Wedding company denies refund after man’s fiancée dies

Not exactly the picture of kindness.

A wedding photography company refused to refund a Colorado man after his fiancée died in a tragic car crash — then taunted him online, according to reports.

Citing his rare and heartbreaking circumstances, Justin Montney, of Colorado Springs, asked the firm Copper Stallion Media to return a $1,800 deposit after his 22-year-old bride-to-be Alexis Wyatt was killed on Feb. 4, according to KRDO-TV.

“They said they’d extend my service to my next wedding, which was a very insensitive thing to tell me,” he told the station. “They should have been able to [refund it] because they didn’t render any services.”

But the Texas-based photography company denied his request, citing a “legally binding contract” signed in November.

As word of the refusal spread, people left dozens of negative reviews on the company’s social media pages, along with the wedding site TheKnot.com, according to Fox 6 Now.

This photographer can say good bye to ever being paid for their photography services again. There are some circumstances where contracts should be ignored. I've done it myself a lot of times and I've let many people out of leases before too.

The company clearly stated that the deposit is non-refundable. Businesses need a way to survive, especially wedding companies during a pandemic. In 10 years, maybe he finds someone new, it's lucky the date was not tied to the deposit.

Very wrong of the photographer. Where the devil is his heart anyway? Sometimes you just do the right thing regardless of a damn piece of paper.

I've heard of these things happening before. In my opinion the photo company is wrong; I get the binding contract, but under these circumstances? Raw!

Not a way to promote one's business.

Another business biting its own dust in 3....2....1

This company needs to be named so the media can sink their teeth into this one. Let them get a million responses they would no longer be in business. This is just not even being human you can't use the virus as an excuse.

@9:44 hey STUPID read the article they are named! And before you decided to bash that company please be aware that people who were employed by that company have been personally attacked and have committed suicide already due to online bullies like yourself! Grow up and make sure when you sign a contract you are willing to accept the terms completely no matter what!

One can only wish the photo biz extreme bad luck at warp speed! And social media will probably deliver that wedding present in record time. It is already on one of the big wedding planning sites. Fear the bridezilla!

If they are HQ in Texas and contracting business in Colorado, they probably have a variety of photographers working with them in numerous locations. All of those photographers will be tarred with the same brush, and they will lose most future bookings who haven't signed a contract. They may even have some cancellations where couples write off the deposit but are so disgusted by the business's approach.

Update while typing: ABC is on it and the photo biz is hiding out. Circling the drain in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

The photo biz understandingly wanted to protect itself because a certain number of weddings get cancelled, and they may not be able to book a replacement; everyone understands that. But they could have verified the death and provided the refund. Instead they were smart asses in offering to keep the cash until he found another bride, and then by insulting him.

Everyone is saying the photographer should automatically give a refund ------ WHY????????? Was the deposit written on a check with his name on it? Did he even pay the deposit or did his fiance? No answer to that question!!!!

I've got mixed feelings on this. This was booked and now it might be too late to find another customer. Shit happens.
