Question Of The Day 1-7-2020

By now everyone has heard that Macy's is closing in Salisbury.  Did you shop there?

Nope

Anonymous said...

Not even once.

Anonymous said...

no

Anonymous said...

No prices were to high!

Anonymous said...

very seldom and that was only the clearance rack.

Anonymous said...

Not once!

Anonymous said...

my wife did , now she's into amazon like everyone . I do believe amazon is responsible for many stores closing in malls. We are a lazy nation , if we ever lose the internet it will like the stock market crash in the 30's .

Anonymous said...

Also 450 PIER ONES ARE CLOSING.

Anonymous said...

Nope, too expensive.

Anonymous said...

Rarely. I have no idea how/why Macy's kept this location for so long. I don't see how they could possibly have made any money. No one is ever in there...

Meanwhile.... Boscov's is killing it. Not sure how they do it, but whatever it is seems to draw in (and make loyal customers of) a broad cross-section of the community.

I'm can remember being a teenage in the late 90s thinking Boscov's was for "old people" and now I'm 36-years old and it's my favorite clothing store in Salisbury. Ha.

Anonymous said...

I did when we were in the area, but their quality was not as nice as it was years ago.

Anonymous said...

Not since Amazon came along.

Anonymous said...

All the time.

I went there just before Christmas to shop for perfume for my wife.
The price was 50 dollars more than the same exact item on Amazon, so
I purchased it on amazon instead.

When I shop at Macy's, I usually shop at the Annapolis Mall location. Better men's clothing selection than the Salisbury store. My wife says the same. I think they sent all their non selling rejects to Salisbury.

Malls all across the country are dying. I was surprised that Boscov's decided to expand. Unfortunately wages and incomes in this area cannot support a high end store like Macy's

Until we can get some decent paying jobs in this area, things are not going to improve anything soon!

Anonymous said...

walk through it everyday never see any one in there plus they just put brand new floor in mens section

Anonymous said...

It's not a surprise. Nobody wants to go to a mall where they have to worry about kids acting up.

If Macy's was a stand-alone store it might be doing better.

Anonymous said...

Sorry but I didn't know and yes I have shopped at Macys a couple of times.

Anonymous said...

Nope

Anonymous said...

The ONLY store I go into at the mall is Boscov's, and I park in back so I don't have to go into the mall.

Anonymous said...

Yes from time to time. Their own E- commerce has hurt their brick and mortar stores. Not good for the future of the Mall.

Anonymous said...

there was a macys in salisbury?

Anonymous said...

Yes went there for suits, other clothing. household goods bought a watch for my son there this Christmas. even bought a waffle maker there two months ago. For decent men’s clothing we now have zero options in town

Anonymous said...

It was my favorite store in the mall to buy presents for women.

Anonymous said...

Yes, We shopped there. It was a higher class of products & fashion than we could get at Wally World.
When the retailers are going down, so is your local economy. The decision to pull the plug was not based on one quarter or year of poor revenue. This has been coming for a few years, just like Sears.
I hope to see an up tick in retail sales & home construction in our area as these are two leading economic indicators of growth. The Dow is all well and good but, we are not producing/manufacturing many goods locally so our employment market consists of primarily service job & low skilled, low paying positions. Hard to raise a family and support a community on those positions.
"Jobs, Jobs, Jobs..!" Should be the Battle Cry for 2020.
(The last POS, I mean POTUS, didn't address this because he was too worried about creating strife & division while tearing down the economy with taxes & regulations. Prove me wrong.)

Anonymous said...

Never

Anonymous said...

The ones in the big cities are far better than the one here. They have large discount depts. and racks and racks of clothes drastically reduced not to mention real nice home depts. This one will not be missed.

Anonymous said...

Heard Pier 1 is also closing

Anonymous said...

There was no surprise.
This was common knowledge from retailers all over Mall.

Anonymous said...

no I hate going to the mall!

Anonymous said...

Never!

Anonymous said...

Having step back in there every since they rejected Cracker Barrel coming to Centre @ Salisbury. They might as well shutdown the mall down. Their rent is unbelievable. Pier 1 is closing 450 stores so wouldn't surprise me if it closes too.

Anonymous said...

Nope, too expensive

Anonymous said...

Hell no, salespeople were snooty.

Anonymous said...

No...stayed out of there except maybe once every 2 years to see if anything changed. It didn't. Fake jacked up prices...another store trying to rip off consumers! Plus was instrumental in losing Cracker Barrel, which most people want to come here. I am not an online shopper...I believe in supporting local stores, but only the fair ones.

Anonymous said...

Nope. Poor quality of merchandise. Who wants leftovers from other locations?

Anonymous said...

I didn't shop there often, but now there's no upscale shopping in Salisbury. I don't want to travel 2 hrs each way to shop and it's hit or miss online when things don't fit and you have to send it back.
Boscov's can expand because they have cheaper prices and good sales so people will come in for that.

Anonymous said...

Nope! Too expensive for me! I’m more of a Amazon, Walmart and Target type

Anonymous said...

Rarely shopped there but still a shame.

Anonymous said...

Actually your wife is responsible not Amazon.

Anonymous said...

I shopped there
only place that have nice clothing for ladies and teens
WHat a shame
Feeling sorry for the employees now without jobs
But you know what...no one in this area wants to work anyway...the just want to live off the system.
Salisbury is not the same place I grew up in...can't wait to leave this area!

