Maryland County Assigns Residents Shopping Days to Combat Coronavirus

Calvert County, Maryland, seeks to fix "chronic overcrowding" in grocery stores by assigning residents shopping days based on their last names

Calvert County, Maryland, has asked residents to grocery shop only on certain days assigned by last name to combat the spread of coronavirus.

"Chronic overcrowding" has become an issue in grocery and convenience stores, so residents are now asked to grocery shop no more than every five days, the health department said. Residents were assigned certain shopping days based on their last names.
Last name starting with A-C shop on dates ending with 0 and 5
Last name starting with D-G shop on dates ending with 1 and 6
Last name starting with H-L shop on dates ending with 2 and 7
Last name starting with M-R shop on dates ending with 3 and 8
Last name starting with S-Z shop on dates ending with 4 and 9

"Going to the grocery store has shifted from an occasional trip to get necessities to a frequent excuse for getting out of the house," the health department said.

Lets see them try to enforce this!
Have we become some kind of communist hell hole?

It's been over a month of this, I think most of us are getting
very tired of this and natives are starting to get restless!

I say quarantine those most at risk, and let the general population go about their business and get this economy running again!

To me this is just an exercise and test for government control of the population. Enough is enough!!!

This is what you morons wanted, socialism, you wanted someone else stuff and not work for it, welcome to standing in line for hours to get rationed food, and high priced food... Now they are saying its based on your last name!!!! Back in the 70's they did this with gas!!!!!

It needs to be state driven rather than county - especially around here since we have access to 2 other states, counties and stores.

Nice try though.

How is this going to be enforced?

Might look good on paper but not realistic or workable. Would be much better to do vehicle license plate numbers. Last number even or odd to the days date.

Awesome! Just like every other fascist socialist country! Venezuela anyone?

They did it with a gas, under President Carter but it was based on your tag number odd or even

Google a pic of the GUM dept store in Bernie's good old USSR for a look at state run scarcity.

License plates would eliminate other states from buying.

Good grief has it really come to this? Deciding which Americans can or can't buy goods services to live. Wow.

Just like the Depression. Assigned days to purchase gas if you had a coupon. Coupons issued for certain food etc. We need to thank God for Trump.

I wouldn't listen. Just that simple.

How they going to enforce that here when they can t control the massive amount of our of staters floating in and setting up residence or utilizing our stores.

I remember in the late 1970s this was done and there were 'gas lines.' Based on your license tag number. Our driveway was down the street from a gas station. It worked.
