A Viewer Writes.......The money pit folked festival and Baltimore

The bigger take away is that he had to go begging for money in Baltimore for the folk festival the city could not afford? I give him credit for going out and finding money but this just shows you that the city can not financially support this event on its own.

Local businesses could not or would not step up to the plate and donate so he is pandering in Baltimore?
A fundraiser in Baltimore for a festival here? How does that make any sense?

Just how are they going to "fundraise" from a baseball game?
Walk around with buckets like they did at the festival?

He invites us to join in him Baltimore to fundraise?

How much is this costing the city taxpayers?
Why wasn't this party held at the shorebird stadium?
Now you know why County Council wants to play ball and give Jake money.

SALISBURY, Md.- The National Folk Festival on Friday announced the Baltimore Orioles as a 2019 stage sponsor for the 79th National Folk Festival, which returns to downtown Salisbury, Sept. 6-8.
“The City of Salisbury is overwhelmed with excitement to welcome the Baltimore Orioles as a major sponsor of the National Folk Festival,” said Salisbury Mayor Jake Day. “We invite our community to join us in celebrating during an event at Oriole Park at Camden Yards this June.”
The 79th National Folk Festival in 2019 marks the second year of the event’s three-year residency in Salisbury. More than 350 artists—musicians,  dancers, storytellers, and craftspeople—will take part in the National Folk Festival, with more than 35 different musical groups performing on seven outdoor stages throughout downtown Salisbury.

Will city workers be forced to work this again?

1218-I thought city workers were forced to volunteer, and weren't paid?

My guess is that while gaining the O's support he also wanted to let people know in another area that we are having this festival. So it doesnt turn out to be the pile of garbage that is being predicted.

Like most everyone I know hopes. Maybe it will pour rain that weekend, again, like last year.

Come on JAKE people just aren't that interested in "FOLK MUSIC" or the greatest OBOE PLAYER in the world, LMFAO. IDIOT!!

Interesting math.

350 artist musicians? A wild guess I presume since we are only on year 2. Wonder if the food truck counts as an artist.

35 musicians on seven stages? Honestly I do not recall 7 stages last year and the same performers played multiple times during the weekend.

Didn't he say last year that people follow the festival and there would be 100K+ attendees? What happened to all those people? Aren't they coming this year.

Couldn't he have just purchased a couple of billboards?

Lora Bottinelli, executive director of the National Council for the Traditional Arts. - She talked Jake into this, she used to be at the Ward Museum. I saw an article where she proposed this to Jake because they didn't have anywhere to go.

Where are the financials? Has anyone seen any financials published on this from last year? What are they hiding?

As part of the Orioles’ sponsorship, the organization will host a combination of events in support of the National Folk Festival at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on June 26, 2019. - How are events at Orioles stadium going to bring in money for the folked festival?

I honestly wonder if the millions could have been used for a better purpose.

I don't wish it will rain.
But I don't see how we are going to make the money he claims it will since there is no direct revenue stream to the city.

Taxpayers are footing the bill, but how exactly are they getting their money back?

The Orioles will do anything to get people to the stadium. Good luck with this one.

Who even goes to crime city anymore?

Thanks for the warning. I will try to avoid that part of town so I won't be caught in traffic congestion again like last year!

They should do it on June 11th. That is Orioles gay pride night.

Face it DAY you're way in over your head and keep grabbing at straws to bail your ass out

I'm DONE with anything Salisbury does in the future...Gay Pride did me in. Jake is ruining our dear city.

I went downtown today to court to pick up some papers for a friend who doesn't drive. There were all kinds of front end loaders going up and down the street all without any slow moving vehicle placards.Call OSHA they will be there in a heartbeat. As a former safety director I know this is illegal. If the vehicle hits someone there will be another name on the George & Lynch logo.

Do tell us, who even goes downtown for anything, unless you're going to see an attorney or going to the courthouse.

Rt 50 & Rt 13 will be so jammed with all the cyclists coming to get Folked.

@744 There are some nice hangouts downtown at night. Roadie Joes is popular.

The Orioles are the second worst in attendance this year only to Miami. Many nights oriole attendance is less than 8000 and as low as 6500 (new low attendance record).
Borderline a Shorebirds sell out.
Plus every paying adult gets 2 free tickets to kids 9 years or younger. Orioles may need the folk festival to get people to go to games. They aren't going for the baseball.
Not many people will see this advertising for the folk joke.

@1:15 that's a joke!! Roadie Joe's turns into a thug hangout along with the entire downtown after 10-11 at night

Why would you want that? It was a lot of fun. I haven’t talked to anyone who didn’t have a good time. Wouldn’t you want a success story for the city that you live in/near? Why would you wish failure upon your own community?

Because I resent the City's use of tax dollars to fund ghetto events and homosexual exploitation.

Thank you

Thank you, 12:00 PM! I resent taxpayer money being spent on this garbage when there are bigger issues that should be addressed.

I can't wait to see what type of crowds it draws this year with Jake Day's desperation to advertise in the Baltimore area communities. Day isn't going to stop until he creates a mass catastrophe on the streets of Salisbury catering to all his progressive ghetto following
