewall or most of the poor whites fighting for the south didn't own slaves. They were fighting for the side that wanted to keep the system alive. The average ISIS fighter hasn't necessarily gone out and cut off anyone's head. That doesn't mean we don't bomb them into oblivion

It was Jewish Merchants who bought and sold slaves. They are white.

OMG, how funny.

The Civil War was 140 years ago.
You, Me, and our neighbors had nothing to do with it.

“You lost the war get over it”

Your mother would be ashamed of how ignorant you became when you turned 15
