Rep. Harris Commends President Trump for Signing the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act into Law

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01) made the following statement commending President Donald Trump’s signing H.R. 6 into law, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act, and the Administration’s ongoing efforts to combat the opioid epidemic:

“I commend President Trump for signing into law the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act. As a physician, I know all too well that substance abuse, especially opioid abuse, is an extremely harmful and dangerous illness. Heeding Surgeon General Adam’s advice, as I travel across Maryland’s 1st District, I personally carry opioid reversal agents everywhere I go.

This law will strengthen substance abuse prevention, treatment, and recovery initiatives, and help protect our communities from prescription opioids, heroin, and illicit synthetic drugs like fentanyl. The fight against opioid addiction and substance abuse is long and tough, but with the president signing this bill into law, we are making real progress toward combating the epidemic.”
