Vehicle Pursuit Leads to Multiple Charges-Blades

Blades – The Delaware State Police arrested a Laurel man after he led Troopers on a pursuit and resisted arrest.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at approximately 3:12 p.m. when a trooper witnessed a gray four door sedan with a Maryland registration traveling northbound on Seaford Road north of Easter Lane, Blades. The vehicle crossed a double solid yellow center line into the path of a vehicle traveling southbound. The vehicle had to swerve to avoid being struck by the suspect vehicle. As the trooper activated the emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle, the operator accelerated and a pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle recklessly sped away and passed other vehicles on the right shoulder of the road. The suspect vehicle continued and turned onto north Seaford Road into the town limits of Blades and then turn right onto East 6th Street at a high rate of speed. The vehicle entered into the Little Meadows Development and drove to a dead-end road at Summit Drive and fled on foot through a wooded area.

Multiple units from the Delaware State Police, Seaford Police Department and the Bridgeville Police Department along with DSP Aviation Unit responded to assist in the search for the suspect. The suspect, described as a black male wearing a white tank t-shirt and dark shorts, was observed in a wooded area and was given verbal commands which he complied with and was arrested without further incident.

The driver, identified as Lenear B. Kellam 18 of Laurel, was searched which revealed four bundles (41 bags) of heroin in his pocket. A computer check revealed Kellam did not have a driver's license, was wanted out of Sussex County Superior Court for Violation of Probation on $9,000.00 cash bond and the vehicle was reported stolen out of Maryland.

Kellam was transported to Troop 5 where he was charged with:
Manufactures, delivers, or PWID a controlled substance w/ an aggravating factor
Receiving Stolen Property Value Over $1500
Disregarding a Police Officer Signal
Resisting Arrest
Possession of Drug Paraph Not Related to Personal Use Qty Marijuana or Person
Aggressive Driving
Reckless Driving
Driving Without a Valid License
Failed to remain within a single lane
Overtaking/passing on the right, except as permitted by law, is unlawful
Driving Vehicle at Unreasonable or Imprudent Speed
Failure when Moving Right, Left or Turning to Signal Continuously Not < 300 fe

Kellam was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $28,050.00 cash bond.
