A baby girl on board a cruise ship docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico died Sunday after she reportedly slipped from her grandfather’s grip and tumbled out an open window.
The incident, which occurred on the Royal Caribbean ship, Freedom of the Seas, was confirmed on Twitter by the Department of Public Safety of Puerto Rico and by Anthony Maceira, Puerto Rico’s Secretary for Public Affairs.
“Unfortunately the news of an accident [involving] a baby on a cruise is true,” Maceira wrote, referring to the incident as “a real tragedy.” “The [Department of Public Safety] is working the issue with the seriousness and sensitivity required.”
A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean also confirmed the incident in a statement to PEOPLE.

Terrible tragedy. As a grandpa I feel terrible for the entire family; deepest sympathies.
The story is morphing. The family now says the tot FELL out an open window in a play area, and the grandfather was watching her at the time. Nothing about him "dangling" her out the window and her "slipping" from his grasp. We'll never know the truth, but no matter what the real story is, GrandPa has a heavy burden to live with (if he can).
It is so sad. Blaming the cruise line. I understand why - the only way to live with it is to blame it on someone. Maybe it was but only Grandpa knows and he has a lot to live with. Tragedy.
That would be impossible. You have never been on a cruise ship. The picture your referring to has nothing to do with this and wasn’t the same person, family or cruise ship. It’s click bait.
