The most recent FBI crime stats show that more people were killed in 2017 with hammers and clubs than were killed with rifles of any kind.
Breitbart News reported the most recent numbers–those for 2017–on September 26, 2018. Those figures showed that 467 people were killed with “blunt objects (hammers, clubs, etc.),” while 403 were killed with rifles.
And it must be noted that the category of “rifles” used by the FBI includes bolt action, pump action, single shot, and semi-automatic, as well as those the left describes as “assault weapons.” This means only a percentage of the 403 deaths attributed to “rifles” would have been carried out with an “assault weapon.” So the gap between the number of persons beaten to death with hammers and clubs verses those killed with “assault weapons” would be even greater than the gap between those who died in a hammer/club attack versus those who died being shot with “rifles” of any kind.
Breitbart News also reported that the 2017 crime figures showed 1,591 people were killed with “knives or cutting instruments” while 403 were killed with “rifles.”

Knives and blunt objects are more of a last minute, grab something to stab or hit someone kind of situation(often a crime of opportunity or anger). These kinds of weapons are everywhere and easily obtained.
That's why there are high numbers of these types of murders.
High capacity rifles kill many people at once and it takes planning and the intention of mass murder. Guns are not as easily obtained and sometimes are stolen from the legal owner. The number of instances is less, but a higher number of victims each time.
Why can't they seem to understand the rifle they are referring to is NOT an assault rifle...smh. Let them call it the mean black rifle rifle..wait...can't do that. That's racist! Okay..just mean bad rifle. smh...society has lost their way...
If a thug has it in his/hers mind to kill the weapon doesn't matter gun, knives, baseball bat they'll use whatever they can. Guns don't kill people do!
So those deaths aren't as tragic? Got it 1241. Or maybe you just haven't figured out how to exploit them to your political advantage yet...
