Trump mobilizes US military to end unprecedented riots

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Monday invoked a law from 1807 allowing him to send military forces to states rocked by unrest over the death of George Floyd in a sudden White House Rose Garden address interrupted by the sounds of protesters being cleared out by police nearby.

“We cannot allow the righteous cries of peaceful protesters to be drowned out by an angry mob,” Trump said, declaring himself the “president of law and order” while blaming extremist groups such as Antifa for the unrest.

It was last used in 1992 by President George H.W. Bush to quell the LA riots, which were sparked by the police beating of Rodney King.

“If a city or state refuses to take the actions that are necessary to defend the life and property of their residents, then I will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them,” Trump said of the act.

Under the Civil War-era Posse Comitatus Act, federal troops are prohibited from performing domestic law enforcement actions such as making arrests, seizing property or searching people. In extreme cases, however, the president can invoke the Insurrection Act, which allows the use of active-duty or National Guard troops for law enforcement.

The president’s last-minute address came in juxtaposition to the scene outside, where a series of military vehicles rolled out front on Pennsylvania Avenue and military police and law enforcement clashed with protesters at Lafayette Park, firing tear gas, flash bangs, rubber bullets and pepper spray on a large but peaceful crowd.

This isn’t a protest and it’s more than a riot, it’s a militant organized anti American coup ... its a foreign funded attack

A better (legal) solution would be to prosecute the ANTIFA group and the CIA for crimes against humanity (terror).

These Psyop run by intelligence are becoming quite ridiculous. American People need to demand they stop.

Give the peaceful protestors a safe place to do their thing with a curfew. After curfew if your still out there your no longer a protestor, your a rioter. Find and arrest the leaders, organizers and financers of the rioters. Cut the head off the snake, snake dies.

Peaceful demonstrations are an American right. We do have something to protest; that rogue cop knelt on George Floyd's neck defiantly; his fellow officers who stood by are accessories. However, these looters rioters have nothing to lose. Those not from the area (and even those who are) they are rioting in don't own anything so couldn't care less about the property. It isn't theirs. They have no money and at the expense of George Floyd feel "entitled" to sack the place. George's deplorable death was in vain. Personally, the rioters/looters should be given a warning...disperse, if you do not you will be shot on sight.

This is nothing like the LA riots. Police are instigating violence. Ef the looters but the right to protest and be heard is as American as apple pie! Hell it's how we became a country in the first place!

8:04 Ah yes, and the colonists should have just paid their taxes and been happy right? They can express their emotions before 5PM but after that the British could arrest and shoot anyone out on the streets?

So now its OK for the government to tell us to stay home but not last month?

Protests are overwhelmingly peaceful. If you watch the footage anyone causing violence, lighting fireworks or vandalizing is quickly ousted by the crowd. This is a mistake and will add fuel to the fire.

It amazes me how two people can watch the same thing and get different opinions. I saw people getting beaten with bats and boards buildings set on fire, cops attacked. Cars and stores stolen and looted. I guess to you that’s just protesting.

It’s no wonder there are so many democrats. You people are crazy.

Somehow I don't think the Colonists would have tolerated fellow citizens looting and burning their businesses.

Tell that bullcrap to all the business owners dead and injured fool.

good point 8:53. Maybe they should have just been happy with the status quo and oppression. I wonder if other countries were saying ALL TAXES MATTER?
