Others have argued that nonessential purchases like “avocado toast” and fancy coffee drinks are the real culprits, primarily because they are relatively small purchases that add up quickly.

Not to mention these youngsters are lacking in one very crucial life necessity...work ethic.
There are exceptions. My grand daughter got a full scholarship and breezed through in three years working at the same time to pay for her apartment and living expenses. Her parents and I helped her out in pinches but she pulled it off and her entry level job started at 62K. She is a delight and we are all very proud of and in awe of her determination and fortitude. Not all the kids are lost.
