General Assembly overrides governor's veto of $15 minimum wage bill

ANNAPOLIS, Md. —The Maryland General Assembly voted Thursday to override the governor's veto of the $15 minimum wage bill.

The measure would have raised Maryland's minimum wage to $15 by 2025. Democrats pushed for the increase, arguing workers deserve a living wage.

Gov. Larry Hogan vetoed the bill Wednesday, saying the measure would cost more than 99,000 jobs and "hurt Maryland's competitiveness and push small businesses out of the state."

Gubernatorial spokesman Michael Ricci released a statement, saying, "We are obviously disappointed that the Legislature completely ignored the governor's reasonable compromise proposal to protect jobs and small businesses. So much for olive branches."

Sounds like if you currently earn 15/hour you will be getting a 20% raise soon over the next couple of years...

2:55 No your not, becasue they will go robotic soon... That is how stupid you all are, to think capitalism won't find a way to make money... All McD's will soon have screens to order food like wawa and rofo, and once that one burger flipping robot is sold, you all will lose your job, becasue they will have robots taking the order, and making the order... Oh and wait until most places don't want to pay you this wage and you lose your job like what is happening in all of the other paces that has a 15 dollar wage hike... They simple lost their job... Way to go... Clap clap clap... Maybe one day you will learn, but my guess is not until hell freezes over and well hell is hot so that won't happen...

Why folks keep drinking that tainted Donkey Kool-Aid is beyond me. Capitalism does NOT include government interference with wages. Private industry will not allow this and its already started with kiosks versus paying a human the mandatory $15 an hr.

@5:05 Then you'll just pay for the welfare from the army of unemployed.

Take your businesses to China and you can exploit all the workers you care too. Here in the States the people can enact whatever laws they choose to with enough political support and just as minimum wage increases are coming so to will making robotic workers illegal. That is objective reality. Deal with it.
