As an essential worker in Ocean City I am well aware of what daily traffic has been since the 'stay at home' orders went into effect. The traffic is nill during the week and weekends till today. The amount of traffic in town today I thoroughly believe the population in Ocean City is at least doubled. Cars are parked in condo lots which have been empty till today. And I am not talking one or two cars but 10 - 20. So much for the governors 'stay at home' orders. Evidently it does not apply to those who have "second" residences. These people maybe asymptomatic and spreading the virus! The Governor's orders mean nothing to these people. I would not be surprised if we see a sudden uptick in cases here in the next week or two. I am sure a lot of them will have their rental cleaning crews come in to clean and some of them will contract the virus and spread it from there. Watch and see, I am willing to bet our virus cases will jump in a week or two with this massive influx. The photos are what I call heavy traffic compared to the no cars I have seen the past three weeks!!

I tend to agree with most of the comments. Enough of this already. If someone is afraid they are going to catch the virus then they should stay home. Northwest Woodsman: I told my wife that gradually, people with some intelligence and common sense will realize that this Whu Flu has been a fraud from the start. Yes, it is a dangerous disease and needs to be treated as such, but there have been so many manipulations of facts and omissions of facts that we have not gotten the true story. I have been doing some research and found that the number of actual deaths attributable to Whu Flu have been grossly exaggerated. I’m sure that there are political and financial components to this panic and some of us are beginning to question the need for such a drastic shutdown of our economy. More and more people are beginning to stand up and demand an end to this fiasco. As part of one of my career choices, I was trained in biohazard issues and to see people walking around with a mask feeling some sort of false security is laughable. First, many wear masks improperly and secondly, the only real protection would be a complete biohazard suit with gloves and booties and SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) so you are isolated from breathing contaminated air. Then, at the end of your exposure period, everything requires either destruction or decontamination. If you need that mask as a form of psychological security, please continue to wear one, forever if you feel the need. LOne benefit I have noticed is that use of a mask is an aesthetic improvement for some people, so please, keep wearing one.

I think we all should of waited for june hot temperatures before we lifted this shelter in place. The spread of this virus wouldn't be as bad then. If nothing else just let people ride through the inlet in controlled numbers to at least see the ocean and get some good clean salt air in their lungs. I live on the lower shore and my hope is that we can follow guidelines given participate as adults and give governor Hogan the respect he deserves and the town of ocean city whom I occasionally do work for, great people there. You are exactly right. We bought a condo on the boardwalk years ago. Just loved OC. We sold the condo and never looked back. The place went down hill. The once little shops on the boardwalk are now nothing but head banging music turned up full blast. Sunsations on every corner. The boardwalk filthy. So all you locals that complain, keep your little slice of heaven, we found going farther south to obx has been much more family friendly. Much cleaner and a much nicer place to share memories with the grandkids.

I'm one of those 2nd home owners we don't rent our place it's only us that use .. no cleaning people I'm fairly certain I probably pay more taxes in that town than the so called locals which as we all know 90% of people who live there are not actually locals and they rent so they are not paying property taxes. If not for us 2nd Homeowners not sure how the town would survive not to mention most essential workers are in the restaurant business right now... In ocean city ..many of which are my friends and they actually need us to be there to continue to survive. Just saying ... so maybe someone should think about that

All anyone ever talks about is going on a vacation and they need to get away from work. Yet now the majority just cannot wait to go to work. The President said so, that has to make it true! How do you explain the numbers climbing over 250 in one day? They attribute those to the chicken farmers in Wico county? I’m pretty sure the chicken farmers aren’t tourist or 2nd home owners. Covid is already there, the numbers are climbing because they are testing more.

This is so disheartening to read all of the comments and concerns. I'm neutral here bc I agree with both sides. There is a lot of controversial "facts" surrounding the virus but honestly, it's not selfish for people to want to survive. Most will and have recovered from this virus, but way too many will not recover mentally or financially. Most will make decisions based on what they feel is best for them....it's not fair to degrade them and make sometimes rude and opinionated public statements without knowing what they are truly facing in their lives. I, like everyone else, want all of this to go away. But please, let's not turn on each other. We have rights to our opinions, but let's please choose our words wisely and not be so negative toward each other. The people that own in Ocean City , but don't rent deserve a HUGE tax deduction . It's totally unfair to disallow those people to go to OC considering the huge taxes they pay and the amount of money they contribute to OC's economy.
I TOTALLY agree with everything you wrote. I have a second home in OC also. And we are the people paying all the taxes to keep the city going. Maybe these so called locals should not live in a resort town if it bothers them so much.
Oc offers alot if stuff. It's up to you to take advantage of it and have fun.

I’ll show you stats, Maryland’s numbers have gone up about 50% everyday. MD VA and DC are becoming a hot spot!! I’m a nurse who works on the front line here I Berlin and if you people who come down here with second homes whining about taxes and condo fees, sell your house. Please obey the stay at home order for one because we don’t have the space for our residents much less you all and second if you don’t infect anyone else, we could open up Maryland especially Ocean City this summer. If not it’ll either never open or have to be closed again!!! Quit being selfish and think of others!!
Did anyone consider numbers are rising like they are because we DID NOT HAVE numbers before .. no tests unless you were on ventilator ? Now testing for poultry workers and private tests being included in State numerical figures!! The local hospital has 7 ICU beds they are trying to make 16 more.This is the real problem with people coming here from elsewhere .No matter what you pay.You dont have the right to over welm the health system killing a bunch of people

True Americans?? Read up on the history of our people and our laws to learn what being a true American is. Our ancestors wouldn't have hidden in their homes over a virus, they would have been out in the fields harvesting the crops and feeding the livestock and building houses sick or healthy. They wrote our laws for us to be free to live our lives, not locked inside by fear. Oh, and deadly virus? More than 95% of the known infected have survived and the infected are less than like 0.01% of our population. The flu kills more Americans *every year*, ever year. So even if one time of the coronavirus kills more than one year of the flu, take the flu and multiply it by every year that humans have existed. So please, tell me how our politicians have saved us all while it'll take *years* to recover from this. If OC doesn't "reopen" this summer, say goodbye to many of your loved restaurants and stores and B&Bs. I'd rather die of the coronavirus with my job than lose my entire life's savings and house hiding inside. That's what a true American looks like.
No, the virus is killing a few people. Governor Hogan wrecked the economy. Just remember that. The virus didn't do anything to the economy, fear damaged it. So when your kid can't go to college because their college fund never rebounded, that wasn't the virus, it was a bunch of politicians who were afraid of not being reelected.

All of the whining about "I pay taxes" and "We support Ocean City", "my constitutional rights, "we're getting our place ready for the season" blah, blah, blah, is nothing more than a deflection of the real truth - these people came down here to escape WHERE THEY LIVE temporarily, because they were SCARED that they may get sick by staying where they CHOSE to make their full time residence. They are NEVER here in these numbers on any other year. NEVER. We all know why they are here despite what they claim. Just cowards who escaped from where they live and think that they "support" us because they bought a condo here.
Ahhh. Did ya ever consider that ALSO normally kids ARENT out of SCHOOL, and pl parents aren't LAID OFF, so they CANT come. But guess what due to the media hype, and fear factory's now they are laid off and our schools are closed, so WHY NOT just go to the beach?
