SALISBURY – Officials in Wicomico County this week approved a $489,000 loan to keep a county-owned nursing home operating through the remainder of the fiscal year.
On Tuesday, the Wicomico County Council voted to approve a loan in the amount of $489,320 to the Wicomico Nursing Home. The loan will provide for projected operating expenses at the facility through June 30, 2019.
Last month, representatives with the Wicomico Nursing Home – a county enterprise fund – came before the council seeking an operating loan after it was learned that low occupancy, personnel costs and write offs of bad debt had contributed to financial woes at the facility.
Jim Crisp of Gross, Mendelsohn and Associates told the council, for example, that he expected the nursing home to write off $36,000 in bad debt in the current fiscal year and noted that the facility would need a census of roughly 80 residents and $170,000 in salary cuts to break even.

Sounds like to me there is major problems in Management. Also, a very poor Budget Dept. The County should be doing a forensic audit and change of Management personnel and Budget Department personnel.
4:34 PM I applied for an office position and interviewed for it. They have a revolving door and a bunch of youngin' running the show. The person who would have been my boss was new and didn't have a clue. Didn't even know how to interview. I ran away.
For the service staff, it is a tough job. The place is old and the services they provide are a minimum. I had witnessed the staff being rude and condescending to my friend who was there.
You can thank the Democrats and their healthcare scam for the write offs
An audit is due.

Salisbury is a poor area,some senior centers can't get a dollar for meals from seniors.

It went downhill after Mary Schwartz was forced out on retirement. The administrator after her and her "click" of friends have destroyed that facility. Sad part is the good employees as well as the residents have suffered. The county won't be shocked with what they find, they were warned of what was going on last year. The county is well aware of the condition of that facility and how it was being run. Hopefully they sell it to someone who actually cares.