Anonymous said...

Not all Malls are dying. Only those that have not kept up with progress. For example, I live near University Town Center in Sarasota FL. Not only do they have the high end stores Saks 5th Ave but Kohl's, Target, Old Navy - seasonal kiosks, See's candies for the holidays. Target has a full scale grocery. All this at one Mall. Instead of spreading shops all over the place such as Salisbury with 1 grocery store in one location and a dress shop down the road and resturants down another road makes it not enjoyable to shop. Consolidate at one location and see what happens. Surprised Mayor Day isn't that progressive instead he is too busy erecting statues.

Anonymous said...

problem is such a low income area as salisbury can't support stores that carry higher end merchandise, hence the lack of any top stores!
Same for restaurants, most around here aren't worth anywhere near what they charge for their crappy menu selections! Same as it's always been leave salisbury for shopping, restaurants, and even an all around better cultural experience! lmao!
What else is new under the sun?

Anonymous said...

One of the only ones left

Anonymous said...

Now Cracker Barrel can come though they would be better off locating in Worc. county

Anonymous said...

Jake Day is doing great things for Salisbury!

Anonymous said...

So instead of investing resources and trying his best to keep stores open in Salisbury, he focuses on building a monument for a racist, black thug who murdered his boss!

You idiots elected a keeper!

Anonymous said...

I shopped there all the time. I still have a gift card that I am going to have to use up before they close. I bought a jean jacket for there before Christmas and forgot that I had the gift card.

Anonymous said...

Just wait till Boscov's closes and someone opens a new mall just 3 miles North in Tax-Free Delmar Delaware. Jake Day will still be trying to force people to ride their stupid bikes to work.

Did anyone notice how WBOC and WMDT kept saying that Macy's was closing after 29 years in Salisbury?? FAKE NEWS!! There was the Hecht Company at the Mall prior to Macy's.

Didn't the Hecht Company come from the old mall as well?

Anonymous said...

I only went in Macys to shop Mac. Mac has a super makeup artist, Dylan. He truly is a professional.

Sincerely
Mrs. Acacia

Writing on the wall says the Noose is getting tighter fight or flight before the taxes rise again..md is not the place to be. NO GOOD JOBS, SCHOOLS COURTS OR GOVERNMENT. Salisbury! Its a welfare paradise. If your a solid FAMILy, RETIRED OR a WORKING CLASS stiff, you get nothing..but if your an unwed baby moma with 5 baby daddies or illegal, you get it all free.

Oh yea i CANNOT WAIT TO SELL AND MOVE. MD democrats are the enemy of the working class

Anonymous said...

@3:29. Calling FAKE news on that is a stretch for something as irrelevant on the number of years a store has been in a mall. Oh and by the way the Hecht Company was originally downtown on the plaza. They then moved to the old mall. So quit reporting FAKE news.

Anonymous said...

I walked thru their store a time or two probably but too expensive for me

Anonymous said...

@5:18pm Hechts was never downtown. It debut in the Salisbury Mall on civic avenue.

Anonymous said...

We did shop there but noticed the amount of stock and number of employees had been dwindling over the last year or so. I wanted to buy something in the bedding department the last time we were there and searched the bedding, kitchen, and one clothing area before I could even find a register with an employee present.

Anonymous said...

I shop there all the time. An employee told me they are re-organizing the way they do business. Going to move more toward the Marshalls model. You can get some great deals down there right now. You need a Macy's CC.

Anonymous said...

I shopped Hecht's but not Macy's. Better sale prices at Boscov's.

Anonymous said...

They could open the largest Dollar General anywhere in its place. A win win for Salisbury.

Anonymous said...

Hey Joe, I just read a report from yahoo financial that Bed Bath and Beyond did not make their projected earnings for 2019. I wonder if they might be the next big chain store to leave Salisbury? I know they have been in financial trouble anyway and were hoping good sales during the Christmas season.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I loved Macy's shopped there monthly, for those of you that say it was too expensive, have a Macy's card and all purchases were 20 - 40% off. I will miss Macy's that was my go-to store.

Anonymous said...

I am sorry for people who will lose their jobs. I don’t shop there often. The city government should be thinking more about how beach travelers could be attracted to stop and shop on the North end. Turning Cracker Barrel away was foolish.

Anonymous said...

NO! Was never in there. Too pricey for my blood.

Anonymous said...

Rarely no more than twice I think. The ones in the big cities had better deals, and super cheap sales. We really need nice outlet stores like Rehoboth more than a mall, outlets have better deals and sales all the time. Plus there are so many stores there is something for everyone.

Anonymous said...

No. I'm a Boscov's fan.

Anonymous said...

Not once did I step foot in that store...not even once. It, like target, & bed bath & beyond, was a woman's store. By that, I mean those stores do not market to men. They market their wares to women. Not a place for men to shop. And now Macy's is closing. There will be few, if any, men that will miss it.

Outlets are fine, as long as you are satisfied with seconds, and not first rate products. The outlets sell products that do not meet the factories minimum quality control standards, products that don't move in retail stores, and discontinued styles. If you are happy with that, the outlets are happy to get rid of their inventory selling it to you. Their products are not "bargains" compared to first rate quality products sold at retail. You get what you pay for. There are no bargains.
