North Carolina enacts voter ID law, overriding Dem governor's veto

North Carolina's Republican-led legislature enacted a new voter ID law on Wednesday, overriding Gov. Roy Cooper’s (D) veto from last week.

Under the new law, voters will be asked for photo identification when they go to the polls starting next year, local outlet the News & Observer reported. Cooper last week vetoed the measure, saying it served to "suppress the rights of minority, poor and elderly voters."

A nonprofit group, the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, after the override vote on Wednesday filed a lawsuit challenging the voter ID law, and the state's NAACP president said it would announce a lawsuit on Thursday, according to the News & Observer.

As long as you still need an ID to use food stamps, drive a car, and withdraw money at a bank - they don't have a leg to stand on!

Considering the rampant voter fraud recently.....

Hallelujah and pass the biscuits! Finally, a house that listens to its people and has the cajones to do what the voting majority clearly said it wanted. Thanks to them and the NC voters, who are first to fight in this battle for real voting justice.

finally! has nothing to do with "suppress the rights of minority, poor and elderly voters." If that was the case the dems would have allowed felons to vote. That is the one that suppress minorities.

Why don't these people sue the state for requiring a drivers license. Or sue because a social security number is required??? ID card to vote is a grand idea!
These people who think poor people are so uneducated they wont know know how or where to get the ID card HOW do they know where to sign up for food stamps etc.????

Every state should pass this it would enable Americans who actually pay taxes and are citizens and have to abide by the law to be the only ones voting.

Doesn't every 'minority, poor and elderly person' need ID to cash a check?
The only reason the Dems are AGAINST it is so they can perpetuate voter fraud. That's the ONLY reason.
