3 Big Cruise Lines Might Not Get Any Stimulus Bill Aid

The big three cruise-line companies apparently won’t be eligible for the $2 trillion coronavirus relief package Congress approved Friday because they paid virtually nothing in U.S. income taxes after posting nearly $6 billion in combined profits last year.

Carnival Corp., Royal Caribbean Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, though they are run by executives working out of offices in Miami, base themselves overseas, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

The strategy allows them to avoid many American laws governing everything from minimum wages to pollution, the Sentinel reported.

Good they don’t pay a dime of tax and are an industry solely built around skating any country with labor laws or tax laws. Hell Royal Caribbean is incorporated in Liberia.

The whole stimulus was a $2.2 Trillion dollar boondoggle meant to pay off corporate masters and buy votes from the sheep. The so-called conservatives have done more harm to the nation's finances than 8 years of Obama. They are enjoying playing the role of socialist while demonizing folks like Bernie Sanders. NO ONE in this whole process stopped to think or ask the hard questions.

Gov could have easily worked with banks to put a freeze on residential and commercial loan collection; everyone pause for 2 months and restart on schedule in 60 days. Renters and business leases could have been given a 2 month holiday. You could have boosted the unemployment benefits to those who lost their jobs and gave a 2 - 3 pay period income tax holiday on those working. All of this would have alleviated the major strain on workers and small business. And the economy would be roaring back for everyone with the pent up consumer demand once things turn to normal. All at the price of way less than $1 trillion.

And the majority of the employees on cruise ships are not Americans. My last thought is that unlike the airlines, cruise lines are not a necessary industry. Cruising is a luxury, recreational experience that is not even an option for most Americans. Let them sink or swim.
