Subject: Industry Group Pledges $100,000 for Program Aimed at Recruiting New Shooters

The firearms industry's trade group announced this month it established a new $100,000 grant program to help gun ranges introduce new people to gun ownership.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) said the new grant would be used by ranges across the country involved in their First Shots program. The group said the program is designed to provide "a safe, fun and educational introduction experience for people new to firearms." It said First Shots events also help develop ties to a range's local community and bring in new customers.

NSSF describes First Shot events as a place where first-time shooters can receive a "comprehensive introduction to shooting by qualified range operators and instructors that includes firearm safety, local ownership requirements, shooting fundamentals, hands-on instruction and how and where to continue." The curriculum for the events was developed by the NSSF but is administered by local ranges in states across the country. The industry group said the program has introduced thousands of beginners to the shooting sports.

Ranges can apply for grants of up to $2,500 to help defray the costs of holding and marketing First Shots events. The grants can also be used to pay for equipment purchases made for the event.

Good for NSSF. Having grown up competing in target shooting I found out and still know that "Shooting isn't Killing"

Northwest Woodsman: Grew up in Snow Hill and have been carrying and shooting both as a sport and as a profession since I was 13years old. My parents gave me a single shot bolt action Stevens .22 rifle for Christmas. Soon graduated to a Winchester semiautomatic tube fed .22 that is still in my gunrack.

Is there a gun range near Salisbury? Major cities have indoor gun ranges. Perhaps someone might consider this as a new business. In Phoenix I paid $200.00 a year in membership and all ammo was required to be purchased at the front desk and the ammo prices were competitive to other retail stores.

2:59 No comrade, no public gun range in Slumsbury, you are in a strange country here. The Socialist Republic of Maryland, where gun ownership is frowned on and the right to carry for self defense is not allowed.

You can drink and drive all you want though, many have several DUI convictions and still drive.
The big question is who is deadlier, a guy drunk behind a 4000 pound missile capable of doing 120 mph, or a good guy with a 9mm under his shirt?

There are several shooting facilities in the area. Salisbury Gun Club, Synapuxent Rod & Gun club also, Worcester county has a first class range in Newark. There are a few more around here. Go to any shooters supply store and inquire.

Everyone seems to be avoiding the conceal carry guy who was shot in a mall the other day.Duh,I wonder why? Expect more good intentioned people with a gun to get shot by police. When they arrive on the scene police aren't mystics or mind readers,so if by the time they arrive the conceal carry person still has a weapon in their hand oh well.I knew it was only a matter of time....
