Wicomico School Board Vacancy Process Talks Stall

SALISBURY – After months of discussion on the process for filling a vacant seat on the school board, officials in Wicomico County last week agreed to hold off on any possible changes.

Last week, the Wicomico County Council met with members of the Wicomico County School Board Nominating Commission in a work session to continue a discussion on the procedure for filling a vacancy on the Wicomico County Board of Education.

“The purpose of the meeting today is to evaluate whether or not there are ways we can tweak it to make it a little more user-friendly as a whole for the committee,” Council President John Cannon said.

Conversations on changing the process began in September, after issues regarding the nomination and appointment process were brought to light.

Wicomico County School Board Nominating Commission.
WTF is that? seems only those who get approval from this socalled committee can run for the positions? appears it's not as open as those at the boe want us to believe!
Total BS and when I brought this up before I was called a liar!
when it comes to the local boe we know who the liars are!

This is utterly nonsense! It should not take a year to replace someone on the board. They are kicking the can down the road. If you have a tie then it is time to come up with NEW nominations and quit playing political games on who is on the board. They have had plenty of time to get this done. It is not about who is best qualified but who is connected to who politically!

Last sentence of 7:33am comment says it all.

School vouchers

The BOE tells the council what to do, so they're looking for a candidate that will soften the blow.

With everything that is going on in the schools, this is a BFD. People had better watch this closely and shine some light on it.

If you want to get the school situation cleaned up, this is where you need to work on it. You can be sure the teachers union and the progressives have a plan in operation. That is probably why it is taking so much time and manipulative energy.. they are determined to protect the status quo.

Joe is probably the only one who is giving you a window on the process.. watch closely and get involved.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! WTF are you talking about?? If you don't pay attention to local politics then please refrain from voting. This has nothing to do with allowing someone to "run for these positions." When you were called a liar I have a feeling that you were a liar. Stay off the blogs while you are at it.

The BOE has nothing to do with the nominating committee. Dumb Moron. They also don't tell the council what to do. Do you attend the meetings?

What is the BFD??

You are wrong about the Teachers Union. They want the unruly kids out of the classrooms. They want law and order back in the schools. They want Dr. Hanlin and most of the administration in the Central Office gone!

733 is dead on! This county's "leaders" have little to no interest in qualified people. They just want their cronies or someone they can control.

Then the teachers union should speak out about it!!! I’m a teacher and I have NEVER heard anything about the teacher’s union’s stance on those topics. They are silent and useless. After all, everyone knows the MSEA supported the discipline changes and many other policies that make our lives a living hell. So please tell us how you know all this since the rank and file hears NOTHING from the union except crying for more money.

The article appeared in a local newspaper. Joe was thoughtful enough to share it.

Want to fix this mess SCHOOL VOUCHERS. The BOE and teachers union are working against us. Nothing but a bunch of Corrupt tax sucking useful idiots

" The article appeared in a local newspaper.."

The Daily Times would be the LOCAL newspaper. I haven't seen anything there.

He died in February it is now December, we are less than 60 days from a year and the council now wants to discuss changing the process...one year is upon us fast idiot. If you were up on it you would know when or what the timeline is! So who is flapping their jaw in the wind now?

"..It is not about who is best qualified but who is connected to who politically!.."

Absolutely correct.

"..You are wrong about the Teachers Union. They want the unruly kids out of the classrooms. They want law and order back in the schools. They want Dr. Hanlin and most of the administration in the Central Office gone!.."

If this is what the teachers UNION wanted, I'd guess this is what we'd have.

How badly do you think they want it? They are represented on the Nominating Commission. Have they pushed for the right candidate(s)?

UMMM... He died and there was an appointment in the appropriate timeline. You have no clue what the hell you are talking about. That discussion has nothing to do with filling his slot, idiot!! Quit flapping you jaws and call you county reps if you want to know what is going on.

The people have spoken!
We are tired of the mismanagement of money and personnel in Wicomico County. BOE, WIC CO COUNSEL please listen to the people and stop the waist. It sounds like the schools and the sheriffs office is out of control. Please rain these departments in. I have spoken to many deputies that think this recent advertisement for YET ANOTHER SUPERVISOR posistion is boarder line MIS APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS. It's not needed. They wanna see more deputies in schools. I am also reaching out to each counsel member in regards to these issues. Stop wasting my tax dollars.

You must be a union official. How do you know this teacher hasn’t spoken up?? Isn’t that why teachers elect union officials and pay for the release time of the President? I’ve never seen the local union president in the press speaking out for teachers and the lack of discipline in our schools. I’ve never seen a system wide email from the president or any local union official on this topic. Although I am not the original poster of this comment, I am a teacher who also wonders why the union is silent on this serious issue. In fact, since the initiation of my membership to WCEA/MSEA/NEA, I haven’t witnessed the union speaking out on ANYTHING constructive to benefit Wicomico teachers. Where is the communication from the union? Very weak union leadership around here. Not worth the $$$$ at all.

Strike. Its worked in other areas. If they won't act don't go. All of you at the same time just stay home. Together the teachers hold the power. Only if you have the guts to act together. Otherwise you are stuck with the union which is not working well for you.

Like the salisbury mayor position, who in their right mind would want to be on the WBOE? Look at the public school system. Look at the violence.
