Several PGCPS board members announced their proposal at a Black Lives Matter protest outside the District Court in Hyattsville, calling for armed police to be removed from schools entirely.
"What we're saying is that there's not a place for police officers, armed police officers in Prince George's County Public Schools and not only that... we think that that money can be better served supporting our students with more social workers, more mental health professionals, more academic interventionists to get elementary school students reading on grade level," said PGCPS school board member David Murray.
This comes after more than a week of nationwide protests over the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. The school system there ended its contract with the Minneapolis Police Department.

Who cares?? They are all animals. He'll they can't even find teacher's to go into those schools. Home school or private school. Kids learn in a safe environment. No drugs. No thugs. No bugs.

Yes, schools can say who can be on campus or not and that includes the police, unless there is a crime committed or being committed...

What about the parents getting the kids reading on grade level? You can keep running from the problem but until you fix the destruction of the black family and family values all the money in the world won't fix this
Good luck. I have friends in the school system who deal with fights, disrespectful students, students caught having sex under the stairwells etc .. hell my ass got busted for chewing gum .. wake up people

Will they close the schools there on day one when the first student is raped or shot? Or will they just call in the police to clean things up after a life is ruined or lost
Yep you will see home schooling and people moving....good parents won’t send their children to public schools if they don’t believe they will be safe! Watch and see.
Students always have had some conflicts, and that hasn't changed. What has changed are a few contributing factors.
From Pre-K on there is a sub-set of kids with no respect for authority of any sort; this is learned behavior at home.
Parents or guardians often react to behavioral shortcomings of their kids by attacking the teacher and/or school.
Schools, at the command of the state BOE, must now give misbehaving kids an enormous number of chances before actual consequences kick in. It's not infinity; it just seems that way.
We know better but the top down rule making often is not grounded in reality.
The teachers will love this! Oh well I would bet lots of money that you have voted for and supported the people on the school board. They just threw you under the bus!! Keep voting for them.
Northwest Woodsman: Be honest with yourself folks. Why don’t you take a realistic, hard look at the problems in this country and admit where most of it comes from. Why, I recall when you could walk the boardwalk or the beach in Ocean City all day and not come across a single Scandinavian! Do you find that things have changed for the better? Your schools never needed to have police called nor were they ever stationed within any of our schools. Do you find that things have changed for the better? Now, ask yourselves what changed to cause all this “disruption”? Then consider all the possible solutions and I think only one, within reason, will be successful.
Northwest Woodsman - Just like an expert hammerer, you hit the nail on the head, again!!! I remember guns in the back of pickups or taken to the office for safe storage by students during hunting season. Never was there a Cop in the school. A fight was broken up by the Administration without fear of retribution either. It is my understanding that BLM is calling for segregation of just about everything, medical facilities, schools, etc. Who knows, this might be just what some areas need along with a nuclear family or a really strong-willed grandma (since the mother is not involved apparently) who knows how to raise a kid to have manners and respect. We also need to bring back corporal punishment and shaming for being bad. Only give out medals for those who deserve it and stop being afraid of expelling bad kids from school. A stint in the Army or Marines wouldn't be a bad thing either. In lieu of prison, make military service and option again.
