Impeachment talk at library silenced over safety concerns

Safety concerns have forced the cancellation of a lecture on impeachment at the Worcester County Library in Berlin that was originally scheduled this Wednesday.

The program, part of a series on the U.S. Constitution presented by Howard Sribnick, drew the ire of some right-wing groups on social media, apparently prompting the canceling.

Library Director Jennifer Ranck said the program was planned in response to public interest generated during a series on the constitution held last fall.

“I think the topic of impeachment came up – because it’s in the Constitution – and it was just sort of an offshoot of that program,” she said. “It was intended to be an educational event. We asked Howard to teach the [one-session] class and I think people misrepresented the intent of the program.”

They should be more concerned about the socialist movement within the Democrat party.

Safety concerns??? BS. They got called out, that's all.

Yea, right

Jennifer and the Worcester County Democrats got caught trying to misuse taxpayers' property for partisan political purposes and then spun their story to demonize American citizens who respect The Constitution.

I am not buying it. It seems obvious what the "intent" was, but it is easier to blame it on others

They knew what they were doing. Her explanation revealed so. Partisan politics have no place in non-profit institutions. They were planning to fuel the fire to support the dems talking points being spewed out of the mounts of Waters and the like.

maybe they should have an informative session about the House of Reps just voting to allow illegal aliens to vote. Doesn't that bother anyone else?

Could the class have been named “Highlights of the Constitution” or such, since education is supposed to be a good thing. Indicating it was on “Impeachment” alone, especially during these hostile times, could be construed as confrontational, and rightfully so. In regards to any threats on social media and such, I am convinced people place too much credence in same. Get on with life should be a good motto.

The democrats have no morals at all. They will engage in any activity in order to stop Trumph. They refuse to admit that he is doing a great job as president. I would be ashamed and embarrassed to admit that I was a democrat, they have no shame, just look at congress, they are a joke. Local dems spew the same garbage that they hear on the fake news stations. It's really sad that they are so stupid.

I agree with some of those posting above that think this was an attempt to push a leftist agenda, but at the same time, it is within the realm of the first amendment.

I don't care for the idea of publicly-paid employees promoting a political agenda, and I think the excuse of 'safety issues' was bogus.. they got caught and called out, and tried to villify the people who objected to what they tried to do. We all know there was no safety issue, and it's very dishonest to try to claim there was.

The violence we've seen in recent days was generated by liberal leftists, not by conservatives.

It's all about FREE SPEECH in publicly funded spaces and campus's until it's not what you want to hear. LOL. Rage on !!!

Jenifer and Alice. Liberals doing liberals work with taxpayer money. Par for the course in the Md. Library system. They even tout their hatred with this type of propaganda regularly.

Just because you support Trump does not mean you should not educate yourselves on the topic of impeachment. Knowledge is power.

The thing that most voters don't get about Democracy is after their binary vote for their candidate issues and supposed platform is no longer in their hands or of their say. It's kind of like religion. They are left to just root for their team and tithe and obey and pray for the best. Too bad it's not to the bank.

Know Sribnick for years. Very militant far left democrat and can be nasty if you disagree with his politics. Good decision to close down program.

I think the intent of the event was to stir up bad feelings against Trump. I think Jennifer Ranck is lying.

The protest was probably more about the speaker than the topic and how he might use the opportunity to promote the impeachment of the sitting President.

It wasn’t safety, it means you got caught doing something illegal and stopped it , libraries are supposed to be non political, you relying on taxpayers money should be ashamed. I will never enter your doors, need to clean house, Starr fresh!

She is - they pushed this thing out and there was a huge backlash - big shocker for them as they believe that there are a lot of people that feel the way they do - in the immortal words of Ricky Ricardo, “Jennifer, you’ve got some ‘splainin to do!”

I don't understand why anyone would want to protest against a presentation providing factual information. It seems that some minority of people made assumptions about what this program was about, and went ballistic, rather than first looking into it. There is a lot of fear and distrust where it is not necessary. We are all Americans, and have more in common, and more shared concerns, than what we disagree on. Would be nice if we could return to more civil discourse, instead of name-calling, blaming and even threatening people we disagree with.
