PARIS, Île-de-France —A fire has been reported at the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France.
Heavy dark smoke could be seen billowing from the cathedral.
CNN reporter Melissa Bell reports that the fire appears to be coming from inside the cathedral.
"This is what tourists come to see when they come to Paris," Bell said.

What a terrible tragedy. I certainly cherish the memories of my two visits to this beautiful cathedral. Very sad for the people of France.

It cannot be replaced. It took 800 years to carve out all the wood that went into that cathedral. And now it is reduced to ashes. It's a real shame. Greater care should have been taken during the remodeling that was taking place, but what is gone, is gone. I had visited that great cathedral when I was in Europe, and it was literally an Awesome experience. All those gifted craftsmen's work, lifetimes spent creating their art, all burned up in a few hours. Paris and France have suffered an immense loss.

It will be rebuilt as with all fires some things cannot be replaced but the funding for the project of rebuilding is underway. Fires have destroyed many historic landmarks all over the world some by arson some lighting, accidents etc.. As for extremist muslims look at attacks around the world. Just this weekend Sri Lanka had over 300 dead and another 500 wounded. Innocent women and children killed for absolutely no reason. Christians and Christian places of worship destroyed in Isis held areas. Let us not forget Christian women children brutally raped by these same Muslims. If it is a holy war they want we should give it to them and show them no mercy. Eye for an eye. Isis is full of cowards who leave bombs in places that kill innocent women and children.
