Search Warrant Leads to One Arrest and Another At Large-Laurel

Laurel-  The Delaware State Police have arrested 19-year-old Japree Ayers on multiple drug related charges and his mother, 42-year-old Rosalyn Ayers remains at large.
On October 24, 2019, members of the Delaware State Police Sussex Drug Unit (SDU), Sussex Governor’s Task Force (GTF) and Laurel Police Department concluded a drug dealing investigation involving Japree Ayers.  Japree Ayers had previously been indicted by the Sussex County Grand Jury and was actively wanted on two Rule 9 warrants for drug dealing.  Japree Ayers was observed leaving a residence located in the 500 block of Center Street, Laurel, and was taken into custody without incident.  Upon contact with Japree Ayers at this time, he was found to be in possession of approximately 3.22 grams of marijuana.
During the course of the investigation, the residence in the 500 block of Center Street was identified as the location in which Ayers stored his heroin.   A lawful search warrant was obtained for this residence and as a result the following was seized:
  • Approximately 977 bags of heroin (6.844 grams)
  • Approximately 99.34 grams of marijuana
  • Drug Paraphernalia
The residence is owned and occupied by Ayers’ mother Rosalyn Ayers.  There was also a juvenile present when officers arrived at the residence.
Japree Ayers was transported back to Troop 5 where he was charged with the following:
  • Possession with intent to deliver heroin in a tier 4 quantity
  • Possession of heroin in a tier 5 quantity
  • Endangering the welfare of a child
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
Japree Ayers was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $101,000.00 secured bond.
Rosalyn Ayers has an active warrant out of Troop 4 for the following:
  • Maintaining a drug property
  • Endangering the welfare of a child
  • Possession of marijuana
